Any rumors on December Refubs?

Hi,
I'm a member on a few websites, but this is my first question on WDWMagic. My family and I live in New York so we don't get too many opportunities to make it down to WDW, but it is our favorite place to be.

I was just wondering if anyone has heard any rumors about major attractions being refurbished during the first week in December? So far the only ride I've seen is Magic Carpets (not a big loss). Wouldn't be the end of the world if something was down, just seems like this is the calm before the storm. I keep expecting to see half of MagicKingdom on the rehab list when I check for updates. Is it possible that nothing major will be down considering this is such a quite time of year?

Thanks

Don't forget the "seasonal" rides will probably be closed (if I remember correctly w/o looking, most of those were in Epcot's Future World). I really wouldn't say that Dec. is quiet, though; the week of Christmas and the week between Christmas and New Year's is one of the busiest seasons.

I have noticed several rides going down for Jan.

Don't worry. December is typically refurb free except for one of the water parks is typically down and it is TL's turn this year. As the OP said the seasonal rides may be closed, but there really are no more seasonal rides currently. Body Wars & Cranium Command are seasonal and the word is that they will not open again.

I was going to agree that there are not many seasonal rides left. I was down the last week of November last year and even the seasonal rides, i.e. Wonders of Life, were open.

Okay, I went back & checked the Disney website. It says that, other than MCA, Body Wars, Cranium Command, and Making of Me are closed seasonally, including the entire month of Dec. Go to parks, then hit Operational Updates to obtain this info.

Hope that puts your mind at ease!

Thanks all!!!!

Anyone heard if the SSE refurb is going to be extended? I heard that it was slow going and that it was not going to be done by the scheduled date. Not sure if this is just an unfounded rumor or if there is something to that.

I have also heard that Spaceship Earth will be extended until mid December. Does anyone else know more?

I am still hoping for NOV 14th (or just mid NOV in general)... and will continue to do so until we get more offical word from the mouse. However, Lee and a couple of other folks in the know around here... have stated it looks like a mid-DEC opening now. Which... I hope that isnt the case. :-\

I too, am hoping that they get their you-know-whats in gear and get SSE earth done by Thanksgiving. I understand that sometimes these things happen, but I'm still hoping *crosses fingers* that they get it done close to on time!

If it's not done on time for this trip, I guess we'll just have to plan another trip sometime soon!!

Typically, they don't have time to close things for any sort of refurb in early December. There isn't enough of a window between the peak crowds of Thanksgiving and Christmas to do much. At most, you see a closure of a minor attraction for a few days, which is what's happening with the Magic Carpets.

The only exceptions to this are extended refurbs like Disneyland's Space Mountain a few years back that was closed for over a year, and times when scheduled refurbs take longer and their opening is pushed back (as is rumored to be happening with Spaceship Earth).

I found this:

December 2007
MAGIC KINGDOM
  • Magic Carpets of Aladdin in the Magic Kingdom will be closed December 2 through 8 for refurb.
EPCOT
  • Innoventions: Opportunity City Exhibit at Epcot closed through February 1, 2008.
  • Too Small to See Exhibit at Epcot closed through January 11, 2008.
  • L'Originale Alfredo di Roma in Epcot's Italy pavilion closes August 31, 2007. Beginning September 1, the restaurant, now operated by the Patina Restaurant Group, will sport the interim name "Tutto Italia." A lengthy refurb in spring 2008 will precede a fall opening of the permanent Italian restaurant, name as yet undetermined.
DISNEY MGM STUDIOS
  • Mickey Avenue in the Disney MGM Studios will be closed, possibly through 2007, between the Backlot Tour and Journey to Narnia attractions.
TYPHOON LAGOON
  • Typhoon Lagoon begins its annual winter closure on October 28. It will reopen in January 6, 2008.
ANIMAL KINGDOM LODGE
  • Ongoing construction at Animal Kingdom Lodge through Spring 2008, and new construction through Spring 2009.
CONTEMPORARY RESORT
  • The Food and Fun Center in the Contemporary Resort is closed and its location will be converted to a new table service restaurant, The Wave, opening in Spring 2008. At that time the Concourse Steakhouse will close its doors permanently. Throughout this reconfiguration period, a temporary quick-service location, Tempo Grab and Go, will open near the Outer Rim lounge on the 4th floor of the hotel. A new permanent counter service restaurant, located in the current Concourse Steakhouse location, will open Summer 2008.
