This is what happens when you have a bunch of businessmen running a creative company.

The problem is not a businessman running a creative company. The problem is a lack of respect for the medium of themed entertainment and those who work in it. There would be nothing wrong with Iger delegating you people who know and appreciate themed entertainment, nor would that be a poor business decision.

The man easily could have said Radiator Springs Racers if it needed to be one of his own IP offspring. He seemed pretty enamored with Pirates in Shanghai too.

Nothing per say has prohibited the imagineers from producing another Pirates. Yes there is an IP mandate, but not a produce crap rides mandate.

More he just doesn’t care. I don’t have a favorite football team because I don’t care about football. It’s okay to not be interested in something.

His franchise mandate is an automatic stifling of creativity from the beginning and the introduction of additional cooks in the kitchen, all to please people who don’t really care.

You're right. Iger would do well to delegate to creative people who appreciate themed entertainment. But Disney increasingly doesn't have those kinds of people anymore and the people who are creative keep seeing their creativity limited to whats within the "Iger IP Toybox" instead of being given freedom to explore their own imaginations. But I think this only comes about because of the bean-counters and profit-minded men leading the charge. Disney functioned best when it was run by a creative and business man (Walt/Roy, Eisner/Wells).

Well, Iger is banning Nexflix ads on any Disney owned property. (ABC, ESPN, FX, Channel 7 in LA, etc.), so he is somewhat smart. Why advertise the competition.

Does Netflix even advertise? Can’t say I’ve ever seen anything from them in any capacity.

I'd like to really honestly believe he "gets" the parks... but virtually none of the actions they've taken under his tenure reflect that. For someone who's favorite attraction is an IP-less boat ride that was peak imagineering for its day, he has yet to inspire his people to make anything even remotely similar.

He chose Jay “I openly hate theme parks” Rasulo over Matt Ouimet. He immediately forbid attractions like Expedition Everest despite its huge success. He spent billions on a scheme to not build rides that has failed spectacularly. Costs continue to soar out of control. What exactly has he done that shows a strong understanding?

Look, I'm going to have many if any supports of this point of view with all the uber negative anything Disney has done post 2000 is the worst crowd that permeate the forums. However, Iger must be doing something right as the numbers keep going up. I would not call it dumb luck or in spite of all his horrible decisions, people still come. Guests have a multitude of options and they keep choosing Disney parks to spend at least part of their entertainment dollars.

I'm not a huge fan of the all IP mandate as some of my favorite rides are non IP even fairly recent examples like Mystic Manor. But that does work for the average guest. My cousin and her family are coming to Disneyland this weekend. They come once every few years. I asked what their most looking forward to. The answer was Star Wars and Marvel because that is what they and their kid love. They like the classic attractions, but things like GE and Guardians are the reason they are visiting. They are buying a lightsaber and meeting Spiderman. That is why they are flying in and that is why they are coming to Disneyland over the other theme parks in the area. For a lot of people that is why they choose to come.

You may not like it, but Iger has brought huge shareholder value and much of that is based on the popularity and profitability of the theme park business.

I think this would be more accurately stated as "not doing much of anything with the domestic parks."

Most of the attractive economic growth in the world has not been taking place in California, and only slightly more has happened in Florida. His decision making has reflected that.
