Trip Report An Orlando Move and some Disney Fun!

Hi all!
I'm just back from another crazy great family adventure!!
This time the trip wasn't just for fun but to help my son Seth move to Orlando!
Yep, he and his partner decided they had enough of New York and chose to move almost as far south as possible.
Jake was a Special Effects Artist but decided to answer the call from Disney and got a job in the College Program that he hopes will swing to a permanent position. Seth works as a Game Development Artist and as he works remotely, was ready and able to get out of Dodge, I mean NY!

The travelers include me and Seth. (Gary wasn't up for the trip).
Oh, and I almost forgot, Satan the Cat, otherwise actually known as Athens.
Tell me he doesn't look like a Satan.

This cat and his antics during the move increased our stress from probably a 5 to an 8.5. :cautious:

I left Pittsburgh May 17th to drive a Budget Cargo Van to Brooklyn.

To me the most obvious question would be, "why are you driving a big honkin van an extra 400 miles?" Well that's because no one in NY would promise me this size of a van. I was told it could be bigger, and that's a big ole hell no. So off I went.

The first part of this trip report is the crazy of the move and you are welcome to scroll past to "skip to the good part". But, if you want to get a few laughs hang around during the first part. It was so much fun I would like to do it again next week!

And before I end this post I would like to thank @cgersic and @Zipadeelady for all of their Orlando move advice, and @Darstarr for her multiple offers of help on the NY end. (I couldn't take her up on them because she would have seen in person not just via txt what a hot mess my life is)! @Tuvalu and @riverside offered moral support and some helpful travel hints during the trip!

A few more pics of some amenities in the room.
They had really cute cups with Mickey heads embossed on them and I love this coffee they offer.

And paper, lots of paper!

Tomorrow would be an Epcot/HS day and it was Seth's turn to try for a queue spot and an ILL. Would he be successful?
We conclude phase 11.

We found the studio room balconies are so tiny and cramped feeling compared to other DVC's we've stayed at, but we usually only stay one night at OKW before transferring to another DVC resort so really I don't mind. The rooms do feel spacious.

I didn't realize that was the case with all of the studios. I thought this one was small because of the corner room.
I'll keep that in mind for future stays.

I got the resort mug, filled it with coffee for the next morning

I am not a coffee drinker but am I reading this right? - You picked up a coffee to save and drink the next day?

One thing to note, if you are short like me and combine that with a bad hip, those beds are pretty high off of the floor. I kinda had to throw myself up there! 🤣
T has similar issue with beds in hotels

Are you ok with these??

MAY 20th Commence Phase 12 (the most MARVELous phase, @Back!Elbow!Shoulders! because it's all Disney today, and no moving, and no lost cats!!!)

Today is Epcot and then over to HS.
It's also Seth's turn to try for a queue spot. Guardians of course!
We decided we would try the same as for Tron, for a queue and pay for an ILL to ensure at least one ride on it.

He sent me a txt that he was super bummed. He waited a few seconds not wanting to get a spot too early and ended up not getting a VQ at all but did get us an ILL.
That's ok, we get to ride it once at least!

I had added Seth's name to the room registration so he was able to come and go with no problems at the entrance gate.
He picked me up around 10 or so and we drove to HS and parked as we were going to finish up there, and took the Skyliner to Epcot.
If they're not busy I will usually ask for a cabin without the wrap because you can see out so much better. The CM's have always been accommodating.

I do like to look at the different wraps though, so cute.

We got to the IG and I decided to rent a wheel chair. I figured I could use it to walk with and help remove some of the pressure off of my hip, and when we were stationary have it available as a chair.
Huge dent to my pride but would rather enjoy the day.

We made it over to Guardians with a few minutes to spare. Seth was getting nervous that they wouldn't let us ride.

Ridiculously cool ride! Horrible photo but who cares?!

Our song was One Way or the Other and I loved it!

We decided to ride Remy even though the line said 45 minutes. We couldn't hop till 2pm anyway.
We took our time walking over, catching some of the sights.

We walked over to Remy and took some photos on the way.
There are very few things cooler than these topiaries in my opinion!

And then I did a really silly thing. I left the wheelchair parked outside and the wait ended up being closer to one hour and it was a feel like 90 degree type of day. Very silly. It's all flat to the load area and I could have easily sat the entire time.
I saw the ortho dr this week who said the top of the ball (that fits into the hip socket is sheared off.)
No wonder it hurts, a little. New hip coming up sometime in the future. 🤢
I hate needles and knives. Why yes, I am a coward.

Anyway, after that we returned the wheelchair and rode the Skyliner back to HS. We have a dinner date with a cowboy!!

It's too bad this is a family friendly channel.

(I actually posted something on you TR last night but was afraid it was too off color and removed it, hopefully before these quick Magicians saw it!) 🤣

Glad you at least were able to get a LL for GOTG! So sorry to hear that you were in so much pain after having to wait that long for Remy. My mom recently had hip replacement surgery that she kept putting off, but she was so glad she did it in the end because she is so much more mobile now! I understand your fear because I know I should have back surgery, but I keep trying every other alternative to see if it helps the issue and so far, it hasn't helped much.
