My pet peeve is the family using the cups from 10 years ago...

If you have not purchased one of these in the past 4 years now... is the time! :)

I'm on the side of the fence that you should not bring mugs from 2002 (or whatever year you have) and use them at the fountain station. Just my humble opinion and you can do whatever you want.

But.......if you go multiple times in the same year and the mugs are still the same, can they be re-used in the same year? I think this would be the exception that would be acceptable.

Thoughts???

Since the rule (even if not strictly enforced) is that it is for the length of THIS stay, then I personally would not consider this an exception to the rule.

However, I have a situation coming up which I am thinking about considering an exception. We are doing a split stay in April. April 2-7 at Coronado Springs and April 7-13 at the Grand Floridian. I am thinking about buying a mug at CSR and continuing to use it at the GF. Ya, I know the rule also says "the resort the mug was purchased at", but since since it is a split stay (basically one trip, but spent at two hotels), I am inclined to consider my actions as keeping with the spirit of the rule, even if not strictly the letter of it. It's not like I'm taking it with me to every resort we eat at, or to the parks. I am using it only at the hotel we are staying at (whether CSR on the 6th, or the GF on the 7th) and for the length of that particular trip (albeit, spanned between two hotels). I know that many people will adamately disagree with me, but that's okay. lol

I don't get the DDP so no free mugs. I have multiple mugs of each color of the present design. We go to Disney many times a year as we live 3 hours away. Until they change the design I am using the ones I have. There are two of us and we don't need 12 mugs! We only use the mugs maybe once a day at the resort. I don't believe in using old ones that are old designs.

If you can afford to go to Disney many times a year then you can certainly afford to buy a soft drink.

Being a Fl Resident we get weekday pass's good for a year for $200. So it is cheap to go. Hotel off season at values is very cheap too. Why would I want that many of the same mugs? Disney needs to change the theme at least once a year!

If you go to the resorts several times in the same year then go ahead and be a rebel and use the mug again and again and again. Let the moral police worry about themselves.

I did laugh when we stayed at the Wilderness Lodge last year and someone was using an old resort specific mug...from Old Key West!!

I think its OK to use the same mug if they haven't changed. I plan to take my mug from September with me in March! But I have no problem buying a new one - they're great travel mugs to use at home!

But I have to ask - has anyone ever seen a CM scolding someone for using a discontinued/other resort/not even Disney affiliated mug? I've seen people use resort specific mugs...from another resort...at Pop Century and Port Orleans FQ. I don't really care what others do but I was just curious if anyone has ever been told by a CM that it's not allowed. ?

We did a split stay this past September at AOA/POP. We had the free dining for our five days at AOA but, not the last 2 days at POP. We used our mugs from AOA at POP.( I know that you're technically not supposed to but, oh well!) I guess when they put the sensors in the mugs it won't matter much. Cause' then you would have to buy new mugs. We probably won't do a split stay again anyway, too much of a pain in the rear!

And when nobody is allowed to use Mugs I will blame people exploiting the system.
Soft drinks and coffee cost the resorts money and why should Disney not get paid ?

At $16 a mug that is about 8 or 9 drinks to bring even.
If i do not think I will us the self serve 8 or 9 times minimum I do not buy a mug.

No, you aren't supposed to bring it back. I think they're OK with back-to-back stays, though - where you check out of one hotel and drive over to another to check in. That's pretty much like one stay. :)

If you come three times in a year, use refillable mugs and want to follow the rules, you will buy three different mugs. :)

My feeling on this is that it is a money hog. There is no way anyone can drink enough out of a machine in a length of stay to make it unprofitably. Soda is so cheap in a fountain machine it is not even funny. A rough estimate of a McDonald's Large is about $0.12 between the cup, soda, ice, and upkeep of the machine. At $15 for a 2 week stay, they will make about $10 at least.

I think you might be creating moral dilemnas for yoursef where there are none. Just use the same mug.
