Annoying Transportation

Is it me or is the bus system annoying?? Or maybe I just noticed?? I came from the Magic Kingdom to TTC to catch a bus to Downtown Disney because a cast member told me that I had to go to TTC to catch a Dowtown Disney bus. Come to find out that no buses from TTC go to Downtown Disney. Another cast member told me that I had to walk to the Polynesian to catch a bus. So, I walked to the Polynesian and waited fifteen minutes for a bus without air conditioning, mind you this was last week!! Yes, it is hot in Florida =) The bus ride took a while and I had to deal with some old lady yelling at the bus driver because it was too hot. That was just annoying, I mean what could the bus driver do in the middle of his run?? It was a FUN bus ride... but my point isn't the ride, it is the fact that there should be something from TTC!! Or at least the Magic Kingdom... lol. Just thought that I would share... hehehe =) Still love Disney!!

I also agree, if its s uppost to be the transportation CENTER then it should be the CENTER of all transportation...

Yeah, TTC should be the center of all transportation. Now it seems that you have to go to three different resorts to get to the right bus. And then cast members bug you about being at the resort when you aren't a guest... lol =)

my annoyance issue isn't with the lack of a downtown disney bus stop at the TTC, but rather how long it takes to get to downtown disney....let me explain.

This is based on the service as of November 2003, from the All Star Movies Resort

I would get on the Downtown Disney Bus and we'd get to that sign, it was a water tower if i remember right for something Disney Vacation Club Related. We then would take a left and make a GI-NOR-MOUS circle around, passing the old key west entrance if i remember right, and past the saratoga springs (then construction site) area and this whole process took about 8-12 minutes. The one cool thing though was seeing the Reedy Creek Fire Department.

Anyway, as we would leave Downtown Disney going back to the All Star Movies, we would pull out of the lot, and take a right, and go down about two signals and there's that water tower thing. This annoyed me because, why can't the drivers just go straight and cut the extra 10 minutes off the travel time?

Agreed. It was the biggest pain in the rear to make my way around to Downtown Disney...which for me involved (if i remember correctly) taking a bus from EPCOT to TTC to Port Orleans to EVERY SINGLE STOP on port orleans to DTD

They need to revise the transportation system so that intra-resort buses are not the same as the inter-resort buses.

there is or was a reason for this. i can't remember precisely but there was a reason for it.

of course if you ask the bus driver what it was he'd just say it's the route they tel them to take. which is allt hey tell them.

actually, i prefer that over what they do with the Boardwalk.

BW is part of the Swan, Dolphin and BC but it's the last stop. so 99% of the time the bus that pulls up to go to say MK is full. it doesn't stop. next bus is full. and the enxt bus. it takes a very long time to get on a bus to MK from BW. meanwhile, the amount of people wanting to go to MK at BW is growing.

if the first bus is full, why can't they send the next bus to stop at BW FIRST and then goto the others? you'd have a lot less angry people.

I refuse to stay at the Epcot hotels ever again for that very reason. Its crazy, and its not just the MK bus, mostly every single bus that operates on that loop is always full

Never had a problem with the busses. The longest ride we ever had was from Coronado to DTD. But, they are trying to accomidate alot of people. I think they do an excellent job. Plus, IT'S FREE! Can't complain about free.

You didn't need to go to TTC. Epcot to Port Orleans would have worked and then you would have had a choice of bus or boat to DTD.

I think that a long time ago it was a bit easier - each resort had it's own bus. Now it seems they try to combine bus routes to increase efficiency, and that makes them worse. I usually end up with a car and avoid them.

There are a number of posts if you do a search on peoples ideas about expanding the monorails r peoplemover system, so I will not open that debate up. But I do think they need to do somethign about the transportation issue.

the routes that the busses take are all a function of traffic conditions. Disney selects the fastest routes for all of the busses to take. If all of the busses headed toward DTD went on the same roads as those returning to the resorts, traffic would be even worse than usual, and that is both hard on the busses and it annoys guests. At least if you are moving, you can see the sites around Disney World instead of rows of cars. While there are a couple weak areas in the transportation, the system works very well. I don't honestly understand the Epcot bus loop. Guests paying about $300 per night should not have to so long for busses and then have to stand on them. That's why I don't usually go w/ deluxe resorts...Pop Century has a better transportation system and for a place where I just sleep, I can handle the smaller room, lack of a slide, far lower rates, better food court, and more busses.

OMG that exact thing happened to us in September! We couldn't find a bus from MK so we took the monorail to TTC and they didn't have a bus either so we had to get one from the resort. Only we ended up waiting 30 mins at the Polynesian, not 15. All in all it took us about 2-3 HOURS to get from Magic Kingdom to Downtown Disney!!

I'm almost starting to wonder if I should have just stayed where I usually do instead of trying Port Orleans Riverside this year. But we figure on taking the boat if we want to go to DTD and buses everywhere else. I usually stay at the Grosvenor which is about 5 minutes walk from DTD, but the downside is that the buses for the parks go and stop at five other hotels before getting to Grosvenor so they are usually packed when you are going, and then it is the last stop coming back to the hotel when you leave the parks. Other than that, I really haven't had any problems because usually I go to a park, then back to the hotel for a quick swim in the afternoon, then back to another park or to DTD in the evening.

yah i have said this before the dtd buses arent great the are slow, sparce, and annoying. i was there last october for mickesy halloween party staying at the hilton.well we went outside to wait for the bus and waited for over 30 minutes for it to show up. then it made 2 more stops at other hotels and then headed for mk. well i am used to the normal disney buses that stop next to the park entrance., well it didnt it went to the bus parking lot at the ttc. and by this time we were an hour late getting to mk, and i was meeting a friend there.well from there it was great until we left we got a monorail from the contemporary. so we get back to the ttc, go to the bus parking lot and what do i see. a huge group of people standing there and ends up they were with our group:( . well we look across the parking lot and theres our bus next to another one. we go over and ask y arent we leaving and she says we will in about another 30 minutes. well all this lady was doing was flirting with another bus driver:fork: :fork: . and we said well you arent doing anything why cant you take us. well she eventually took us back and that was it.

Knowing the routes

It takes some time, but once you know some of the routes, you can have a somewhat easier time.

When I stay at hotels near DTD, I walk over to the DTD stop instead of waiting for hotel loop busses. They are usually faster and you can take any number of them to resort then to park (ie bus to Poly, walk to TTC, monorail to Epcot or MK). From a park, I take a bus to a resort, usually high end, like WL, Poly, GF, then get a bus direct to DTD. From MK, I walk to the Contemporary then get a bus there.

The busses are very efficient and helpful.

It is the monorails you gotta watch out for. During peak periods, they stop on the beams while they wait for "congestion in the upcoming station" and for the monorail ahead to "reach a safe distance." I hate waiting those 10-20 minutes, standing, while the monorail sits on the beam, motionless. And for that reason, I dislike the monorail.

At least with busses, many can pull up at once and relieve the "crush" of some periods and they usually dont have all too much traffic on the streets.

I always manage to ride the monorail at least once per trip, just "cuz you hafta," and I regret it everytime the lights come on and we sit for too long on that darn beam!!

One time we were waiting for the bus to take us from Animal Kingdom back to our resort. And it started to rain so we ran to make it to the bus. The bus came about 10 minutes later. And I know that it's nice to let the handicap people in wheelchairs and the scooters to get on first...well...the bus driver opened the doors for the guy in the scooter to get on...the entire time he was helping him...he could've opened the doors for everyone else to get on the bus. It took him another 10 minutes before he even opened the doors for everyone else. But that isn't even the half of it. He then drove over the Blizzard Beach...when he wasn't even supposed to go there. He pulled up to a spot...and opened the doors..and sat for about 20 minutes...This bus driver didn't seem to know where he was going...

Another time when we wanted to take a bus TO Animal Kingdom...the bus didn't arrive for almost an hour. I saw several busses come and go...some even returned with the same driver...I think the busses need to sort out what they are doing or get a better route...

If all of the busses headed toward DTD went on the same roads as those returning to the resorts, traffic would be even worse than usual, and that is both hard on the busses and it annoys guests.

We have major highways that are narrower than Buena Vista Drive! Why do they build these giant roads and then get afraid every time someone has to touch their brakes because they are travelling to fast for the rest of traffic? I think that there is pleanty of capacity on those roads, if they would cut down on the light times and maybe make their parking lots a little less confusing.

I hate waiting those 10-20 minutes, standing, while the monorail sits on the beam, motionless.

Same thing to me as standing at the bus stop motionless waiting for another bus. I also find them a little more comfortable standing than the bus since you are not hanign over someone else. Then again I am a little more used to that, so I guess for many people it is a bit disconcerting...

sometimes those bus drivers seem to forget people are standing, and they slam on the brakes and make tight turns at high speeds...makes it really hard to not fall on people, especially when your feet hurt already!
