Anyone Else a Photopass Model?

Last October some friends of ours went to MNSSHP and took about 250 Photopass photos. After they got back, a woman from Disney e-mailed them and asked if they'd sign a model release and allow Disney to use their photos in marketing material. In exchange, they got 2 free Photopass CDs.

We just went to WDW with them 3 weeks ago, and used their Photopass account to store all of our photos. Today, that same woman e-mailed them again and said she noticed that there were 2 more of us in their photos (this time with Christmas decor up), and she asked if she could have our contact info to give us the same offer in exchange for 2 free PhotoPass CDs.

What is this all about? What "marketing" is this for? Is it for the tons of sample pics on the PhotoPass website? I'm sure they're not for other Disney marketing, since everything they do uses models and lots of prep and setup.

And, has anyone else received this offer?

Perhaps your group is super photogenic...

or maybe they're doing something they shouldn't and the lawsuits are about to start flying!

Well, our two wives might be photogenic, but my friend and I aren't!

Well, if they're getting model releases, it seems legit. When she emails me I'm going to ask her what it's about.

I've been asked before, signed the release forms, and didn't get anything in return, nor have I ever seen the photo used in ads. (Unless anyone has seen a photo of some crazy kids at MNSSHP dressed as mad hatter, march hare and aurora.)..:lookaroun

Perhaps these pictures are to go into some sort of archive and they need releases just in case they want to do something with them in the future.

1) It actually is a real Disney person. It's a woman. I won't reveal her name on here, but her email address is firstname.lastname@disney.com. Her mailing address is Disney Photo Imaging, 200 Animation Way, LBV, FL 32830

2) Our friends received their 2 PhotoPass CD vouchers and we actually used one of them to get our CD from our Jan trip. We got it.

3) When she emails me, I'll find out what it's all for

Your probably being used in an overseas ad campaign.

Did you see the Friends episode where Joey's photo gets used in social disease ads? :ROFLOL: Let's hope for the best.

Yeah, that thought does open up a whole new train of thought for a potential international spoof marketing campaign:

"Thank you for considering a trip to Walt Disney World. As an international traveller, you'll find that WDW caters to diversity of all types. For example, take a look at this family - Disney even lets them in!"

Update

I got the model releases today and my wife and I sent them back in. I asked what they may use our photos for and here was her response:

"
Regarding how the photos are used... we use photos like yours in several ways. They could be the photo on products on the website or in the introduction when you first log in or on the ad-promotion tiles. We also display photos in our view / camera centers either in the windows or in frames on the counters as well as on actual product (like a photomug) that might be on display. We have marketing flyers that are used both internally and externally as informational media that will feature products with photos. If I see that your photos are pulled for something, I'll be happy to let you know. However, you might see yourselves before I do! If that happens, please send me a note and I'll see if I can send a photo copy to you."

So, yes, it's legit. And again, it came from Disney Photo Imaging.

Exciting :sohappy:

Cool...we have a (future) celebrity in the house.

Yeah, and what's really sad is that of all the people that use photopass, they picked US! You can see one of the ones from January as my avatar. I am, by no means, photogenic.

They must be hard up for "real, everyday" people or something!
