Almost 10 Years of the Empty River Country

I'm sure all the water fountains over there are hooked up to the same water supply, they'd probably have to shut them all down just to turn off the fountains by RC. As for using the bathroom, squat or no squat, snakes don't like having things dropped or poured on their head and they can lunge. No thank you.

Particularly cottonmouths... and I give the people that have crept through the woods to get pictures/video of River Country credit... though they can't be very bright. I wouldn't go checkin out the woods of Florida particularly near a large body of water... Indeed since a few years ago they had to relocate a rather large gator from Bay Lake. Word is, he was around 13 feet. But like I said, the snakes are more of a threat. Although only 6 species of snake in Florida are venemous (at least native species) there are also breeding populations of pythons, boas, and believe it or not, anacondas. In fact not 2 years ago, Osceola County animal control caught a 12 foot anaconda in Kissimmee. Now, granted they'll more than likely stay away from populated areas, creeping through swampy woods isn't an informed decision. And all for some pictures/video of an abandoned water park...

I'll never understand why they leave these areas like this. Body Wars is still hanging around, too, along with other abandoned structures. :(

It is weird. They say they want to expand and all this yet they have tons of space that has been used by other stuff and they haven't touched them in years. Look at River Country and Discovery Island. But the lack of use (and I realize it's still used occasionally) of Wonders of Life is criminal. They need some kind of attraction over there and in the 4 years since the official closing, they haven't found one thing to use that space for besides the Food and Wine festival? They've also go Millennium Village which I realize is used for banquets and conventions because of the kitchen inside, but it's a huge space that could fit another attraction for the World Showcase, or possibly bring back the Village because it was there for such a short space of time and it was really neat.

Last I heard, definitely NOT an insider, a DVC was being planned for that area.
Haven't heard about it in a while, so I don't know if it was put on hold, canceled
or what.

I thought the 4 hurricanes were in '04. Lol. Anyway yeah it is creepy and so is discovery island but I don't expect anything to be done with them soon.

It will give the illusion of expansion later on. And quite frankly, I really don't think WDW wants to expand. They want to see how much they can cut out, before the average guest notices that something is missing. Apparently, the average guest is not missing or asking what happened to the entire Wonders of Life area. Same goes for River Country and Discovery Island. I guess out of sight, out of mind...

I am sure the water would be fine to drink but I wont test it, but using the toilets all you need to do is squat. :ROFLOL:

LOL! you're so right. we (girls) do it all the time, even if the bathroom is brand new and clean... just in case.

I think it's really sad that they let the park rot in front of everyones eyes. it totally takes away from the magic atmosphere of the whole property. You don't want to be on your way to the hotel and see a totally abandoned park. If Disney is not going to do anyhting with it it's ok, but since guests go through it all the time at least keep it clean. AND TURN OFF THE MUSIC!!

In front of everyones eyes?
Takes away from the whole property?
Guests go through it all the time?

Sarabell, I'm getting the idea that you've never been anywhere near this part of Disney World.
But whether you have or not, you clearly don't have a clue.

River country is abandoned.
I'm a WDW fanatic. So I've been there to see the ruins.
But very, very, very few have seen this first hand.
Just because a couple clowns wandered in with a camera doesn't mean something should or should have be done in this area.

Disney will clean it up and redevelop it when it's the right time to do so.

Can I ask how you arrived at your conclusions and statistics or are you stating your opinion as fact?

The other information about your position is evident in the tone of your post and accusatory language used.

I can't count the times I have seen deer at WDW. You have a real good chance to see them if you get on the left side of the monorail to epcot.
Take a walk along the purple line at Ft Wilderness at night sometime. The deer are everywhere.

There are plans for it to be demoed soon. Try a thread search; its history and future has been discussed quite a bit.

Currently known as the East Parcel Developement Project (aka DVC).

Doing nothing is free. Demolition costs money and eliminates options. It is nothing more complicated than that.

Very true!

They've also go Millennium Village which I realize is used for banquets and conventions because of the kitchen inside, but it's a huge space that could fit another attraction for the World Showcase, or possibly bring back the Village because it was there for such a short space of time and it was really neat.

More money flows into it as a convention space. That building is booked solid and it a hot location for events due to it being within an actual Disney park. Plus the kitchen connected to it isn't just for the building itself. That kitchen is the sole center of catering for all special events on the entire WDW property.
