Any insight on the old Odyssey?

The cafeteria is in the large square white building adjacent to the TT loop and across the road behind Mexico. You can see from this picture that the Odyssey is actually alone sandwiched between Mexico and TT and there really isn't room there for much of anything.

Nope, the building you're mentioning, last i knew, primarily houses wardrobe/lockers, offices, and a small breakroom-ala snack machines. Its where the CM's enter EPCOT from backstage from their lot.

Otherwise, if a sinking building was an issue, i don't think they'd want guests walking there.

If the buyilding is sinking, it is not what y'all are thinking. It would be a very slow sinking because it is on swampland. It wouldn't even sink an inch in a year. The building would have no problems either because one part probably wouldn't sink faster than another part, and the walkways will probably sink in proportion to the building.

I've linked to the same picture with several buildings labeled. http://photoalbums.wdwmagic.com/showphoto.php?photo=6571

The Cast Services buildings is the wardrobe, offices, a lounge with vending machines, etc. No cafeteria.

I can't really remember where the cast cafeteria in FW is, but I thought is was part of The Odyssey complex. I never went there, I had my own cafeteria/breakroom at my location.

i read somewhere either on here or on mouseplanet that there was a rumor of a toy story/buzz lightyear char meal possibly going in there.. with mission space close by..it could fit in i suppose.

I know my kids would love that, but anything at this point would be great to put instead of leaving an empty building there.

I remembered that back in '96, I had gone upstairs and they had a selection of books. In '02, I was looking for a copy of "Building a Dream," and searched every bookstore I could think of at the Resort, probably much to the annoyance of my family.

My sister and I walked all over what is now Mousegears trying to find the way to the elusive second level.

Anyway, I wound up getting the book online for half of what it retailed for, so it all worked out in the end.

LOL.....not only was there a second story, there was a glass elevator taking you there. That was my mothers favorite "ride" in epcot (she's not much of a ride person) and when they changed it to mousegear, she too went looking for the second floor with the glass elevator to take you there.

I had heard that it was closed just due to the fact of its location. Apparently it was very hard to fine for most guest. I too some time have trouble trying to get to it at times. I would have to agree though that if the building and crosswalk was sinking that it would either be closed off of no longer standing due to safety issues that would defiantly have to be dealt with.

The Odyssey was always used for pin events and releases, art events and other things. I wish they would do something with it. There are side walks going to and from it but when you gete there, there is nothing but bathrooms you can go into. I went into the Odyssey 2 years ago to look at pins that were for sale but everything in there was empty.

Is this a part of Future World or World Showcase? It's kind in between and it's out of the way. Maybe they need to make it an exibit building for Disney Art or something.

The old Millenium Village building is the same way. I've seen private parties going into that building (weddings, meeting, etc.) but maybe Disney should turn that building into another attraction for that side of World Showcase. It's right between Canada and England so it could easily be adapted. Plus that side of World Showcase has no attraction and lacks guest appeal to me. I don't know though. Maybe they do have something going on and just aren't saying anything!:zipit:

I've been inside the Odyssey to use the restrooms and have ventured near the payphones (this is by the entrance closest to Test Track). I've noticed the partitions blocking off the lobby area (where the payphones/restrooms are) and the actual dining area is.

Sometimes, depending on what time of day it is, you can smell food in there. I swore I smelled spaghetti sauce at one time.

but, i do remember a few things...like remember when the store that is now Mouse Gears was two stories? and the futuristic show in front of the fountain with the robotic T-rex?

sorry to go off on a bit of a tangent like that...but the Odyssey brought back some old memories :)

It wasn't called MouseGear when it was two stories. Wasn't it called something else? I could be wrong.

Does anyone have pictures of the inside of the Millenium Villiage? Are the "egg-type" pods that were part of the "different seasons" attraction at Norway (or whatever country it was in there) still hanging from the cieling?

The upstairs was an Art of Disney for the more expensive items like art prints and watches. It is now closer to the entrance of the park on the first floor.
I want the odyssey to be a regular sit down resturant. No characters or anything else. just give it a nice theme, maybe like the overhaul they did to the LAX resturant.

Does the upstairs even still exist? (As far as Mousegear goes) and I agree WDWFanatic, Odyssey should just be a segway between FW and WS. Maybe they should offer light fare such as sandwiches, soups, or a place to stop and get a cup of coffee for that late morning/early afternoon caffeine rush. :)

Yeah I think it should be used for a restaurant again and without characters. I love a character meal as much as the next guy – but the Future World section of EPCOT could use just a normal restaurant to sit in and relax – you know I think that’s what the Odyssey was built for in the first place.

I agree, they should use it as a food pavilion...but with a twist...why not have it like a "Hall of Old Epcot"...you know...have bits a pieces of old exhibits...i.e old Figment, old Universe, old Horizons....etc...and just that type of stuff for display to view while you eat..much like the Planet Hollywood theme.

Just a thought......would be nice to see some oldies but of course goodies!!

what about turning it into a buffet restuarent with meals availble from all over the countries of the world showcase?

I think that would be somewhat unnecessary. You've already got restaurants of all those countries.

If you want a restaurant of countries, why not have a rotating/buffet of countries that aren't in the WS?

Maybe I think what we're arriving at is:

Take the countries that were in the "Millenium Pavilion" (Israel, Denmark, Saudi Arabia, India, etc..etc..) and offer their different types of food.

Granted, I'm sure it wouldn't go over well with the kids because they're interested in burgers, pizza, french fries, etc. But, it would be a culinary treat for the adults. :)

Ya like that, huh? "culinary treat" <---feel free to use this in future postings!

(note to everyone on this board -- CAFFEINE HASN'T KICKED IN YET!!!) :D

I like the buffet idea – but I don’t think Disney would go for it because they want people to eat the respective pavilions – the idea of other countries is cool – but if they were to open a restaurant like that it should be deep within World Showcase not on the outskirts of Future World.

The best idea (in my worthless opinion) is the "Hall of Old Epcot" restaurant that BeachClub came up with. Think about it eating around props from Horizons and World of Motion as the old themes play in background. They could have flat screen plasmas hanging down playing vintage video loops and clips highlighting ideas that never came to pass. But Disney would have to keep it a bit classy like “One Mans Dream” over at MGM, they shouldn’t let it get too chessy.

I have extensive video of the inside of that building when it was open durring the celebration. I walked everywhere filming everything (including inside of those pods of Sweden) because I knew that the building would only be used for a small time.
