Is there any update on the type of ride they are considering? There is not a ton of space back there to work with, with the gondola infrastructure going in, the World Showplace event building and outbuildings...I imagine they would have to lose the maze garden unless they can clear out more of the backstage area...(if it is an actual show building and not just a carousel or spinner.)

I dont think the maze garden area would have to necessarily go, the built could start right along the tree line of that garden area in the back, maybe martin can verify but I don't see where they would "have to" to take it out even though I am looking at the original pavilion layout blueprint. Part of that could or would become some queue space or stroller parking I imagine. It certainly won't be serene anymore.

There was an IP based dark ride. Then a possible whip or carousel of the same IP. Then a dark ride again. Then another IP came along. Then it became a carousel. Then possibly a dark ride again.

Is management not considering doing both for the same attraction? Imagine you start out on a carousel and all of sudden... oops! Mary and Bert have whisked you away into a dark ride.

At the very least why not do the dark ride with the ride vehicle being a 4-person carousel horse.

Kinda like this? That was the original Tony Baxter design.

Is the entire carousel moving down a ride track in Tony's design? I like the idea since each rider would be able to see the show scenes, but I can only imagine this design would be extremely costly.

But to answer your question, yes, I had something similar in my mind when I heard Mary Poppins might get an attraction. Basically what I was thinking was have riders start on a carousel-esque ride, but then Mary & Bert pop by and spin your horse off the carousel and onto a hidden ride track. If you've seen the movie, think of the horse race scene. From the carousel, the remainder of the attraction would consist of a dark ride through Bert's street art, or something.

We know they have an animatronic Bert and Mary sitting in a warehouse somewhere.....

I believe so, yes, here's an image of some of the actual ride...

Really wouldn't be that expensive. You simply have a single motor both turning the wheels to propel the vehicle forward and spinning the carousel above. I think there may be bigger issues with making sure riders are properly secured, ride capacity, and load time that would prevent such a design from ever coming to be.

Imagineerland posted this (http://imagineerland.blogspot.com/2015/03/mary-poppins-jolly-holiday.html?_sm_au_=iJVR10DDQSSDFHNP) concept a few years ago which would be pretty cool as well where the ride starts out as a standard carousel which then breaks up into a single train of cars which moves through the attraction as a large group. Would be a much better option at least with regards to capacity and loading.
