Anyone else find short forms a bit confusing?

I doubt that most people will want to post the whole name...plus if you do not know what the letters mean..all you have to do is ask someone what it means..:)

Oh and HISTA= Honey I Shrunk The Audience

I kinda prefer it for attractions MILF and HISTA are so much easier than typing the full names, plus they get used alot so after a few weeks on the boards you kinda know or can work them out.

But as I stay in our home off site whenever we visit Mr Mouse, im not up to scratch on my resorts, so the resort accronyms throw me off so much.

Now for most attractions i even refer to them as the accronyms, ill say things like "so who's going on ToT", and "hey MiLF has a short wait time" as in i say the word tot, i dont walk around going t o t, etc.

Anyway:ROFLOL:

I prefer either the full name (the first time it is used in a post) or a slightly abbreviated form of it. For example, instead of Monsters. Inc. Laugh Floor, just saying Monsters, Inc. is sufficient. Or why not Honey, I Shrunk... for, well, you know (even just Honey... would work). I'm personally not a fan of turning everything into an acronym because of the potential confusion it can cause.

I prefer the abbreviated forms. Here's why:

TYPING can hurt your hands. This is a way to save some keystrokes. Some people have arthritis or carpal tunnel or are well on their way to it because they type all day. THINKING, on the other hand, never hurt anyone's brain.

I know it takes time to catch on, but there are some good lists of abbreviations noted in this thread, and also you will get used to it. Usually you can tell what's being spoken of from the context. If not, then it doesn't matter. Insert "Attraction" when reading the abbreviation, and it will usually make as much sense as if the attraction were named.

As someone with carpal tunnel, I still would rather type out the whole name...at least the first time. I prefer someone to understand my meaning or reference right away, rather than make them work at it and potentially decide I'm referring to something I'm not (ie. the Splash Mountain/Space Mountain dilemma). Also, the abbreviations around here are for more than just attractions. If I assume ASR is some kind of attraction, then I'll undoubtedly be confused.
It's just my opinion, but the LOL, KFC society we now live in strikes me as amazingly lazy. In some cases we abbreviate things like "thru" that don't take many more letters to spell out. I'm not trying to insult anyone who prefers to type that way, I'm simply saying we're not taking someone else's comfort into consideration before our own. Yes, SM is easier for me, but is it easier for the millions of others out there? Language is a beautiful thing. Let's not Jim Hill it completely...

I've never really cared whether people say, MiLF, Monsters Inc., or type the whole thing out. I guess you could say I'm not very fussy!

Usually when I post, I first type out the abbreviation and then when I look over it, I type out the whole thing- on my own posts I'm very picky. I always triple check my spelling and grammer (grammar, just kidding) are right!
