Have just booked 5 nights at AKL in a standard room, how does this compare to other Deluxe resort and how do you go about trying to get upgraded to a Savannah room....was not available at time of booking (have special rate as travel agent)

We stayed at the Animal Kingdom Lodge in 2003 and we loved it. Our room was beautiful (kind of reminded me of a room at the Polynesian) and we had a savanah view. We booked a Savanah view so I'm not sure how you would go about an upgrade, maybe when you check in you could see if there is anything available. If you can't get a Savanah view room, there are tons of spots around the resort and grounds that have viewing areas where you can see the animals. We loved it and thought it was great! When our daughter is older we would like to stay there again, when we went in 2003 it was just the 2 of us! I think it stands up to the other deluxe resorts. The restaurants are top notch and the resort itself is beautiful, with a great gift shop and pool. Hope this was helpful!

I guess the options are to call every day or to ask when checking in.

Don't worry if you don't get a savannah view room - it certainly is nice being able to sit on the balcony to watch the animals but there are plenty of places to watch around the hotel. In either case you will have a great time at a fantastic resort!

lol, i couldnt get any for july or august and i was lookin in april!

That definitely wasnt early enough for july/august. It can be real tough to get what you want at the resort.

Like others have said, theres quite a few places to view animals. I would call maybe once a week, and also check if they offer an upgrade at checkin.

My personal opinion is that the difference in cost for Savannah view vs standard view isnt worth the money. Maybe it is if you are in the "center" Savannah, but for the view we had, it was not. Overall, the resort is very nice and does a very good job of making you feel secluded, which is what I really like.

I have stayed in a Savanna room (deluxe room) a few times and every time was wonderful! This year we are staying in a 1 bedroom villa.....I cant wait!

Every time we stayed there we asked for Zebra trail and it was fantastic.....Giraffes all day long. (I don't know why they call it zebra trail tho when you see giraffes)

You are going to really enjoy it. :)

We stayed there last week and we absolutely loved the resort. I've visited all WDW resorts and this is my favorite one. Although I hope people keep avoiding it so we can keep getting AP discounts so we can continue to stay there . I too wouldn't pay any extra to have a different view. And our room was about as far away from the lobby as you can possibly get and we were still less than 5 minutes of walking away. I was shocked how easy it is to get from one end of the resort to the other. So originally I was upset when I saw how far away we were, but it ended up being a total non issue.

it depends on crowds and whats av. but i highly doubt it, sorry. i love animal kingdom .savannah view is amazing, however a standard room is fine since you really dont spend that much time in your room, as well as there is a viewing area

We stayed at the AKLV this past March and even though we were facing the pool, it was still a fantastic room. The bathroom was HUGE!!! and the headboard on the bed in the master bedroom had a great carving of Simba and Nala on it. Kitchen was very roomy too. But didn't use it much, :D, however, I think no matter where your room is you won't be dissappointed. Enjoy.

Actually you should keep watching and checking your dates on the TA site travel agent room booking engine. If one pops up, call Disney and ask them to switch you to that room catagory. If concierge opens up, go for it! It's the best!

This is my favorite deluxe. Good Luck!
