Any point in arriving to AK @ opening?

I strongly disagree. I plan one full day at DAK plus another half day where I hop to Epcot for a late lunch / early dinner. DAK can be a half-day park if your goal is to check off the list of attractions, but if you like to take your time and enjoy the animals, it's at least a full day.

It's not time of day as much as temperature. If it's winter, the animals will be fairly active throughout the day. Early morning becomes more important for animal activity in the heat of summer when they hide and nap in the shade most of the day.
seconding this.. AKL for me is a "relaxing" day park, not to run attraction to attraction.
Enjoy the shows, the views..etc..

If you ask my husband, he would say absolutely...to listen to the Gibbons calling!:) I've never heard them myself. It helps to have an interest in learning about wildlife like he does though.

Don't listen to the "half day" AK crowd. Like any park, AK can be done in a half day but you really won't experience the park doing it that way.

Get there early and enjoy some of the walking trails, exhibits, and bigger rides.

I can do MK in a half day if I really try...but that's not really the point of a theme park, is it!

Yeah AK is not a half day park at all, i spent the whole day there, can't wait to spend the evening there as well now..

i like chilling out and watching the gorilla's for a good half hour... could sit and watch them all day

Blink, blink. Breathe, breathe. Day in, day out.
Is there anything special I'll be missing if I get there @10 instead of 9?

Nah. The park is actually normally empty no matter what time of the year it is a couple of hours before parking closing. (Which is why it closes so early. I'm sure it would close at 9 if the popularity was there. I don't think it's the animal situation)
