Alot of pins this year

What's with all the pins? I got my 4th pin since Dec today for a $500 gift card at check in when book a trip for 3/1-4/16. I've never gotten a pin in the last 2 years when I had a trip booked, this year we were going to skip going and I keep getting pins. I'm not complaining but is Disney really doing that badly that they need people there? Disney REALLY wants me to go, now if I can just convince my husband.:veryconfu Anyone else keep getting pins?

I've only received one pin in the last 4 years. I always wonder who they decide to send them to. For the last few years I've never gone more than a few weeks without having my next trip booked, even if the trip was a year away. I wonder if that is why I never get any? Maybe I should cancel my reservation for next year!

The thought is that it is random. Some people say if you sign up for the free planning DVD you might have a better chance at getting one but I haven't signed up for one in over 3 years so I have no idea why I keep getting pin codes, if that's true.

just curious

i have not received any pins that i can ever recall, nor has my oldest daughter -33 (nor her husband) or even my youngest daughter -28... however my youngest's ex-boyfriend got one mailed to my address about 1 year ago. that's it........

now my question is this to you lucky folk who get at least 1 pin, and you others who get multiple pins :goodnevil when you get/got your pins did you already have any reservations made in the disney reservation system?

i ask because we always have 1 or more reservations in their system at any 1 time and i was wondering if by having a reservation in the system was possibly preventing/reducing our chance at getting a pin.

BTW we are all registered with just about any/every possible disney notificaion thingy.

We've been to WDW probably 30 times, with 12 of those in the last 7 years. We go 2-3 times per year and have never received a pin. I've signed up for everything, and I have no idea how they are choosen. Maybe we go too much?

We usually go in Nov/Dec we went in 2007 and 2008. We currently have no reservations made because quite honestly we weren't going to go this year, we thought 3 years in a row w/ 2 small children may be overload for them and us :) However, if I get the right deal for the right timeframe, we might rethink and end up going this year too. That said last year I didn't book our Nov trip until April and I never saw a pin code, so I'm not sure how the pin codes are chosen to go to people.

I have never received a pin

I have my email address with DVC, DCL, "regular WDW", movie rewards, pin shopping (the different pins), as an AP holder, etc etc etc.

They must not like me. maybe they are sending me a message :(

i usually have a reservation on file since i normally make them so far out and i normally make another one as soon as i get back. so...
...yes i had already had a ressies on file. then i got a pin code. i actually canx my first ressie and booked for the pin code. but i eventually canx that also. decided i could not go this year at all.

then a better deal for me came out, the military discount! i now have 2 trips planned this year using that discount.

i so wished i could share my pin codes.

funny thing is

the pin code issue --- how are the receivers chosen ---- is perhaps one of the most discussed mysteries in the world (MOVE OVER UFOs/ALIENS). no one i have ever heard/read over the many many years this is a topic has come up with anything plausable.... also, its a curious thing that nearly every OTHER disney kinda secret thing is leaked out or someone knows something about them BUT WITH PINS there just has not been anyone coming forth and saying "well this is how its done".... perhaps the greatest disney secret of them all.

i KNOW it is suppose to be random... with that said 1) having worked in IT for nearly 40 years i can promise you that any/every random generator program developed still has a logical set of instructions/rules to get it goingl and 2) the random thing only goes so far in that even for a PURE random generator the selection of the same person more than once well the odds are incredible but being selected 3 or 4 or 5 times to get the pins... well IT DOES STRETCH INCRUDITY AT THAT DOESN'T IT --- okay so not quite a correct quote but all you POTC fans get it. :animwink:

i do not begrudge anyone getting one or more... as much as i would love to received one or more this year or perhaps 1 or 2 every year for the next decade or two :king: the mystery is even more perplexing which is really at the crux of my asking.

I would say that it isn't as big a mystery as it seems. While I don't know for sure, I think that it has a lot to do with your booking history. They probably analyze where you book, what offers you have taken part in, and how often you come. From there they use economic conditions and forecasts to determine what pins they need to send out and to whom.

How they select people for pin codes is definetly a mystery to me. We were planning a trip 3 or 4 years ago. I was having trouble understanding the woman at CRO so I put my wife on the phone. When my wife finished she hung up, and gave me the figure. I knew right off the bat this was way to high. We called back, and naturally got another CM. He told us the reservation was made for 3 adults in the party. Somehow someone named Kitty had joined my wife, and myself. We got the matter corrected, and had a good laugh about it. We couldn't imagine how this woman ever came up with a 3rd party since we both had listened to the entire exchange over the phone, and knew neither one of us had ever mentioned a Kitty. Anyway guess what. Kitty has received 2 pin codes at our address this year. WDW must be so desperate to get folks to come down that they send pins out to a person that only exisited in one CM's mind.

My friend and I were discussing this the other day. Her first trip to the World was with me just back in December. Since returning, she's gotten 2 pin codes. I, myself, have never received one :lookaroun
