Any water saved from drained Splash Mountain

Seriously though, I'd put my money on them pumping it into the 7 Seas Lagoon or something like that.
Your on the right track actually Disney filters the water and pumps it back into the rivers of America that is done and then is colored to look dark. That's why splash is so close to the rivers of America attraction. Thousands of gallons are pumped daily so the water in the rivers is actually the water from splash.

I know there is a reservoir backstage that holds right at 1 million gallons, but know how long the refurb is and under the Florida sun, they probably fully drained the whole thing. And the rides at IoA pump water from the lagoon, so Disney probably does the same from the canal back stage or from Rivers of America. Does anyone know how they filter it though?
Yes that same river of America. If left unattended and without maintanece the river would turn the color of regular water. It's died in special colors to make it look like a black water river. It's only 8 feet deep and all the water used for the thunder mountain geyser and splash mountain comes from rivers of America. The resovour is behind splash but the actual filter is under the ride in the utilidor.

Considering how precious water is in central Florida I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't save ALL of the water to put back into the ride once the refurb is finished.
You do realize if you dig 3 feet you will hit the Florida aquifer. Central Florida is the beggining of the Florida Everglades. Learn your geography water is precious but look at central Florida and tell me how many lakes you spot.

Johnathan don't they also oxygenate it to remove odor?

Umm, the water on Splash does not come from the Rivers of America. It is pumped in, fresh water that is treated in a filtration system that is in the Splash building. The water that is pumped out does go into the river, but incoming water doesn't come from there. Moreover, the utilidor stops before getting to splash, just under the area where Pecos is. That is why cast member working at Frontierland attractions walk through Frontierland, because tunnel access is behind the trading post and inside Pecos.

Also, the water in splash recycles... There is a reservoir that falls just short of 1 million gallons and the water constantly recycles through there, being treated with chlorine (think pool chemicals) before re-entering the ride path.

It's a reverse osmosis process. That has no need for oxygenation although the fish seem to be very happy in the rivers of America attraction. It's expensive but it cleans it out well. The process happens every hour and every day it is completely recycled as at night the pumps are shut off. You can find the schematics in some of the old books from the ride design.

I know that it's just one very large process think about the back lot tour when they show you disaster canyon and then they talk about the back were all the ingersoll rand pumps are located. I know how it works because my father helped build the filtration system back in the day.

I'm not sure what former system was in place, but in the current design the water in the reservoir constantly cycles through the ride, but never changes unless the reservoir is drained and refilled or more water is added to combat evaporation. Additionally, the pumps are not turned off every night... They are constantly running to prevent the water from becoming stagnant. The flume does get drained into the reservoir several times a week, but the reservoir is only drained during refurbs and in the event of extreme cases where access to the bottom of the reservoir is needed for maintenance.

My point is that the water from the Rivers of America does not get pumped into Splash. The short answer as to why is because in the event someone falls into the river, they would have to have a tetanus shot... It would be unsafe to turn around and spray that water a guests regardless of what kind of filtration was used. I know because I'm a VERY recent cast member of Splash, Thunder and TSI/Bears, with intimate working knowledge of the ride systems that are currently in place.

Clearly you are the exception to the rule, as that is your "role in the show" as they say.
Yup. It's interesting though you do see a lot of negativity in most places but when you see something interesting you have the power to be able to change it. Beats paper and letters. This is all just a new system to do it.

As others have said, there is a reservoir backstage where the water in the mountain naturally drains to via gravity. The pumps then pump the water back up into the mountain from there.

Chances are they just pumped it into the Seven Seas Lagoon and will replace it with fresh water when the refurb is done, but there is a precedent set by Disney in Anaheim for recycling water. There was a whole media thing back when they were starting work on World of Color at DCA where Disney didn't just pump the lake into the sewers, but rather they specifically pumped it into trucks or some other system where it was hauled away, treated and then used to refill the lagoon when the WoC stuff had been installed. I'd have to do some research to find more detail than that.

I can guarantee it will be filled with fresh water before it reopens. Most flumes have their water replaced at least once every few weeks.

Fun Fact: During my trip in 2010 I started a Disney Attraction Water Collection. I have a bottle of Splash Mountain, Small World, and Pirates of the Caribbean water. I know, I know "por favor, mantenga las manos, brazos, pies y piernas dentro del vehiculo" but I couldn't help it ;) . And I love my little collection
