Any idea why this happens?

For the past two or three days, I´ve been having problems loging into the forums or the main site. I am able to do it when I first get online in the day, but then, when I get offline and want to come back here, it shows me the first page but out of date. When I click on 'view new posts' a little window pops asking me if I want to reconnect or stay without connection, so I click on reconnect and from there, it shows me "unable to find server" and wdwmagic never loads!

I tried with links that others sent me, googled the site, with every other link I have on my laptop and nothing! No way to see any wdwmagic link.

I lost my patience last night after rebooting twice and deleting the cookie for the forums, and this morning, I logged in fine again! I may not be able to load the site later as it happened last night! Why?? I am so confused! :veryconfu It was the only site I couldn´t load, everything else was working fine.

You should always be able to get to www.wdwmagic.com. If you cant get there, it would point to a problem with your ISP routing to WDWMAGIC, or potentially an issue on your machine. Are you running any kind of virus checker/firewall?

Thank you Steve!

I don´t know what it is... are you thinking it´s a virus then? I was given a link to something called "housecall" that I will run later if you think that´s what it is... but why only to your site? Norton is what I have installed and it usually updates daily and runs weekly or when it detects something, but seems to be fine.

We´ll see if I am able to see wdwmagic again today... I´m getting offline now.

No I wasnt thinking you had a virus, I was thinking that you may have some security software that is interferring with the normal operation of the site. There have been quite a few cases of people running Nortom Firewall and having it block access to WDWMAGIC.

ditto...same thing with me. I thought my server went down a few times. It forces me to sign back in and then everything works fine.

hhmmm.... not that I know of... I reviewed my security settings and didn´t find anything too extreme.

In my case, the page just wouldn´t load at all.

This is the second time today that I get online and so far, it´s been working fine. Even though I deleted the cookie for the forums last night, I didn´t have to relogin in the forums today like I thought I would need to, so that´s even weirder to me... I thought cookies were to store my data and not having to login again, no? This computer stuff is not for me! :hammer:

Howdy Steve:

I don't want it to seem as though it happens everytime I am browsing thru the forum cuz it doesn't.
On occasion, all appears to be normal but as I am browsing from page to page, all of a sudden I get that black and white page that says, "This page cannot be displayed." The box in my taskbar says, "Cannot find server." It's as if the server went down. I have to exit the forum and re-enter and all will be fine again til next time. If I had to put a number to it, I'd say this happens once a day, maybe twice depending on how much of a life I don't have that day.:D

It's nothing I can't live with but, since others have complained, I wanted to let you know of my experience with it too. Normally, I have no problems browsing the forum so to have ANY problem at all, draws my attention.

I have nothing running in the background except Norton Anti-virus as I have had since the beginning. I have no firewalls or pop-up blockers or anything like that. Oh sorry, I do have a weather bug running but have had that for several months and this is a new problem for me.

Steve,

I've had this happen lately too.

It doesn't happen very often. Not even every day.

Usually when it does it, I'll leave for about 30 minutes, and when I come back, everything is fine. It seems to do it on my days off when I hang around here quite a bit.

I don´t know if it´s the same thing they are talking about, but I have clicked on a link lately and I got the black and white page with a little paragraph on the left upper corner that says something in bold like "CTS Error" or something like that. I just hit the back button and click on the link again, and it works fine then. Not sure if it´s the same, but I thought I would say it too. :)

This occasionally happens to me too, it is caused by my Norton Firewall. I get a Norton message about TCP flags and it blocks the ip for 30 minutes.

To fix: click on Norton and click on Intrusion Detection. Highlight the wdwmagic ip and unblock.

Thanks for that info. Norton Firewall seems to have a number of issues with WDWMAGIC. Thanks for your work-around on that. :)

That one is a CGI error on the server, that happens about once every 20,000 requests on the server, so you may see that every now and then. Nothing you can do about that one, and you should be able to return to the site immediately by just going to http://forums.wdwmagic.com, or hitting refresh.

Steve, the only times i seem to have trouble with the site is during times of unusually high traffic - like during the Meeting on last Wednesday or other 'breaking news' type things at WDW. How much can the site handle before it just stops handleing responses?

I have no problems with Norton Firewall and this site - Only on Hotmail.

I knew it was with C! :D
So I have been the lucky one, huh? There should be a prize for the 20,000 request! :animwink: Thanks Steve and thanks Disneyman, I´ll check on that! :)

I usually get that with ESPN, never here. Never had this address pop up.

It's also usually during busier times like Dave said.
