Anyone else find short forms a bit confusing?

O.K....I consider myself to be a pretty smart girl, and I'm definitely a big Disney fan, so please tell me I'm not alone in sometimes (o.k. often) being confused by the many short forms that people use for rides, attractions, restaurants, etc. Sometimes I truly have to think about the letters for a minute and figure out what the poster is talking about. Could we maybe just use the real words in the beginning and then shorten them, for those of us who are "short form challenged"? :animwink:

I think part of it is a message board thing. You find abbreviations all over every message board, you just have to get used to it. I know most of my other boards have a master list posted somewhere. I'm not sure if there is one here or not.

Most of us that use those abbreviations have been here quite a while; we probably DID start out using the "long form" of the names of rides and attractions, but eventually switched to just initials.

Hang in there - you'll catch right on. In general, just think of the first letter of each word in the name (ToT - Tower of Terror; IASW - It's a Small World, etc.)

The third post in this thread has a pretty extensive list of abbreviations. The only ones that still confuse me are SM (space mountain) and SM (Splash Mountain.) It's hard to pick up which one people are talking about sometimes.

I'm with you on this one. Most of us are typing on full size keyboards, not cell phones.
I prefer to make it easier on the reader. Maybe I'll even spellcheck.

It's pretty confusing but you get used to it - it's as much about the context as the actual acronym.

My wife is a big a Disney geek as I am but when she see's me on the boards she constantly asks "SSE? Whats that?"

The one that threw me for a loop for the longest time was DD/DH/DS -- turns out it stands for "Dear/Darling Daughter/Husband/Son"

Originally thought it meant Disney Daughter/Husband/Son but that didn't make any sense at all:shrug:
