Am I the only one who misses 20,000 leagues under the sea?

I really do miss this ride. It was one of my favorite rides growing up! I would love to see it come back, even know it probably never will:brick:

I stated this in a very similar thread quite some time ago, but I don't miss this attraction at all. My very clear memories involve a hot, humid, and cramped little compartment, water on the floor and seats, and a view of hokey plastic underwater creatures and plants. Boy howdy, well worth forty-five minutes in the blazing sun! I know that I'm going against the grain here, but I would not bother to ride this attraction if it were still around today in its original form.
I totally agree with you about actually riding it, but I do miss the "motion" that it and the Skyway added to Fantasyland.

There's a part of my brain that refuses to see the logic on this one. The Skyway, I can accept. 20K, for some reason, my brain won't let me do it!

I don't get it either. And like you, I can understand why the Skyway is gone. More of a safety thing I guess. There's only one at Cedar Point, Busch Gardens (Tampa) and a couple of Six Flags places still if I recall.

20K was such a great overall ride I don't understand the logic behind it either. I mean, get it out of Fantasyland sure, but replace it in Adventureland or something. It was too good

this ride was vastly superior to a ton of other Disney rides.. the only thing " unbelievable about it" was the Sea Serpent.. other then that..

all of it could have happened. All of it..

this was the biggest mistake ever at Disney World.. and Disney land proves this on a daily basis by showing the popularity of the ride that goes on there..

I never knew Disneyland still had it. I could of swore they didn't

I have to admit I didn't like it too much when it was still operating. During my 5-day-stay in 1991 I didn't even want to do it again, as it was still the pre-fastpass-era and a wait of 45 minutes was normally the minimum as it was a very slow loading ride. And I did remember that I didn't like the two rides in 1982 and 1984 that much.
But when I later got the news, that it was closed and later completely demolished I was more than only a little sad, that I had missed the opportunity to at least videotape the entire ride in 1991. I only filmed it from the outside and from the skyway (which is also gone for years now, but i don't miss it)
I would have never expected such a classic E-Ticket to vanish completely, but I know the background and how the MK-maintenance staff hated the ride and how they finally got rid of it.
However I think that with todays technology it would be an awesome new ride. By placing the lagoon in a closed building they would solve several problems that led to the shutting down of the old ride and the AA and other effects could be made far more convincing, nowadays. And the slow loading and other problems like the exhaust fumes could be solved by using electric engines and design different subs with more entrances and exits, not to mention an elaborate and air conditioned cueing area.

Seeing how many years it's been since the ride was originally opened, it's quite obvious that technology has changed where this ride could be much easier to maintain.

You took the words right out of my mouth. I thought the narration was cheesy and kind of annoying. I rather ride the Haunted Mansion twice then sit in a little submarine. I am more upset about the living seas then I am 20000 leagues under the sea. The one ride I want to see at its original glory more then anything is Journey into your Imagination. That was my all time favorite.

They should bring back a submarine voyage type ride for animal kingdom. Am I the only one that see's a whole lot of potential here. Especially because Animal Kingdom doesnt have any sea life at all in the park it would be genius for that park imo.

:sohappy:Definitely one of the worst mistakes they've ever made, especially considering it just SAT THERE, rotting away, while the entire showroom was still in place. I'm glad something proper is finally going in its place, now almost 20 years after the initial shutdown of the ride.

I hear they have one in Tokyo?

They do have a 20K ride in Tokyo, but the ride system is completely different, it's still a very cool ride (Though all of the dialogue is in Japanese).

The ride system is an enclosed small capsule and each seat has a different view almost...there's things you can interact with inside the cabin...and it's suspended underneath a track, much like Peter Pan's ride system.
