Trip Report And At Last I See the (rivers of) Light: A Much Too Short Trip Report *COMPLETED*

Hello Humans!

For those just joining, my name is Nicole. (Sorry if you were expecting Buddy Boil!) :p

I am just a wee bit toooooo obsessed with Disney World and all things Disney, but is there ever really too much of a good thing? I’m just one of “those people”. The kind that doesn’t understand the need to travel anywhere else on this planet besides Disney, the kind that has more Disney clothes than work attire, the kind that stalks cast members instagram profiles… but we’ll gloss over those more intimate details. :p

I just returned from an extremely short trip to the World. And although short, I still feel the pain. It’s like when someone loses a limb, such as an arm or a leg, and they say they can still feel it. That is exactly how I feel about the removal of my Mickey ears. I have phantom limb pain from taking off my Mickey ear headbands. The ears are off, and the pain real. You mean to tell me I can't wear my rose gold ears to go grocery shopping? What kind of world do we live in?

After throwing a temper tantrum on the ground to my fiancé, complaining he doesn’t love me because he’s dragging me to Hawaii for our honeymoon, I decided the more mature, adult way to deal with post Disney depression is to share my story with you fine people. So let’s begin.

Who: Myself and my Bestie (we went in 2013 and 2014 previously)

49378180014_zpsf7106299.jpg

Where: All Star Music (We nicknamed this trip the budget trip. No park hoppers, no dining reservations, no dining plan, carryon luggage only so we wouldn’t come home with a bazillion souvenirs. A budget in Disney… that didn’t work so well. You mean that green Mickey lighting up was racking up my credit card? WHO KNEW?! :)

When: Friday, January 19th to Tuesday January 23rd

Why: Why not? The best way to escape wedding planning is Disney planning! :p

Jan 19th
Our flight wasn’t until 7 PM out of Newark, New Jersey. I currently live right outside of Philadelphia with Joe, go Eagles :p but it was easier for me to get to Newark than my friend to get to Philly. And me flying alone is never a good idea. I once found myself in an airport closest. Yeah, no idea. I decided to work a half day instead of using a vacation day, because I’m trying to bank all my days for my honeymoon and secretly another Disney trip come fall. Don’t tell anyone. It can be our little secret. Hardy har har! ;);)

D35DFF1D-41BC-4689-9DAD-2B17DFBBBB9A_zpswzqvgktd.jpg

Did not sleep a wink the night before, not sure if it was the excitement, the nerves about my carryon being TSA compliant, or the fact that I was fighting off laryngitis. Ursula, take my legs but give me back my voice!!!!! Some people were too ecstatic I was speechless, cough JOE cough. I could not rub in his face that I WAS GOING TO DISNEY WORLD.

09037385-1176-4C0C-B8A4-77392357D6D5_zpsd8bjk3i3.jpg

Wore my little mermaid leggings to work because I am a child. I work for an orthodontic team and having all my patients ask me about going to Disney World just amped up my excitement level. My age category is definitely 8-12 because that is who I most relate too. HA!

Clocked out early and made my long trek to North Jersey. Got back in record time, must have been those pixie dust fumes in my gas tank. :p My friend’s brother was our designated Uber and I’m sure he kicked himself for offering to drive us two crazy loons.

Strapped on my magic band and admired the beauty of all that is Mickey’s outline. I love the new shape, didn’t think I would! It actually looks like a watch, IT’S MICKEY TIME.

On the ride there, we received a text message that our room was ready! Don’t judge me that I never deleted my 2016 room notification message.

My friend and I had been joking all week that we’d be put in country. NOT THE COUNTRY BOOT! And lo and behold, there we were. She called up Disney to see if they could switch us to jazz, we’d been practicing our jazz hands for months! The cast member laughed, and apologized that the resort was fully booked; we could maybe switch our room later on during the trip. TOO BAD OUR TRIP WAS SO SHORT. :(

A655C602-A5D5-4A21-BAC9-1D3766C55FE1_zpsybmczybb.jpg

Nothing screams Disney World more than a pair of country boots! Am I right?! :p

We got through security quickly and made our way to the gate. Upon arrival, our flight is delayed. From 7 PM to 8:30 PM. WHAT! Lose an hour and a half of Disney time!? I cannot deal.

The terminal was packed. There was not a seat to be found. We circled round and round, myself rolling my carryon like I’d had one too many drinks. It’s hard steering a suitcase! We were antsy and then it hit us. One little spark of inspiration. LET’S SEE IF THE EARLIER FLIGHT HAS ANY SEATS AVAILABLE.

Turns out, it did! And for a mere fee of $75.00 each, we could arrive in Disney at 8:30 PM. We went back and forth… if we got there early we could eat in the food court, we’d have more Disney time, we could get to sleep earlier and be less cranky for parking opening. Budget trip my behind.

30F3D1FD-FDB8-47BA-B11E-F3F6F934CA06_zpsudxj6i6x.jpg

We were soon on the plane, vowing to not tell a soul we paid $75 to arrive in Disney an hour and a half earlier. Whoops!

The flight attendants asked if we could be the heroes of the flight, and of course we obliged.

AA3055E7-8240-41C0-8298-BB68923B1957_zpslz8o7quv.jpg

Throw the plane door out the window and save all the innocent lives on board? Ain’t no thing for Princess Nicole. Watch out Mr. Incredible. I’m coming for your costume.

Heroes need their nourishment, so cheers to the first food pictures of the trip!

Touched down in Orlando much earlier than expected… money comes and goes but Disney memories are forever. That’s what I keep telling myself at least!

The Magical Express area was dead, and we hoped we didn’t just miss the bus. Turns out the bus was waiting right outside for our arrival. What great service! I don’t know if I credit this to the fact that I’m now a hero? Hopped aboard that big beautiful red beauty of transportation and prepared myself for my ride back home. The butterflies were fluttering about in my stomach, I could not stop giggling, and I felt it deep down to my core that I was back in my happy place. You know that warm fuzzy feeling of being on property? That moment where you know your trip to come is filled with endless possibilities? Don't ever take waiting in the Magical Express line for granted!

5EB2F766-DDB3-41C8-941B-01F1245F5FE6_zpsfppgeych.jpg

Would our room be the very last room in the very back of our resort? Did they separate us from the general public on purpose because we are certifiably insane? Would my jazz hands feel betrayed about nothing getting their moment to shine?
:)

I had to sit down because I really thought I might pass out from impressiveness of this land. And why not sample the refreshments while I'm at it?

I had the Night Blossom frozen beverage and it was TOOOO DIEEE FOR. Spectacular views and good drinks? Could it get any better?

I sipped and savored the moment. My friend counted down the seconds until we could get in the queue for Flight of Passage. I stared dumbfounded out into the abyss.

6965F554-C696-4AEC-96C9-E8D272269FC5_zpskg8rnwd0.jpg

And then it was time. A brand new experience! FLIGHT OF PASSAGE. I had heard sooooo much, it was the greatest ride that ever existed, it put Soarin' to shame, it was actually worth waiting in 3 plus hour long lines. It was the ride to end all rides, the earth stopped and stood still as you rode. Okay, I'm getting carried away, but I did not hear anything but the utmost praise for this attraction and I WAS FINALLY GOING ON IT MYSELF!!

9F918E34-D0F2-49EA-8F28-EFAA9CDFC1D3_zpsipns5fen.jpg

And the verdict?

IT WAS SENSATIONAL, REMARKABLE, MIND-BLOWING, JAW-DROPPING, STUPEFYING, ASTONISHING, AND EVERY OTHER ADJECTIVE THAT I CANNOT CURRENTLY THINK OF. It was such a WELL DONE attraction. From the details in the queue, to the pre-show where we were waving our arms around like madwomen, to the actual ride vehicle, to the sights witnessed flying high on a banshee, it took my breath away.

Before take off, when your face shows up on the screen below, my friend and I could not stop cracking up about the view of all our double chins. BETTER LAY OFF THOSE CRONUTS. Our whole room was laughing because we could not stop cackling. I almost peed my pants and prayed my face would leave that screen shortly.

The ride itself was amazing, and I don't want to give anything away! Plus whatever I have to say will not do it justice. :) At one point I turned my head just to see how on earth this was constructed, and it was crazy to see all the people! I remember looking at the building plans on line of all the different floors and loading areas and MY GOSH is it cool! I am sad I missed .2 seconds of flying over the Valley of M'oara but I had to see for myself how it worked!

9D455B32-9009-470B-9BDE-34CC389CF426_zps9scaidjd.jpg

And just like that, I became Avatar's number one fan. :p

Flying atop a banshee is a tough job, so we decided to reward ourselves with some lunch! I had been dreaming about Satu'li Canteen since I read they offered a tofu bowl, and I had been watching dining reviews nonstop as I walked on my treadmill every night. Hey, it's great motivation. :p

I got a bowl with red and sweet potato hash, and my friend had the cheeseburger pods. We decided to split the chocolate cake.

We tried our hardest to eat slowly, to just surrender to the relaxation inside this mess hall, and to savor each and every bite. The portions were large, and the food was delicious. I kept pinching myself, just to make sure this was real.

Pandora was all I ever dreamed of and more. It surpassed all my expectations. We chatted back and forth about how amazing this new area was. As we sat, we checked the wait time for River Journey but it was at a steady 2+ hours. We vowed to keep checking throughout the day. If it was meant to be, it would happen.

I was in a blissful food coma. Maybe I really was dead after all. Thanks Joe Rohde.

I'm glad that you loved Pandora, it really is a very special place and shows that it doesn't matter if you've seen or liked the movie at all, it stands on its own merits.
Also love that you are wearing a t-shirt for a show that you haven't even seen yet!

Great video in the empty seating area for ROL!

I too am glad that you got to see Pandora and loved it

My day will come too...

Max

Pandora is beautiful and your day will come! Nothing you read about or pictures you look at will do it justice until you see if with your own two eyes! It'll be a great feeling! :)

I’m glad you loved it and I did say no photos really do it any justice - FOP is something else an amazing ride can you imagine what can be done with rides in another 10 years & night blossom - yum!

I agree, it's something you must experience to believe! FOP makes me super excited for what's to come with Guardians and even Tron and Ratatouille even though they are clones!

I'm glad that you loved Pandora, it really is a very special place and shows that it doesn't matter if you've seen or liked the movie at all, it stands on its own merits.
Also love that you are wearing a t-shirt for a show that you haven't even seen yet!

It does stand on its own merit that is for sure! I don't think I'll ever appreciate the Avatar movies but I do love the land!
LOL.. Rivers of Light is my baby :inlove:

Upon leaving Pandora, we spot a lonely PhotoPass man walking in the distance. A Photopass man not utilizing his camera? This cannot be! We jog to catch up to him and insist he take some magic shots for us. No one was around, and we end up having our own private photo shoot!

We were laughing so hard, and the Photopass Photographer was laughing right along with us. If he thought we were insane, he never let it on. :p

Next up on our agenda, was to head to Rafiki's Planet Watch. I am obsessed with pigs, and I remember them being here when I visited way back when with Joe. My friend had never been to this area of the park, she didn't even know the Wildlife Express Train existed! Some Disney pro she is. :p

Of course, we grabbed snacks for the train ride over. A pickle and a banana. The cast member who checked us out must have thought something was wrong with us. :)

It wasn't the Hogwarts Express, it was the Pigwarts Express. :p And traveling onwards was not the "boy who lived" but the "girl who loved." The girl who loved Animal Kingdom with all her heart, to the very core of her being.

Have you guessed it? The girl is me. :p

What's better than a pickle and train ride? :p Super random! I always watched DisneyLAND vlogs and heard about how amazing the pickles were, but I did not know you could order single pickles at Disney World. The more ya know!

I tell Joe all the time that one day I will be the proud owner of my very own pig. I love them so much! I think I will wait til after he says "I do" before I bring one home. :p Muahhahah, don't tell him! I even convinced him that instead of favors at our wedding, to just donate the money we would have spent to an animal sanctuary. If I cannot have my very own pig one day, then I am moving to Florida and working at Animal Kingdom. It's my calling! Who's taking me in? @blgauger @dclfan ???

We then decided to ride the Wildlife Train back and forth. And back and forth. And back and forth once more. It was the equivalent to a mid day nap. :p

We disembark, and with no real place to go, decide to wander.

I don't know if it was because this whole trip was kind of just "going with the flow" or if it was the ambiance of Animal Kingdom, but I was having the most amazing time. It felt freeing to just slowly take in the small details, to laugh about our random encounters, and to snack whenever we saw something that struck our fancy. I could spend hours in AK, just staring at the beautiful details, watching the animals, and reveling at the entertainment.

I had a minor "blonde moment" because I stopped to ask my friend if she thought Mickey and Minnie actually visited these places to take these photos or if it was just Photoshop. My friend burst out laughing and this dad behind us said he was wondering the same thing. :p

This meet and greet was awesome! Mickey and Minnie spent so much time with each family, and the pictures are the cutest ever! I thought they would see my Rivers of Light shirt, and the alarm bells would sound, and they'd try to get us in and out as quickly as possible!

No alarms were to be heard, and we really hit it off! We chatted it up like the old pals we were. I told Mickey I loved the collection of photos they had! They had been everywhere! Now if only I could get to Anaheim, and Tokyo, and Paris, and Shanghai, and Hong Kong...

I think this may have been my most favorite meet and greet to date!

Can't you just see the happiness radiating out of my face?! We are all kids in Disney. :)

I did not want to say goodbye! I wanted to move in, and be the third wheel in all their future globetrotting photographs!

You cannot be forever young, but you never have to lose the kid in you.

:p
Idk how I got behind again, but I did. I was really impressed with your dance moves lol, and was blown away with the macaws. I've never seen them before, but will keep my eye out next time. Appreciate your appreciation for Rafiki's Planet Watch. It's always the first thing we do at AK, mostly because they only do stuff at the animal hospital in the morning. And I think an animal sanctuary would be a great idea! Safari Mickey and Minnie might be my favorite. Glad you got to see them!

Nicole, I passed by this shop and decided you need this:

I totally need that! When I was really young we took a trip to FL and went to Cypress Gardens and Weeki Wacche Springs. After that, my goal in life was to be a mermaid. Then the movie Splash came out and there were mermaid toys everywhere. I spent so many hours squeeling like Madison did in the movie. All I wanted to be was a mermaid for the first 6 years of my life LOL. I was one of the few kids that HATED Disney's The Little Mermaid because I would always watch the original mermaid cartoon that no one else seems to remember. I didn't like the ending where Ariel ended up with the prince because she should've been turned into sea foam. Yeah I was weird like that :)

Safari Mickey and Minnie were super cute and so friendly! I felt like I could link arms and run away with them ;)

Rafiki’s Planet Watch is a hidden gem! I feel like a lot of people are always rushing to this fast pass then to the next, and don’t appreciate the smaller exhibits! I love it here!

And thanks for the dance moves compliments LOL

Love the video of the birds flying at you!

So glad you loved Pandora so much! I think you may love AK more than I do!

I was SOOO SURPRISED that I, Nicole, was able to catch a bird on camera!!! And AK owns my heart. We may have to battle on who’s the number one fan :p

Loving your trip report! Where ever did you two get those red sunglasses? They are amazing and look so cute with your outfits and red lipstick. I need some!!

They are actually from Target and were maybe five bucks? Lol we wanted the most Minnie looking pair :p glad they made the outfits!!

I saw you can order actual mermaid fins to swim in, and I’m so tempted to do it. They are pretty expensive but I need one!!
