Anyone cashed in their Disney VISA reward Dollars?

Here's my specific situation.

I think I have $40 in dollars coming. Our next family vacation will be to WDW, but my DS is going on a band trip to DL and will need money for meals in the park.

My impression is that you don't get Disney Dollars, but some kind of gift card deal redeemable only at the place you designate (Disney Store, WDW, DL, etc.).

So--if DS goes with $40 in DL dollars, and he spends $32, have I "lost" $8? Can those be turned into WDW dollars?

Has anyone done this, and how exactly does it work?

That sure seems to be the way I read their terms and agreement. However, I think it's unlikely he wouldn't spend $40, but I could be mistaken!

Here's what it says on their website...

Disney Dream Reward DollarsSM will accrue only when your Disney credit card account is in good standing. The Disney Dream Reward DollarsSM will have to be transferred to a designated card or certificate before they can be redeemed. Redemption is allowed only for designated Disney merchandise or services at participating Disney locations.

Sorry - I know I haven't given you any more informaiton than you already had or assumed. But heck...I can't even GET a Disney Visa card

I think it works like a regular gift card. You go the site and tell them you want your points on a Disney gift card and they send it to you via. US Postal. But if I am wrong let me know I have 150 points waiting that I still need to convert.

When I signed up for the Visa, I (mistakenly) thought that the points were redeemable for Disney Dollars, which I thought was just keen.

The problem with a gift card is the leftover dollars, which would be lost, since I cannot imagine we would ever be in DL again. It would be nice to be able to convert them to a WDW card, but that would create a bookkeeping nightmare, which could have been avoided in the first place by just giving us the Disney Dollars to begin with.

OK--the kid gets $20 and some cash. (Actually, we don't have the final itinerary yet, so that may change.) I just hate being locked into one Disney location.

^^^^^^
sorry for the rant

Anyway, if anyone has first hand experience, please let us know.

I have exchanged my reward points for dream reward dollars. We are not going to WDW til next week, so I haven't been able to use any yet.

But as for what you get....

~they are issued in $10 increments....
~it is a certificate that has WDW Dream Reward Dollars, the
expiration date, 10 reward dollars, and the serial # on the
front....
~on the back it has the terms and conditions, and it says it can
be used for select food, merchandise, lodging, etc at WDW and
DCL. So I'd say you can only use WDW ones at WDW and DL
ones at DL...

One thing that pertains to your situation.... on the sleeve they come in, it says they can be used for partial amounts of pruchases. So you might not be able to get $ back or use it if the total of a bill is less than $10. It may not be worthwhile to use for the band trip, since you child might have to spend $10+ each time to use them.

When are you going? We will be back on the 21st, so I can post how it turned out when we get back. I also plan on trying to use/asking about using them on a purchase of less than $10.

I thought they would be like a gift card (WalMart, Target, Home Depot) that sort of thing. I'm going to have to look at this again.

Thanks DVCgirl49 for that photo.

I see lots of red flags on that certificate.

"select merchanside, recreation, food, etc..."
don't like the sound of that. What if there are only a handful of places they can be redeemed?

"no cash will be returned"
actually, I figured that, but was hoping for Disney Dollars at least

"have no cash or monetary value"
yup, they're looking more and more worthless to me

Well, Disney Visa, it's been fun, and it's been real, but it hasn't been real fun. I'm returning to my first love, Discover card.

Sorry to be so down. I was looking forward to using these for DS's band trip. Looks like they will be more trouble than they are worth for him.

The redeemable-anywhere cash that Discover gives me is lookin' mighty fine..........

To me, I get the feeling that "select locations" would be anything but ODV carts, or maybe not at the resorts, or maybe only sit-down restaurants. It may be worth a phone call to either WDW or the Disney Visa folks.

DVCGirl, how long did it take for the certificates to come? We're going in mid-August and if it takes 6-8 weeks then we may not be getting them for this trip.

I ordered them online on June 26th, and it said at that time that they wouldn't be processed til July 1st, and an estimated delivery date of July 14th. I was very nervous about this as we are leaving on the 14th, but they were waiting in the mailbox on July 3rd. So total was 8 days, but they had estimated it to be 18 days!

I agree with Bagheera. I think it will be a lot more free to Disney locations than you are thinking. I see them being a little strict, but not that strict. I would think if your bill totaled $11, use a $10 certificate and pay the dollar. I have $23 saved up, I'm anxious to hear the answers to this, but I am sticking with my Disney Visa. :)

Plus you could convert some to Disney Store and some to Disneyland, although I don't see how you wouldn't be able to spend $40 at one meal at DL or WDW.

Wow--that would be perfect. But I'm sure that is somehow forbidden.

I'm trying to stay positive here, but I'm just not liking this program very much. The "reward" is just too restrictive and hard to redeem.

Don't jump ship just yet.. Yes you must redeam in $10 amounts and for the spacific location you are going to spend them.such as DL. As for restrictions, I was told that they are useable just about everywhere in WDW and the restrictions are generally so they can change the rules if they like. but yes if it cost $9 and you have a $10 coupon..wait untill you have a few purchases and use them then.

We are going in October so I just requested my $80 in reward dollars for Disney World. Here's my info:
They said six weeks to process, but they came within 10 days.
They are issued in $10 increments. You will not get cash back if you spend less then $10. This shouldn't be too hard. It's not like I have to spend $80 at once.
Also, if you're worried about not spending all at Disney, don't redeem them all for Disney World. For example, I could have gotten $40 for the World and left the rest for the Disney Store, or future redemption.
I haven't been yet so I don't know which specific stores take them. If you're worried, buy your tickets with them. They do work for Disney tickets, according to their directions, and certainly you could easily spend them all there.
I think they're great! I can't imagine having a hard time spending $10 somewhere.
Oh, and by the way, they are super cute. Which is of course very important!

We Just got back and were able to use them everywhere we tried. (Stores) some cast members had never even seen them yet, But you do need to spend the whole amount, which is not to hard to do
