Another stateroom question

Deluxe oceanview family staterooms hold 4 correct? I was curious about availability for a June cruise (I know, ridiculous right?) DCL online shows availability for 2 people but none if I put in 4 (can't very well go without my guys). Is this a glitch or does Disney have deluxe family staterooms that only hold 2?

It sounds ridiculous even asking this. Maybe I should call a travel agent? This cruise stuff is confusing.

ETA - A Concierge Royal Suite opened up for $18,000. For real?!?!? No thanks.

Deluxe Oceanview Stateroom with Verandah - 3 or 4

Deluxe Family Oceanview Stateroom with Verandah - 4 or 5

Also depends on how full the ship is, capacity of kids clubs etc

I'm pretty new to this, too. It's certainly different from the way WDW & hotels work. Lol!

Isn't there a greater percentage of the 5-capacity staterooms on the Dream vs. Magic/Wonder?

Have you tried starting out searching with 1 adult + 1 kiddo then when you are offered the option to add additional staterooms add another with the other 2 guests? It'd be more expensive but there's more room.

I've used Tammy w/Kingdom Konsultants to get my crash course in cruising in and book 2 cruises. Pop an email to one of the KK crew. They can help you find what you're looking for and make sense of it all.

Thanks. :) When I'm ready I'll probably do that. I don't want to be a pest but with this stuff I have no idea.

And I am one of those people that takes a 4 person stateroom even though there are only 3 of us.

I am a single dad traveling with 2 girls. When necessary, my 9 y/o will sleep in the same bed with me, but kids being as kids are, they both really want their own beds. So, we get request a four person room. A queen sized bed for dad, and two single bunks for the girls.

I feel justified seeing as even though we are technicaly a party of 1 adult + 2 children I get charged for 2 adults + 1 child.

I thought I was being a pest, too, but really I wasn't. Or maybe Tammy would argue that. LOL! Basically, as TA's that's kinda what they do to earn their money, not just book reservations and such. That's what they're trained to do. Technically, after asking all the ??s, I could've very well booked everything online myself but I let Tammy do it all so she'd get what I felt she earned (or at least part of what she earned since I thought she was worth her weight in gold :D). Then, when we decided to book a Pacific cruise with one of the new itineraries I had her do that, too, so she'd get the credit for it just because she's been so helpful. I also plan to do a little something extra when it's cruise time. :animwink: Personally, I've enjoyed working with a KK consultant that I'm familiar with because I know they "get it". They're Disney fans like me so they understand the emotions, concerns, etc. and knew what it was like to be on my side of the table. I encourage you to give one of them a holler. Seriously. I don't think you'd be a thorn in their side. If I was one of them not only would I get enjoyment out of being helpful to someone I have my Disney-love in common with, I'd be doing my job which lends it's own plethora of satisfaction to the ballgame. Ya know?

And if you want to come here I'm sure there's plenty of folks who'll be as helpful as possible. I'm not the most knowledgable by any means but I'm interested to learn right along with you. I find 'new' Disney experiences to be quite exciting! :sohappy:

I hope you didn't think I was knocking someone for booking a 4-person cabin for a 3-person family. :D I'd be kinda a hypocrite if I thought something like that considering I've got a 5 person/4 bed stateroom for my family of 4 who only requires 3 beds total. Well, I suppose the old man could do something to get me mad enough to put him on the 4th bed but that's a whoooole other ballgame. I say book what you're comfortable with. For me the occupancy doesn't matter as long as the room will accommodate the maximum number safely. Aside from that requirement, it's about what you're willing to spend for the space you're most comfortable with. Heck yeah. I think it was only like $60 or $75 more or something along those lines for us to book a stateroom that had like 50 more square feet of space. That's 1/5 the size of a 250 sq. ft. stateroom so I figured $20 to $25 a night for 3 nights with that much more room would be money well-spent. Ya know? I've lived in a studio hotel room with my teenagers. The smaller the space the worse it is. LOL! And hey! Who's to say I wouldn't spent the $18k on one of the big suites for just the old man and me if money were no object?! Right?! ((a girl can dream...no pun intended))

Dave, I gotta tell ya, I love listening to you talk about traveling with your girls. It totally reminds me of when I was little. The sun totally rose and set with my dad. I only got to see him once or twice a year so when I did I was attached at the hip. My aunt tells me stories about how I'd follow him around everywhere, even sit outside the bathroom door when he was in there. If he had ever taken me on a cruise he'd have only *needed* to pay for a broom closet because I always slept right up underneath him. I look back now, considering how I've never slept worth a flip with one of my own kids in the same room as me let alone the same bed, and wonder how the man ever got an ounce of rest. And that was how he spent his leave from the Navy so it's not like he had so many nights to sleep peacefully and late in the mornings. You're a good dad. I just think that's so cool!

Ahh! That's so nice! Definitely not a pest! :) It is absolutely what we do. We answer questions as well as book. If we just booked, you wouldn't need us at all other than maybe the convenience factor!

The thing about cruises is they can fit a certain number of people in each category. It's a lifeboat thing as I understand it. The ships are not meant to have max capacity in each room. If they start getting close to capacity in a category, they will only open remaining rooms in that category only for double occupancy. That way they don't risk having empty rooms.

That's why sometimes a cruise or category is sold out for 4 people, but it's open for two.

Sometimes categories will reopen as Disney upgrades and shifts people around too.

Oh I agree with you there. I did not think you were complaining. If money were no object we would upgrade as well. Actualy this time we are in an oceanview vs. a full veranda because quite frankly, my 9 y/0 scares the bejuzzes out of me. She is the kind of kid who would hang from her ankles over the balcony railing just to see what was below us. I almost hope we DON'T get a free upgrade. Two years ago she came home from riding her bike and told me "Dad, guess what, I touched a train." Yeah, she takes after me with the no fear / willing to try just about anything part, but she lacks any sort of self preservation.

Those are some great memories for you to have. Thanks for the compliments. It's tough not being around my girls all the time, but we make do with what we can, and have a great time when we are together.
