The last closure was to re-edit the film and such. If they're replacing the screen now, they might also replace other soft goods like the curtains and such, or maybe even the Animatronic costumes. I guess i'd say the other closure was more of a show-change whereas this one is more maitenance.

Does anyone know of a history of the changes to the film? I hadn't seen it for years and I was surprised how much had been changed.

I am glad this isn't happening until January, I must see AA every time I go to WDW. Possibly my favorite SHOW @ WDW. :sohappy:

To the best of my knowledge, there have only been three versions of the montage film.

The first version opened with the attraction in 1982.
The second version added to the end of the montage and came with a new arrangement of the music. This happened in the mid-to-late 90's, which was also when many of the animatronics were upgraded.
The third update was to the current version, which keeps the same running time for the montage, but the audio and some of the visuals have been changed.

Martin has a tribute video out that compares the changes between the first and second versions of the show.

Does anyone know what the dates are for this? I am going to be there from January 5th through the 13th. I am hoping it will still be up when I am there.

(first post BTW)

I believe ImaYoyo posted it would be down January 7 thru February 3. Looks like you can catch it if you go the first 2 days of your trip.
Welcome to the boards.

They are replacing the screen, curtain cabling, tormentors, etc.

My question, since there isn't really a floor, how do they do that...?

Not in any way saying they can't/wont/etc.. just really curious how its accomplished.

Yikes, not a job i'd want. Here's hoping it's a good automated system that will just lower them down to wherever the ground is.

I hope they also work on the main projection and give the film an overhaul; it was sadly very noticable the backdrop wasn`t rock solid whilst the foreground was. It is one of the worlds largest rear projections, but it needs to be solid again to make the otheriwse very clever illusion work.

Rob was right above with the versions BTW; the original `82 finale montage, the first update in `93 and this years version.

All I know is, it's a good thing they're going to try and get Ben Franklin off those drugs! I When Twain got him started, I Thought he'd never stop!!!!:animwink:
