Trip Report And At Last I See the (rivers of) Light: A Much Too Short Trip Report *COMPLETED*

Hello Humans!

For those just joining, my name is Nicole. (Sorry if you were expecting Buddy Boil!) :p

I am just a wee bit toooooo obsessed with Disney World and all things Disney, but is there ever really too much of a good thing? I’m just one of “those people”. The kind that doesn’t understand the need to travel anywhere else on this planet besides Disney, the kind that has more Disney clothes than work attire, the kind that stalks cast members instagram profiles… but we’ll gloss over those more intimate details. :p

I just returned from an extremely short trip to the World. And although short, I still feel the pain. It’s like when someone loses a limb, such as an arm or a leg, and they say they can still feel it. That is exactly how I feel about the removal of my Mickey ears. I have phantom limb pain from taking off my Mickey ear headbands. The ears are off, and the pain real. You mean to tell me I can't wear my rose gold ears to go grocery shopping? What kind of world do we live in?

After throwing a temper tantrum on the ground to my fiancé, complaining he doesn’t love me because he’s dragging me to Hawaii for our honeymoon, I decided the more mature, adult way to deal with post Disney depression is to share my story with you fine people. So let’s begin.

Who: Myself and my Bestie (we went in 2013 and 2014 previously)

49378180014_zpsf7106299.jpg

Where: All Star Music (We nicknamed this trip the budget trip. No park hoppers, no dining reservations, no dining plan, carryon luggage only so we wouldn’t come home with a bazillion souvenirs. A budget in Disney… that didn’t work so well. You mean that green Mickey lighting up was racking up my credit card? WHO KNEW?! :)

When: Friday, January 19th to Tuesday January 23rd

Why: Why not? The best way to escape wedding planning is Disney planning! :p

Jan 19th
Our flight wasn’t until 7 PM out of Newark, New Jersey. I currently live right outside of Philadelphia with Joe, go Eagles :p but it was easier for me to get to Newark than my friend to get to Philly. And me flying alone is never a good idea. I once found myself in an airport closest. Yeah, no idea. I decided to work a half day instead of using a vacation day, because I’m trying to bank all my days for my honeymoon and secretly another Disney trip come fall. Don’t tell anyone. It can be our little secret. Hardy har har! ;);)

D35DFF1D-41BC-4689-9DAD-2B17DFBBBB9A_zpswzqvgktd.jpg

Did not sleep a wink the night before, not sure if it was the excitement, the nerves about my carryon being TSA compliant, or the fact that I was fighting off laryngitis. Ursula, take my legs but give me back my voice!!!!! Some people were too ecstatic I was speechless, cough JOE cough. I could not rub in his face that I WAS GOING TO DISNEY WORLD.

09037385-1176-4C0C-B8A4-77392357D6D5_zpsd8bjk3i3.jpg

Wore my little mermaid leggings to work because I am a child. I work for an orthodontic team and having all my patients ask me about going to Disney World just amped up my excitement level. My age category is definitely 8-12 because that is who I most relate too. HA!

Clocked out early and made my long trek to North Jersey. Got back in record time, must have been those pixie dust fumes in my gas tank. :p My friend’s brother was our designated Uber and I’m sure he kicked himself for offering to drive us two crazy loons.

Strapped on my magic band and admired the beauty of all that is Mickey’s outline. I love the new shape, didn’t think I would! It actually looks like a watch, IT’S MICKEY TIME.

On the ride there, we received a text message that our room was ready! Don’t judge me that I never deleted my 2016 room notification message.

My friend and I had been joking all week that we’d be put in country. NOT THE COUNTRY BOOT! And lo and behold, there we were. She called up Disney to see if they could switch us to jazz, we’d been practicing our jazz hands for months! The cast member laughed, and apologized that the resort was fully booked; we could maybe switch our room later on during the trip. TOO BAD OUR TRIP WAS SO SHORT. :(

A655C602-A5D5-4A21-BAC9-1D3766C55FE1_zpsybmczybb.jpg

Nothing screams Disney World more than a pair of country boots! Am I right?! :p

We got through security quickly and made our way to the gate. Upon arrival, our flight is delayed. From 7 PM to 8:30 PM. WHAT! Lose an hour and a half of Disney time!? I cannot deal.

The terminal was packed. There was not a seat to be found. We circled round and round, myself rolling my carryon like I’d had one too many drinks. It’s hard steering a suitcase! We were antsy and then it hit us. One little spark of inspiration. LET’S SEE IF THE EARLIER FLIGHT HAS ANY SEATS AVAILABLE.

Turns out, it did! And for a mere fee of $75.00 each, we could arrive in Disney at 8:30 PM. We went back and forth… if we got there early we could eat in the food court, we’d have more Disney time, we could get to sleep earlier and be less cranky for parking opening. Budget trip my behind.

30F3D1FD-FDB8-47BA-B11E-F3F6F934CA06_zpsudxj6i6x.jpg

We were soon on the plane, vowing to not tell a soul we paid $75 to arrive in Disney an hour and a half earlier. Whoops!

The flight attendants asked if we could be the heroes of the flight, and of course we obliged.

Throw the plane door out the window and save all the innocent lives on board? Ain’t no thing for Princess Nicole. Watch out Mr. Incredible. I’m coming for your costume.

Touched down in Orlando much earlier than expected… money comes and goes but Disney memories are forever. That’s what I keep telling myself at least!

The Magical Express area was dead, and we hoped we didn’t just miss the bus. Turns out the bus was waiting right outside for our arrival. What great service! I don’t know if I credit this to the fact that I’m now a hero? Hopped aboard that big beautiful red beauty of transportation and prepared myself for my ride back home. The butterflies were fluttering about in my stomach, I could not stop giggling, and I felt it deep down to my core that I was back in my happy place. You know that warm fuzzy feeling of being on property? That moment where you know your trip to come is filled with endless possibilities? Don't ever take waiting in the Magical Express line for granted!

Would our room be the very last room in the very back of our resort? Did they separate us from the general public on purpose because we are certifiably insane? Would my jazz hands feel betrayed about nothing getting their moment to shine?

The birds were so awesome!!!!! Do you think they were from the “Flights of Wonder” show? Have absolutely loved your very enthusiastic trip report! Love that you take in and enjoy all the Disney details!!! Thanks for sharing. Such a fun trip 😊

I think this is a new separate show! I saw Flights of Wonder back in November with Joe and I don't remember macaws! It was seriously awesome! Maybe they will use them in the new bird show themed to UP! :)
Thank you for reading :)

I’ve seen them on Amazon! (Only because I bought the wooden sign that matches it for a friend at work last year!) You can prime it and have it in your life in two days!

This is dangerous! LOL I may have already spent my tax refund before even receiving it :p

After spending a good amount of time with our new besties, Mickey and Minnie, we decided we had enough time to make it to the Lion King show. Of course we got sidetracked by PhotoPass. Are you sick of these yet?! LOL

I love that he captured the bird! This PhotoPass photographer was awesome. And again, I kick myself for not getting his name! Even though he had a few families in line, he took his time with each and every group. We asked for magic shots, and got some I had never seen before!

I always feel like such a nerd doing the magic shot poses, but they come out sooooo cute! Where else can you get such magical photographs! I think we went a teeny tiny tad bit overboard this trip. :p

The Festival of the Lion King is always at the top of my Disney Must Do list. The energetic tumble monkeys, the emotional music from the film, and the vibrant colorful costumes, it's a show that makes me laugh as well as cry. It's a true Disney Parks classic. I am blown away with each and every showing. I could watch this show day after day, and still bawl my eyes out. Can you feel the love tonight? Why yes, yes I can. And it's these in these heart shaped tears dripping down my face.

Sometimes, though, Must Do's are meant to be broken.

Somehow, instead of heading to Africa, we stayed put in Discovery Island. We ended up at Nomad Lounge. Any place with the word "lounge" is sure to be a favorite. Time you enjoy wasting, is not wasted time. :)

We relaxed in the most comfortable setting known to theme park history. They might be taking away benches in EPCOT, but they are giving you CUSHIONS and PILLOWS at Nomad Lounge. We sat right above the water, and relished in the perfect views.

I tried to scan the menu to see what the heck I ordered, but my memory fails me. I really need to start taking some sort of notes :p I just remember the Cast Member being leery about giving me a straw because of the peppercorns. I promised I would be careful and it I started choking, my friend knew CPR. What a way to go, in my most favorite place on the planet, mere hours away from seeing Rivers of Light. OH THE HORROR.

We ordered poutine sans meat, and since I'm a vegetarian, the cast member put the gravy on the side. Basically, it's French fries. I tried googling the difference between poutine and fries, and it has something to do with how the cheese is melted? I dunno, maybe I'm a "dumb American" but I don't taste the difference!

Time for waters :p

Nomad Lounge was such a hidden gem! The ambiance and the service were impeccable. Sitting outside on the deck, while the breeze softly blew and the sun made it's slow descent, it was the perfect spot to just sip and savor the moment. The menu offered such an array of options that cannot be found anywhere else! The international beers and spirits added to it's authenticity. Is this real life?!

It is a cozy escape from a crowded theme park, and I swear I forgot for a good while that I was even in Animal Kingdom. The atmosphere offers serenity and relaxation, in a THEME PARK. It was beautiful, and I will most definitely return!

We had a newfound pep in our step, and I bid farewell to my pillow. Until we meet again!

We noticed all these birds just chilling in the trees! Can you build me a nest, I want to move it! :p

The family before us had a little girl, and she ran up to Pocahontas and asked where Maui was. :hilarious::hilarious::hilarious: Poor Pocahontas! She scolded her parents for not letting her watch the better of the Disney films. I died! I love Moana, but she will never be Poco! Don't chu worry girl, my kids will watch ALL the films. :p

We then decided to go walk around Pandora, just so I could see it in it's night time glory. We checked Navi River Journey but the line was still sitting at around 60 minutes. My friend said she'd wait, but of course I needed to get to Rivers of Light a good 45 minutes early. :p I WOULDN'T RISK IT! We meandered a little, I took this wonderful picture with who knows what, and then we skeedaddled!

Oh come on now, you're not dumb. Being Canadian I LOVE poutine. Crispy fries topped with cheese curds (or squeeky cheese, as I/we like to call it) and a good gravy. It's the cheese and gravy that does it, if one or both are only so so, you only get a so so poutine. The hot gravy slightly melts the cheese so it still holds it's shape and squeekiness. Great, now I'm making myself hungry.

Yeah the gravy on the side really creates a conundrum here. It’s not really poutine if you don’t have the hot gravy creating the perfect amount of meltiness to the cheese. Add some house cut fries made from Manitoba potatoes and it’s perfection. :joyfull:

I totally need that! When I was really young we took a trip to FL and went to Cypress Gardens and Weeki Wacche Springs. After that, my goal in life was to be a mermaid. Then the movie Splash came out and there were mermaid toys everywhere. I spent so many hours squeeling like Madison did in the movie. All I wanted to be was a mermaid for the first 6 years of my life LOL. I was one of the few kids that HATED Disney's The Little Mermaid because I would always watch the original mermaid cartoon that no one else seems to remember. I didn't like the ending where Ariel ended up with the prince because she should've been turned into sea foam. Yeah I was weird like that :)
I know the movie you're talking about, my grandma had it. One time my cousins and I were watching it and making comments about the mermaids having no tops on and my grandma got mad and shut the movie off :joyfull:

You can never have too many Magic Shots :joyfull:. I can't make up my mind on which I like best. I'm torn between the one with Timon, Pumbaa and Simba, and the one with Jiminy Cricket. They both look really cool. I completely forgot, but where in AK is the Pocahontas meet and greet? Is it just me, or does she look not that Native American? Btw, good job picking "Colors of the Wind". And those doughnuts look so heavenly! Where did you get them? And now the moment we've all been waiting for, River of Lights!

Nicole what are you doing to us, while you have been waiting all this time to see ROL we have all been waiting for you to see it too and you leave us hanging

Lol I promise to get this trip report done this weekend! I have zero plans! Been crazy with work and I really want to dedicate some time to accurately explain how I feel about ROL ;)

It’s almost midnight! - soooooo. - where’s your commitment!

Come on!

Lol I am Cinderella and lost my shoe ;) I am trying to finish this before you go!! This weekend I should be able to update! I am sorry!! :p

I had a feeling you would leave us hanging! Weeki Wachee has mermaid camps. I used to swim on a Master's synchronized swim team and some of my teammates went. They had a blast...I'm still kicking myself for not joining them!
Ahhh how cool! I want to go to a mermaid camp! And sorry for leaving you hanging, I needed to make like Sleeping Beauty and go to bed :p

Unfortunately the gravy wasn’t vegetarian so maybe I didn’t get a true tasting of poutine. :( I wasn’t a fan of the cheese, so basically just had fries. I trust your judgement LOL

Yes, I think without the gravy the cheese was a weird texture and I was not a fan! Maybe I am just a French fry girl after all. :) will have to see if they ever have poutine with mushroom gravy instead! Air now I’ll be good with ketchup LOL

Ahh what a funny memory! What risqué mermaid film! ;)

Omg, I LITERALLY dreammmm about these donuts!!! I am counting down the days until I can enjoy one of these luscious beauties at each and every park!!! The pink ones are to die for!!! This picture has me drooling. The amazing goodness is jumping off of my screen...Seriously, stop it!!! :hungry::inlove:

Oh man...43 days and counting....!!! :D

You will be there soooo soon!! Enjoy your countdown! I am trying to convince Joe to do a long weekend before our wedding but things are so crazy. I want to be Disney planning! The donuts were huge!!! I am craving one right about now. Somehow donuts and coffee before ROL sounds extremely more exciting than coffee and donuts at work currently. :( :( eat one for me when you’re there!!

I have to hear about ROL!!!!!

Those magic "baywatch" shots were Awesome!!! and Nomad Lounge looks awesome!

I will get there I promise! I just don’t want to rush my post so I will try and get something done this weekend! I am determined to finish this report!! And those pictures crack me up they were so much fun to take :)

I am trying to look at the map and figure it where the heck we met Poco. It was down a pathway somewhere in Discoveryland I want to say? I cannot for the life of me find it on the app! :(

And the donuts and coffee were right outside the seating to Rivers of Light. Again, I am looking at the map on the app and nothing is ringing a bell. And of course my pictures are dark and blurry!
Wait! it’s the royal anandapur tea company! Yes! Go there!!! The donuts and coffee were amazing! Although I don’t think I needed anymore sugar or caffeine when I was so amped up for Rivers! :p you only live once right!

I'm fairly certain the Pocahontas meet is right before the bridge to Dinoland, across the path from Isle of Java. Take a right at the Tree of Life and head towards Dinoland. Pocahontas's pathway is conveniently located next to the restrooms. Lol

Ahh what a funny memory! What risqué mermaid film! ;)

:(:( eat one for me when you’re there!!

I will get there I promise! I just don’t want to rush my post so I will try and get something done this weekend! I am determined to finish this report!! And those pictures crack me up they were so much fun to take :)

A long Disney weekend sounds like a good cure for wedding planning stress, or having to eat donuts at work, or a stubbed toe, or rush hour traffic...:p!! Take your pick, Disney cures all lol!!! I will definitely have a donut for you, one has your name on it girl, I’ll snap it’s glorious little picture for ya!!

Oh and the little girl mistaking Pocahontas for Moana?!? Hilarious!!!
