Any point in arriving to AK @ opening?

Is there anything special I'll be missing if I get there @10 instead of 9?
Well this really depends on you. AK is NOT a full day park, so what will you do after it's closed ? If you're going on to Disney Springs or you're going back to your resort, then no, you can arrive at 10am and utilise your FP within AK.
However, if you're going onto another WDW park after AK closes then you're going to be standing at the back of several long attraction lines. My advice in this case - Get to AK before the crowds and do the attractions via Stand-by. Save your FP for the second park of the day and avoid the lines in both parks

Na, AK doesn't do anything like the MK as in a welcome show etc. being only showing up an hour later lines aren't bad at all (normally). Everest could have a line but shouldn't be bad, the safari would be the one I'd be cautious of since ev one tries to go on it early morning while the animals are out and about the most. Overall, IMHO showing up at AK is the same regardless of time of day. Have a great time!

The only worry is the Safari as others have stated. Everest offers a single rider line, so if you don't mind your party being broken up, you can go that route.

Though AK isn't a full day park simply because it's not open late, there is still plenty to do there that can keep you at the park well into the late afternoon. If you haven't seen it yet, make some time to watch the Lion King show...it's fantastic. They also have a Nemo show, and though it isn't quite as exciting (IMO), it's still a good show.

The only benefit that we've ever had by being their freaky early (and that was because we had an 8am Tusker House reservation and the park opened at 9am) was that after eating fairly quickly at Tusker House, we walked over to the safaris (which hadn't officially opened yet) and the CM manning the entry asked us if we wanted to be the first guests on the safari that morning. She escorted us back through the exit and onto a private truck. Just us, the CM that invited us, and the driver. And because it was so early and they were still doing the sunrise safaris, we often had to stop for extended periods to wait for the sunrise safari truck in front of us to move along...which meant we had a motionless truck from which to take all of the photos of whatever happened to be nearby that we wanted.

Of course, that's not guaranteed to everyone and who knows if they're even doing this every morning or even still doing it at all. But it was a nice surprise benefit of being in the park extra early.

Taking pictures with less people in the park. I have always been told that the animals are more active earlier in the day too so the earlier you get on the safari the better.

I strongly disagree. I plan one full day at DAK plus another half day where I hop to Epcot for a late lunch / early dinner. DAK can be a half-day park if your goal is to check off the list of attractions, but if you like to take your time and enjoy the animals, it's at least a full day.

It's not time of day as much as temperature. If it's winter, the animals will be fairly active throughout the day. Early morning becomes more important for animal activity in the heat of summer when they hide and nap in the shade most of the day.

I think maybe the flock of birds (parrots maybe?), at least we saw them right around opening. As mentioned, an hour in the lines for the headliners will be building up a fair amount.

The only reason I would go there early is to do the Safari before it gets too hot for the animals and they disappear from the trail. A good reason, in my opinion.

We try to get there at park open and ride the rides we want then wander for a bit hitting the shows or the walk through attractions. This saves our FP's for another park at night.

No, not in my opinion. We're going in July. We'll be at MK the day before so this trip we decided we'd stay at MK late, sleep in a little the next day and go to AK in time for our first fast pass ride. But, when I say sleep in a little I mean be at AK around 10-ish.

I always do rope drop at DAK. That gives me time to do the Safari first thing, and then to walk over to Everest for 3 or more rides before the lines get too long. After that I just putter around till lunch at the Flame Tree, and then I'm off to my hotel, a happy tired ol' guy!

I'm able to ride Everest, Dinosaur and hit up a few minor attractions within 30-45 minutes. Plus the animals are likely to be out before it gets too hot

If possible I would always be at any of the parks for opening. You can generally get a bunch done before other people, even ones showing up at early as 10 even show up. You may also want to make sure AK doesn't have early EMH that day as that can cause the crowds to jump a bit early on.
