I totally agree with you about actually riding it, but I do miss the "motion" that it and the Skyway added to Fantasyland.I stated this in a very similar thread quite some time ago, but I don't miss this attraction at all. My very clear memories involve a hot, humid, and cramped little compartment, water on the floor and seats, and a view of hokey plastic underwater creatures and plants. Boy howdy, well worth forty-five minutes in the blazing sun! I know that I'm going against the grain here, but I would not bother to ride this attraction if it were still around today in its original form.
There's a part of my brain that refuses to see the logic on this one. The Skyway, I can accept. 20K, for some reason, my brain won't let me do it!
this ride was vastly superior to a ton of other Disney rides.. the only thing " unbelievable about it" was the Sea Serpent.. other then that..
all of it could have happened. All of it..
this was the biggest mistake ever at Disney World.. and Disney land proves this on a daily basis by showing the popularity of the ride that goes on there..
I have to admit I didn't like it too much when it was still operating. During my 5-day-stay in 1991 I didn't even want to do it again, as it was still the pre-fastpass-era and a wait of 45 minutes was normally the minimum as it was a very slow loading ride. And I did remember that I didn't like the two rides in 1982 and 1984 that much.
But when I later got the news, that it was closed and later completely demolished I was more than only a little sad, that I had missed the opportunity to at least videotape the entire ride in 1991. I only filmed it from the outside and from the skyway (which is also gone for years now, but i don't miss it)
I would have never expected such a classic E-Ticket to vanish completely, but I know the background and how the MK-maintenance staff hated the ride and how they finally got rid of it.
However I think that with todays technology it would be an awesome new ride. By placing the lagoon in a closed building they would solve several problems that led to the shutting down of the old ride and the AA and other effects could be made far more convincing, nowadays. And the slow loading and other problems like the exhaust fumes could be solved by using electric engines and design different subs with more entrances and exits, not to mention an elaborate and air conditioned cueing area.

:sohappyefinitely one of the worst mistakes they've ever made, especially considering it just SAT THERE, rotting away, while the entire showroom was still in place. I'm glad something proper is finally going in its place, now almost 20 years after the initial shutdown of the ride.this ride was vastly superior to a ton of other Disney rides.. the only thing " unbelievable about it" was the Sea Serpent.. other then that..

I hear they have one in Tokyo?
I never knew Disneyland still had it. I could of swore they didn't
Rumor has it that is was supposed to come to AK but the plans were put on the back burner when the economy collapsed. It was an AWESOME ride. "Immersive" if you can pardon the pun.
Can't we bring this in?
