Animal Kingdom needing more?

I think guests seem to fall in love with make believe animals, I say bring on Beastly Kingdom and add a Night Time Laser show (could even incorperate the abandoned lake somehow?) and attendance will shoot up AGAIN and definitaly make it an all day park!

5.)This would be last on my priority list, but rebuild dinorama. I was really hoping for something closer to an archeological dig or something themed area where we discovered tons of facts about dinosaurs, etc... The carnival aspect just is ugly and doesn't fit in a disney park.

I think Dinoland is quite possibly the most poorly layed out themed area of all of the parks. When you enter, its an archialogical dig site, then cheesy road side area, then back to achialogical aspect again. There's no consistantcy.

Here's how it should've been done. The story could go that once the Dino institute had opened and guests were sent on time travel trips, it became a HUGE tourist destination, therefor, cheesy tourist attractions and Dinorama opened up around it playing off of its success. ( personally, I kinda like Dinorama, it kind of represents the Dinosaur's impact on pop culture ) When you enter the land and under the olden gat bridge, the kids play area isn't there, instead, its lush tropical scenery, plants, rocks, and dramatic Jurassic Park-esque music. You then enter a court yard with the Dinosaur ( now renamed CTX like should be ) attraction located at the far end with a much more impressive facade. The Dino Institute's shops and reseraunts are located around the CTX ride along with a few educational exibits here and there. To the west of the plaza behind some foliage is the relocated kids area like it was before. A new attraction in this area is the "Dinosaur Zoo" where the Dino Institute has brought back real dinosaurs from the past and put on display ( animatronics of corse ). To the East of the plaza, across a small river and through some dense foliage is the Dinorama area where Chester and Hester's shop and Dinorama are located along with the Breakfrontasaurus ( or whatever its called ). A walkway though there leads to the Nemo show and Everest.

Just some thoughts.

I thought that WAS the story. Chester and Hester are cashing in on the popularity of the dig/institute. Is it something else?

I've never seen the roadlines although I have seen the parking lot lines. All I've ever heard is that it's mean to resemble a parkling lot carnival. If there's anymore story to it than that, then it's the worst bit of Disney storytelling ever.

Chester and Hester's isn't all that bad...it added a few smaller kid friendly attractions. That is necessary at every theme park. But Animal Kingdom definitely needs two sit down restaurants and an indoor pavilion with dark rides...perhaps a large cave themed area with a Journey to the Center of the Earth ride:sohappy: , and small cave off to the sides with animal exhibits.
The Florida sun is too hot to have a park that has few air conditioned/shaded areas.

I think that's what he meant, road or parking lot lines; six of one, half a dozen of the other.

The full name is "Chester and Hester's Dino-rama!". Before that area opened, there was a run down old gas station outside the Institute that was themed as a roadside tourist attraction run by C&H, much in the same vein as the cheesy stops up and down I-95 (ie: South of the Border). The story was that the dig site turned out incredibly rich with fossils to the point that the Institute opened there, and developed the time travel technology just for that site because they knew it had a great wealth of species. They opened it to tourists to generate revenue, and C&H rearranged their gas station to appeal to these tourists. Later, they had enough money to build their own amusement park called "Dino-rama!" next to the dig site.

I agree, though Everest is a step in the right direction for the park. To me the only rides worth doing are EE, Dinosaur, and Kali River Rapids. The Safari is nice every couple of trips. The Dino-Rama section is a huge waste IMO, carnival games? I can play those at the boardwalk back home!
I couldn't agree more about the dinorama section. It fits in so bad.

Pacific Northwest?

How about replacing Conversation Station with a Pacific Northwest theme (including authentic totem poles and such)?

OK... so I haven't fleshed that one out too much.

How about expanding on the Beastlie Kingdomme with a "fake" safari filled with AA unicorns, fairies, and other mythical creatures?

The one thing that's always bothered me about AK is that you go through the safari which wants you to believe you're in Africa. They do that very well with the close proximity to the animals and making it appear that the animals roam freely. Ok, then you take the train to Rafiki's and you are shown all the backstage areas where they keep the animals in buildings. Hmm... doesn't this totally ruin the illusion that you were just in a wide-open African plain? :zipit: I've always wondered why Disney decided to contradict its own ride by showing us the reality! Maybe this only occurred to me because we rode the train directly after we rode the safari, but it struck me as odd. :veryconfu

What I enjoy most about Animal Kingdom is that it is more of an exploration park than a ride park. Epcot is pretty much wide open - stand in a few spots and you can see everything. Animal Kingdom is fun to explore, particularly the beginning part with the birds, etc.

I think they need to put more little stuff in - little finds and such, really cool shops - not just everyday Disney-branded merchandise, but really wild stuff you wouldn't find elsewhere. I think they desperately need to improve the food there - many more options, more authenticity. I think Animal Kindgom could benefit from this. Why isn't there an Indian buffet? Street vendors selling sates? I would not do more formal shows, but I would do more street performances and street artists. Wouldn't Tapestries really fit here?

I would take theo whole poaching thing out of Kilimangaro Safari, theme that to a real safari, and turn the poaching thing into a dark ride. I would separate the train from Rafikis, and I would turn camp Minney Mickey into a more Native American theme. A Pocahontas dark ride, perhaps?

The last thing is I would spruce the place up at night. Many of these countries are famous for their festivals. So why not go with that? There could be some really cool lighting and cool events going on.

I think there is a little too much temptation (perhaps caused by people looking for more from the other parks) to turn it into another ride zone. I think they should go a little different with Animal Kingdom - keep the big rides to MGM, keep Animal Kingdom for more celebration.

I agree that the Animal Kingdom needs something else. I normally stay at Disney for a week each year and I only go to the Animal Kingdom once for about 3 hours. I ride all of the big rides then go back to my resort. I do agree though that Everest was a help, but it isn't enough. Chester and Hester reminds me of the county fair in my hometown and I believe that it was a mistake in adding it to the park.

Psssst!

They have animals at the Animal Kingdom, too!

Some people? They like to spend time looking at animals. Going on rides is all fun and good, but sometimes, watching a gorilla actually being a gorilla is pretty damned interesting.

For those of who miss Discovery Island, there's no rush to make AK wall-to-wall E-ticket attractions.

Totally agree. While I love EE, KS and Dinosaur, I wouldn't dream of missing all the animals and the walking trails. We usually visit AK for two consecutive days.

I do agree with that the Animal Kingdom needs some more sprucing up. However, I disagree with people saying the "Dino Rama" area of the part sucks. Sure, its tacky and its got generic stuff like boardwalk games and a wild mouse coaster, but I think Animal Kingdom kind of needed an area of the park like that.

Yep! let's put in 10 thrill rides and rename the park to Animal Sixflags Kingdom...
