Am I the only one who doesn't like how all the current lands being built each focus on 1 franchise?

Not knocking you on this, just the logic, which I've heard over and over again:

They should take one of the empty spaces in World Showcase and make it Star Trek Land where they can have people from all worlds come together in harmony.

Star Trek Land doesn't make sense in World Showcase since it is not a country in our world (although the way things are going I wouldn't put it past Disney to try to shoe horn in something like that). Animal Kingdom was always supposed to have a imaginary element (Beastly Kingdom), Avatar features a spectacular natural world with all kinds of interesting plants and animals which fits nicely with AK, and the movie has a very strong conservation theme which again fits with AK.

(keep in mind I don't want Star Trek in WS - just playing Devil's Advocate)

But Star Trek has a long history of breaking down the barriers between different cultures and people and it would be right at home in the middle of World Showcase. A futuristic land celebrating all people, both real and fictional.

If Avatar belongs in AK then surely the multicultural Star Trek not only belongs in World Showcase but is truly needed in these days of turmoil throughout the world.

You don't understand my logic and I don't understand yours, let's just leave it at that.

I think it's a great idea to build dedicated lands based on wildly popular and proven IPs. Star Wars land is going to be packed, no doubt about it. And with the new movies coming out...the possibilities are endless.

And a "Ten Forward Lounge" would be a huge hit during Food and Wine Fest, let alone the food and beverage choices....http://memory-alpha.wikia.com/wiki/Foods_and_beverages

I see $$$ to be made here. "Make it so."
C'mon Iger, there's IP to be bought. We have worlds to conquer.

Have you visited either Carsland at DCA, or Diagon Alley in Universal? I have visited both and they are two of the best theme parks experiences I have had. They take of the concept of immersing you in the world of a movie to the next level.

As for what Avatar has to do with animals (or AK for that matter), the movies central theme is living in harmony with and respacing the natural world and what can happen when you don't. It's a perfect fit for the overall theme of Animal Kingdom.
If you think about the original concept for DAK, which was Beastly Kingdom that included "mythical" creatures like dragons, then Avatarland would fit perfectly with that. Maybe this is an attempt to return to that concept a little bit. Also, in general, I definitely think that Disney is probably not going to do anything in the near future without tying it to an IP-if WDW had had that mindset back when it was created, we would have never gotten BTMRR, Space Mountain, etc.

I also dont care for the single IP focused lands (mostly because I don't give a toff for any of the chosen IPs), but man, I could go for a visit to Ten Forward happily.

2012 does seem kind of like an odd year, in that it's almost like the Walt Disney Animation Studios movie (Wreck It Ralph) and the Pixar movie (Brave) should be swapped.

I'm positive that's the reason why Brave won the Oscar that year; the Academy got confused.

"We should give it to Disney this year."
"Which one was Disney?"
"Well, Disney does movies about princesses and people getting turned into bears, right? Give it to Brave."

Maybe not in WS, but I'd be perfectly okay with Star Trek Land in FW. Or even just a ST ride. Particularly one that would replace Mission Space.

I have no problem with designated "lands" for a specific IP within certain parks places, but wouldn't want it in Magic Kingdom or Epcot. I probably would've said AK too, years ago, but they have convinced me that Pandora/Avatar Land makes sense. If the IP can support it, I say go for it.

Star Wars and Toy Story have more Han enough to create an immersive land. I think Monsters Inc would also work.

At least yours is going into a HOLLYWOOD themed park...ours is going right smack dab in the middle of disneyland... Fantasyland! Frontierland! Tomorrowland! and oh yeah don't forget about Star Wars land!
Goodness I had no idea? Have not been but imho that would ruin Disneyland....can't see how it would fit? Is it actually going to be in the Magic Kingdom or in California Adventure? o_O

Still not a fan of Avatar in AK....still I will agree they needed something else in that area of the park...just wished it was something other than a movie tie in....will focus on the fact that more rides to me is a good thing....still I am much more open to such a thing AND the new lands of DHS because honestly my family rather resents going there any longer, we don't need to see the shows again after multiple visits....and to go just to try to get on TSM is a waste of a 1/2 day, which is all we ever spend there. My next trip? Not at all. The nice thing about a whole land being star wars is the theming.....if they do it right and capture the detailed theming we have come to love then WOO HOO.....and since that franchise has continued to be popular for decades then yes I think its a good fit for THAT park. Cars land will be fun for families with small children as well. My favorite park will always be the Magic Kingdom period. I like the classic Disney things and the plussing of those said things is fine and grand.....Tommorowland still needs refining (namely evict Stich and revamp speedway in addition to putting something that fits in with a future that never was creative infusion..)..but overall? I feel many people love it just because it's a mixture of so many things but all tied into some historical or traditional or nostalgic version of things we have grown to love. :)

So besides the planet, what does the new area have to do with the movie? Absolutely nothing. People need to get over the that part of it. It will be a visually stunning area that has nothing to do with the plot of the movie.

Well I have never even SEEN the movie....I just don't find the beings from that planet fitting into my own Disney realm.....for some reason I see them better fitting at a Universal type theme park. Just like I don't want to see Marvel characters or some other investments the company has made appear. Not saying imagineers can't do a slam dunk immersive fun detailed creative realm within AK, I have great confidence that can be achieved. Not seeing or being interested in seeing the movie likely will have a different impression on my behalf than a fan of said movie. I can better accept some of the Pixar themes and the muppets, and maybe not as much, but even star wars to be a better fit for the Disney parks. Yep, they are an entertainment business, but the anything goes approach of Universal junk yard of several disconnected poorly themed things thrown together is something to avoid altogether. Story telling can be ruined when you travel too far from your genre theme thing.....anyhow, going back to the theme of this thread, I suppose we are rather used to single new additions vs lands....like I always thought that a Monsters Inc rollercoaster would be a great fit at DHS, but not a whole land. So taking what I DO like about DHS? Thus far its bits and pieces vs how I feel about the spokes at the MK being tied together by looser themes but uniting at the castle hub....THAT is what I like. Guess I will have to experience the lands of DHS in the future and reexamine, but I know one thing, those things will draw me back to that park, because the child in me still is fond of Star Wars, and the Mother in me still remembers my children enjoying Cars....

I mean, look at Star Wars Land and Toy Story Land! They're being built in HWS, but they both focus on ONE movie franchise. HWS was supposed to be about all movies and their studios and filmmakers! There's a big missed opportunity for SWL and TSL to focus not just on one movie franchise, but also the movie studios that made those franchises, as well as the other franchises they made! SWL could've been George Lucas Land or Lucasfilm Land or something and also had Indiana Jones stuff and they could've ported the IJ ride from DLR (and speaking of IJ, SWL could've also been George Lucas/Steven Spielberg Land, although Spielberg has made a lot more movies with Universal)! Also, TSL could've been Pixar Land! Plus, what does Avatar Land have to do with animals? Aliens? I know I'm nitpicking, but I'm just saying that it just doesn't make sense to make a theme park area focused on one movie franchise. They could've had them focus on the studios and their filmmakers instead (although I know they definitely couldn't do that with Avatar Land (a Titanic ride? Plus, Terminator is not kid-friendly and unfortunately the rights to a Terminator theme park attraction are owned by a certain company obsessed with motion simulators), especially since that's in AK). I'm sorry if I sound like I'm ranting, I'm just sad that Disney's making these upcoming lands like this. I know the rides/lands will be good, I'm just... a little disappointed.
Don't worry... In 10 or 20 years the cool factor will vanish from any given land, popularity will wane and eventually rides within any given land will be replaced with something new that has nothing to do with the original concept... And then given another 20 years the last vestiges of that concept will slowly get mothballed and you wont have those lands to worry about anymore.
