Since this is your first time, if possible, go to the Magic Kingdom first and get there for the welcome show before the park opens.

As others have said, plan on being at the parks right at opening (or about 30 minutes early). A WDW vacation is not a sleeping-in vacation. You can get SO much done in that first couple of hours. Take the afternoon off and head back to the hotel for a swim and/or a nap, and then head back into the parks for evening festivities like parades, fireworks and eating. Above all, again as others have said, RELAX! Don't try to do everything. If your crew is tired, don't flog them into riding one more ride or seeing one more show. Remember, you're on vacation!

Yes we do want to be there 30 min before rope drop
Thanks for the tip about the welcome show but i think they only do it when EMH are in the morning...and on the days we are going that wont be the case

Since it is now Saturday, consider this some SUPER last minute advice:
  1. Sunscreen if you burn easily
  2. Enjoy some good snacks if it's in your budget (Dole Whip, Mickey Bar)
  3. At the bottom of the ramp to get on It's a Small World, there will be a Cast Member named Charlie. If you slip him a $20 and say the password, "Bob Iger," he will take you through a secret passageway in the wall. As you travel through the underground, you will soon see... wait, no, I've said too much, disregard that last part. ;)

Does anyone know when you can start planning a 2017 vacation? The current calendar just goes out through December of this year. Thanks!

That's actually a big one for me. I couldn't make it any more from rope drop to park close without that old guy nap in the heat of the afternoon!
