Any Star Tours news?

I think they current reality is that Star Tours will not get any kind of major revamp. A new movie maybe, but even that is unlikely for as long as Lucasfilm and Disney disagree on upgrades to the systems.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned this, but don't you think the fact that body wars and star tours opened very close together was a sign of Disney just pumping out a couple of easy rides back even 15 years ago?

Star Tours is a great ride, if you go on to it with the same frame of mind you did the first time then you'll have a great time I'm Sure! If you go on it and you're looking around thinking 'Boy this ain't as good as M:S and sure needs updating' you won't!Just get into the ride and you'll have fun! All you die hard disney fans realise surely they can't update everything, so why complain, just sit bag and enjoy the ride! (Unless it makes you sick, thats understandable !:sohappy: )

Star Tours was much wilder when it first opened. Now it's pretty tame. Careening over the Death Star and down the canyon is the whole ride. The rest is boring. The screen is too small to really get into the battle, and asteroids would have been better than comets.

As for sims, Back to the Future and Stormrider are better, and maybe even the old Hanna Barbera one which was just straight fun.

It doesn't look like we'll see a new one as long as ME is there.

WDI were developing a Redifusion simulator back in `84, and once Eisnet et al came onboard, he got Lucas to look at several projects, including this one for Disneyland. Star Tours was developed from here, at the same time the Studios were in planning, and we got 2 Lucas atttractions side by side at MGM (& Captain EO and Indy EMV - originally planned for MGM as well until AK came along)

At the same time (busy time at WDI) the Life Pavillion was stuck - how to do a human body ridethrough (the original Omnimover concept wasn`t working out) and so the motion base of Star Tours was connected with the script for the Body Ride and we got Body Wars. It wasn`t exactly cheap - apart from making the buildings and films, Disney purchased 15 motion bases on which to build custom cabins, and also another 4 TDL and then 6 for DLP)

Yes! Do that! Listen to Andy! Even I no longer find the drops and thrills as thrilling, because I no longer get surprised by it, I still like to laugh during the whole ride because I think it is still fun. And I love how they can make it feel like you really get inside of a spaceship. BTW, what is that little robot's name again? Rex? Red?

Heading for the great escape.
Star Tours will not be upgraded as following the announcement that Endor does not have a machine readable passport system or proper luggage screening there will be insufficient travellers to justify new craft.

Although this is my favorite WDW simulator, it definitely needs a new theme/movie. This ride is old and, IMO it doesn't measure up to Back to the Future or Spiderman.

Spiderman is not a simulator. It is a 3D Roller Coaster. It's different because you're actually on a track.

Hey is it just me..but check this out.

Shouldn't it be Body Tours, and Star Wars? They got them mixed up...

"Star Tours" is named the way it is because of the story behind the ride. Its the name of the intergalactic shuttling company you're riding with through the ride. If it was simply called "Star Wars" it would be kind of vague :veryconfu

err, its a simulator on a track. A moving Star Tours if you will (with an open roof). Its definately not a coaster.

And for whoever earlier (sorry), I think it is Rex

Absolutley. Spiderman is novel since it uses a moving motion base - a variation on Star Tours 3 axis system - its more akin to an EMV system (but with the added feature of spinning). If it is track based its not automatically a roller coaster - Mr.Toads Wild Ride moved faster than Spidy (IOA test footage is freely available for comparision) and that was a simple dark ride, not a coaster!

It's a sim, it's a coaster, it's a 3-D movie, it's...sorry, wrong movie parallel. The beauty of Spiderman is that it combines all of these into one mega-attraction. They really beat the spidey-pants off of Disney with this one.

Oh sorry for confusion. I didn't mean an actual roller coaster. I meant like, on a track, and it moves. It is still different than Star Tours. It does the motion simulations by moving on a track And it's combined with 3D. It must have been incredibly hard for them to get the timing exactly right for that though! Because the track had to fit the movie.

It WAS incredibly hard for them to get the motion right... I think we agree it was worth it though! BTW - the `motion simulations` are created by the motion base on board the ride vehicle, not by moving along the track. All the track does is (simply) enable the ride vehicle move through the different sets. The track itself is reletivley level compared to the motion a guest experiences. Think of it as an advanced version of a Dinosaur EMV, or Star Tours on wheels.
