Definitely plan on spending some time exploring. Theres quite a lot to see and do there and you will find yourself just walking around for along time. Its a great resort

All the restaurants are delicious. And the CS is good as well. Definitely do Boma for breakfast, its great.

I have only stayed at AKL for one night, but loved it! It is a beautiful place with an excellent pool. Definitely check out Boma for any meal--the food is fantastic. Make sure to spend some time exploring--there are many African artifacts scattered throughout the resort which are very interesting to see. Have fun!

AKL tips

Sit outside for storytime with the 'kids':lookaroun and enjoy.
Go out to watch the animals and talk to the guides at Arusha Rock (they know EVERYTHING!!)- ask about snakes in WDW, the animals' behaviors, caretakers, etc.
Take a meal from Mara to eat by the pool.
Oh, did I mention the bubbling spa and massage/fitness center???:dazzle:
Definitely dinner (prime rib) in Boma's:slurp:(breakfast is good too)
Morning coffee on your terrace while the giraffes eat breakfast:sohappy:
Fireplace in the lobby after dinner.(sigh)

I CAN'T WAIT !!! :sohappy:

I have a tip not mentioned yet.

When exploring the hotel and looking at the animals go out on to the outdoor staircases. You can get some excellent views of the animals, often better than the rooms.

I also want to agree with the people who have said to eat at Boma and use the nightvision goggles. There is so much to do and see at the hotel we actually spent an entire day our last trip just exploring the hotel.

PS: The animals WILL be out if is rains. They like it. So throw on your poncho and enjoy!

The morning coffee on your terrace and watching the animals is just incredible. I did that a few times when I was down there. So relaxing and its just unbelievable.

Two words: ZEBRA DOMES! :sohappy:

Two words to go with those: "YUM, YUM!"

(Zebra domes are these incredibly delicious little desserts at Boma. They have a cookie base, a mousse-like filling and a coating of white chocolate with drizzles of milk chocolate. I almost drooled on the keyboard just typing this!)

Go on an evening and listen to CMs telling stories about Africa, either outside around the fire, or in the sunset savannah room off the lobby (can't remember the proper name).
There is a parade with musical instruments around the lobby for kids to be involved in.
As well as the table service meals, the house salad at Mara is lovely.
There are some good framed prints for sale by an artist called Larry Dotson - but we bought an unframed one (got it signed, as he was there) and had it framed to match our decor - cheaper.

Both pools? When did they add another pool?

Here is my hit list:

  1. Walk down all of the trails. There are art displays at each hallway intersection.
  2. At the end of the main trail there are outside stairwells which give you a great view of the savannahs. Make sure you have you camera with you.
  3. Eat at Boma at least once. It is a great experience.
  4. After dinner grab a drink from Victoria Falls bar and sit at the indoor fireplace and relax.
  5. Go down to the firepit and enjoy the fire and enjoy the storytelling.
  6. Expolre around the pool. There is a savannah viewing area in the far corner. There is also a flamingo viewing area.
  7. Go up to the 4th floor and go out on the suspended bridge that crosses over the main lobby. Bring your camera.
I really love AKL. We have stayed there 5 times and will probably be there on the next trip. My best advice is to take some time and explore the resort. Out of all the resorts at WDW I think AKL has the most to offer.

The new Villa has it's own pool and of course you have the orginial pool.

I can't wait for Sept.

I agree with those that say stick around and enjoy the resort. We are planning a few days just for the resort...

Yes, but will you be able to pool hop? AKL pool is currently off limits to pool hopping even for DVC members?

I was under the impression that AKLV and AKL were being built as separate resorts not like WL/WLV or BC/BCV. The new pool at AKLV is not being built as a quiet pool it is going to be a feature pool with a slide. Basically AKLV is completely self supporting.

It would be nice if you could use either pool.

Either way it is a wonderful resort!!! Enjoy your visit.

I heard from several sources AKL guests can use either pool. However DVC members from other resorts will not be able to use the AKL pools. I read this on a site and also asked a ADR Disney CM.

EDIT: Here is one link about the 2 pools :

Jiko and Boma have been our favorite meals on property. Jiko is fantastic (done it with and without kids) and Boma is great for the family (buffet)
