For important matters yes, I agree the past is as important as the future.

For a theme park whose theme is futurism? Not so much.

In my opinion, not in a theme park about the future.

I didn't mean in the actual presentation of the theme, I meant in the park itself.

In terms of the old park, old art forms, old references in a new setting, one more focused on the future, rather than the history. Nods to that past. That's what I was going after.

Miscommunication mehtinks...

so are we going to find out what all the heated discussion was about when '74 brought up the new implementation of the $5.00 snacks/drinks?

I think the design they used is even more of a treat for Epcot fans... It may not be the original park logo, but it is the design used on that very first, famous, 1982-edition guide map with the built-in wheel of information. More obscure, and thus more exciting!

I agree, although it's not all that obscure. Some pins from across time:

Another take might be that the symbol on the rail is that of the Spaceship Earth building as an icon for EPCOT. The orange SE logo represents the attraction.

There is really nothing to find out other than how the system will be implemented.

The once free wine tastings in the Festival Pavilion now have an $8 charge.

DVC, Annual Passholders, Tables in Wonderland were all able to prepurchase tickets to the wine tastings at a discounted rate ($5 as opposed to $8).

I think these changes are more about realizing that they got the "future" right the first time around. Now, by learning from the past, they're doing it right again.

Well equated. While it would be a step back for them to go BACK to what EPCOT Center HAD, it would be a step forward for them to expand upon what they showed us in those rides. Take is forward into the future, not just showing it briefly.

Almost to the end for the day, here's a new must-have item for any Disney music fan. It's a Sherman Brothers set, with almost sixty tracks on two discs, including three songs from this very park (and even one that didn't quite make it here)...

I have it on good authority (DH has it pre-ordered) that this CD can be obtained at amazon for only $14.99. Ships sometime in October.

If you're a D23 member, you can own it now. I bought mine at the Expo and love it. Definitely a must-have for any Disney or music fan.

I may be highly cynical, but I just see a cheap asthetic to soothe the fanboy angst.

This just seems to be filler with no substance.

I just don't get impressed with railings and logos, I guess.

"all you can eat & drink pass"

LarryStoken - I can't tell if you are kidding or not, but there is no such thing as an "all you can eat & drink pass". Prices at the individual stations for appetizer size portions are usually from $2.50 to $5.00 for a sample size portion. Some demo. and tasting events are $8 ($5 with TiW or AP discount), but the 'big' events are hard-ticket only, are usually sold out months in advance, and range from about $35 to $375 per event.

Party for the Senses is truly "all you can eat and drink", but it is on Saturday nights only, does require a hard-ticket, and is $135. Its well worth it - I'm going again this year.

It doesn't sooth anything. It's just nice to see a nod to the past.

It takes much more to "soothe" the "angst":lookaroun:lol:

I do get the sense a bit as well. Back in planning, the folks at Disney probably thought about the railing, and then thought, "Is there something we can put here to make the fans of Epcot happy?" I think this kind of thinking was especially true with the Great Wall of Epcot at the entrance. I absolutely despise what that thing has done to the entrance of Epcot, even though the old logos are a nice touch. I understand the wall's purpose, but I abhor its implementation. :fork:

That being said, I think there has been a shift in thinking on Epcot. Its a bit early still, but I think as time goes on, subtle reminders of EPCOT's past will become more than just subtle reminders. Hopefully the themes and messages of that era return as well. :)

Ummmm, no. That railing is what they used to do. They got away from such details and were riding the wave of past Imagineering magic. And now they are finally returning to what makes a great Disney park great. These details are huge news! And it's a trend not a fad.

Your observation is way off with all due respect.
