Hey WDWMagic!

Just got back from a WONDERFUL EPCOT/WDW getaway.

Got a lot of info and pics to share so here we go!

Around WDW-DTD & TTC

This was the first time in quite a few years I had been to WDW in August. This made us the hottest and the most crowded I had ever seen...WOW.DTD was swarming with people and heat.PI looked pretty packed too.

Poor thing...

The new T-Rex restaurant is looking good. Looks like Everest in DAK.

Work was even being done while we were there. You could hear machinery from the inside and plumes of dust coming out.

TTC

The new Coffee Cart installed earlier this summer is doing quite well. There was quite a crowd about it as we walked to the Monorail.

Speaking of Monorails all trains are YOAMD free!Woohoo!

Alright, on to EPCOT!

First off, the maps have gotten a bit of a refurb. SSE has a new blurb that mentions that's "RE-IMAGINED!!”Also notable is that the communications blurb is gone but is still featured on the Monorail speil. Think it will ever get re-recorded? Also notable is the new IllumiNations picture on the back from Kodak.Ironically a blurry pic here.

What's odd about it is that it shows ROE with very prominent laser shots. As we all know, lasers don't play as big a role in IllumiNations as they used too...but more on that later...

The Entrance Plaza and LaL is the same as ever...Although this time I noticed less people crowding around LaL too look for their pics. It’s odd because almost every time I go I see at least a few people wandering through the "tombstones”. Not this time though....

For fans of the old plaza if you head over to the far left or right "lanes" you can walk between the wall and the pretty trees they have. Took me back to 1993.

Spaceship Earth-FINALLY I get to ride! I was very pleased with the changes, surprisingly...I thought I would merf out about it.LOL.My only gripes were the level of the BGM both outside and in. You can hear Dame Judi's narration perfectly but you have to strain to hear the music that comes form the sets. You could hear the Matrix Tunnel and Computer Room music very clearly and I loved it...nice and appropriate. The Narr. was very interesting. Not as bad as I expected but the ABC lines and taxes line were a bit silly. No big deal though because Dame Judi makes up for it in the 180 top where you enter the planetarium to
"A global network to shape the future of Spaceship Earth” Very nice! It gave me goose bumps. The decent seems very short without the sets. Touch screens are VERY nice and the vid isn't bad either. It just seems horribly anti-climatic without any moving music or a scene to looks at. Triangles were in abundance. I wonder what's in their future. When the decent is finished it would be GREAT to have a song like Tomorrow's Child return. But that's probably a fanboys's dream...

Nice pic of the glowing telephone wires...I wonder why these are the only fiber-optic effects left...Is this a sign of things to come?

EPCOT was crowded on 8/7/08...SSE had a 25 min wait when we got on 50(!) when we got off.Soarin was at 180 with no FP by 12:00.Luckily we got FP's.TT was at 200 mins with no FP as well.

Continued in the next post...

BUT...the most shocking...JII had a 20 min wait!! Insanity! Speaking of JII two interesting things here:

One-Nice pic of the new shirt:

Two: WDI (or what looked like it) was poking around outside with papers...LARGE papers. A sign of things to come? Also as reported last week the Pyramids are illuminated at night! Very nice touch. I love it!

I stopped by in Innoventions to see if StormStruck would be in soft openings but it wasn't this was late afternoon on Thursday.

Soarin' was fantastic except that the Omni Screens should be cleaned and soon...Dots were all over the screen. No matter though, it was thrilling and as always, ended to huge amounts of applause.

The 25th Gallery is still flourishing. There was a HUGE group in there when I first walked in but they left before I could get a pic of them...LOL.They have such great pieces in there...It should REALLY be kept open. Hearing the retro music was a nice touch!

I think that's it for Future World except that Hanna Montana has invaded Mouse Gear.:dazzle:Why?Because it sells. I guess merchandise selling futurism and world culture don't do well...However there is a TON of Figment merch. And there are those new EPCOT Center retro pins...

OK!On to World Showcase...There's no place like it after all...;)

That retro music got to me I guess....

American Adventure played to a huge crowd at 6:45.Show is great but audio was a tad out of synch and the "Rosie the Riveter" "Yosemite" "New Inventions" musical tracks did not play. Audio Animatronics audio was fine though.

Elsewhere there is nothing really here to comment about except that Japan is once again under tarps. It’s very strange because I thought that it just was reformed...Very odd.Is anyone else thinking Mt. Fuji soon?

On to IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth.I've seen this show 4 times now and WOW...it still amazes me.We stood next to people that had never seen the show and their reactions were priceless. However, the show it self was VERY different from past ones. Both barges worked fine, thank goodness but the pyro and the lasers were VERY different.

First:the opening AFL shot was not shot "up" but more "out" of the lagoon. It looked like it almost hit the water. The explosion following it was not the typical red but pink, red,GREEN white and BLUE.Odd.It looked like the pyro shot off at the end of "We Go On."Chaos was very strange too...Since when is purple and white used around the Inferno Barge? It looked great! I'm wondering if it's because of the Pyro shortages? Also notable were the lasers...WOW. They were the brightest I had ever seen them in ROE. Much more prominent and if I'm not mistaken used much more frequently in "Chaos","Celebration", and "We Go On". I found this odd because on the new maps that's exactly how the lasers were portrayed. Very odd. A sign of the Skydance perhaps? I don’t know.

Well, that's about all that I have to mention for now...Perhaps some little memory will creep it's way back in and I'll update the update.

Thanks for reading! Feel free to ask any questions or for more pictures.

After 30,000 years of reading, see you in the Future...!;)

Great update, thanks for all the info.

Sounds like Disney's strategy to draw in the big crowds by raising ticket prices is working very well. :lookaroun

Well now, I wouldn't say that. :lookaroun Especially if the song is appreciated by the right people who think it spreads an appropriate me$$age. :lookaroun
