Confirmed on the Cast Member Intranet:

New Smoke-Free Policy

All Walt Disney World® Resorts, including Disney Vacation Club Resorts, will become smoke-free on June 1, 2007. During the past five years Guest demand for smoking rooms has been declining steadily. Currently, less than 3.5 percent of Walt Disney World's 24,000 resort rooms are smoking optional.

The new policy applies to all guest rooms, patios, and balconies, and designates outdoor smoking areas at all resorts affected by the change. Smoking is currently prohibited in all lobbies, restaurants, and convention spaces. This policy will allow us to better accommodate the large numbers of Guests and Members who request non-smoking accommodations and complements our efforts to provide our Guests with the healthy living options they are requesting.

That wouldn't be a double chin under that beard would it?
If the answer is yes are you admitting to being a smoker and fat and lazy?

I am fat and lazy by my own definiton of the term, but I don't use the wheelchairs at Disney or anywhere else. I am also an ex-smoker: 6 years, 6 days, and about 13 hours, because I was just killing myself the hard way. My DH told me I just should jump off a parking garage since I didn't care if I lived or died.

I'm sorry you feel discriminated against but under civil law the only place you are guaranteed to do whatever you want is your own private property or property you have been given express permission to use per the terms of the owners leading it to you.

Also as a fellow addict, I encourage you to quit you will feel better.

This will be my only comment not related to reasoning for policy:

Philip Morris USA believes that the public should be guided by the conclusions of public health officials regarding the health effects of secondhand smoke in deciding whether to be in places where secondhand smoke is present, or if they are smokers, when and where to smoke around others. Particular care should be exercised where children are concerned, and adults should avoid smoking around them.

We also believe that the conclusions of public health officials concerning environmental tobacco smoke are sufficient to warrant measures that regulate smoking in public places. We also believe that where smoking is permitted, the government should require the posting of warning notices that communicate public health officials' conclusions that secondhand smoke causes disease in non-smokers.

Don't preach to me what i do is my business!!! I dont even smoke in my own house im considerate of the other people in my house!!

as an ex-smoker, you should no how hard it is. ive tried a number of times in the last few years, but it didnt take. job stress, financial problems etc.

its not easy, and having the anti-tobacco gestapo looking over your shoulder all the time doesnt help.

I'm just like out of my mind mad about this, we are outside smoking and still people are complaining. OKay i agree about designated areas i dont mind that at all, but this is obsurd!!! I never smoke in the resort rooms or ever will, i always smoked out on the balcony and put my cig out in a cup of water, then flushed it. This is just giving smokers a more reason not to care were they smoke!!!

shouldnt have said that, now youll have the anti-cup wasting people harping on that.

now theyll have to find something else to complain about besides smoking, i wonder what it will be.

Obesity is recognized by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The ADA gives them equal treatment, not a front of the line pass. For most attractions they actually have to go through the regular line. For others, they are supposed to wait in a seperate area for the length of the line. If a line is less than fifteen minutes, they may be let on immediately.

During the Pressler era, they were given carte blanc to the front of lines. Enough people (especially CMs) did complain and the policy was adjusted to honor the original spirit of the ADA.

i have been going to wdw 3-4 time a year since 1999. in all that time ive never seen anyone in a wheelchair or ECV waiting in line, except for some shows. at the rides they are always, when ive been there, taken to a separate entrance and put right on the ride, or just a bypass to the front.

i have seen no adjustment.

I think this is a good thing. I have nothing against people who smoke, but I think there is a place for it, outside. I actually don't mind the smell of cigarette smoke at all, it's just the smell if a room that has been smoked in is what really bothers me.

i wouldnt mind that much not smoking in the room, as i dont smoke in my home as it bothers my cat and i dot like cat snot on my pillows.

but not on the walkways or balconies? thats ridiculous. whats next? when i pull up to the guard bootha at the resort, he'll make me put out my cigarette , in my car, because theres no smoking in the parking lot?

As an addict I encourage to quit you will feel better.

It also might help you handle anger managment issues better, too. Just saying

Seriously, all you "responsible smokers" are kvetching to the wrong cats. The people you need to vent your spleen towards are all the IRRESPONSIBLE smokers, the people who light up wherever and whenever, aren't courteous with where they blow their smoke, drop their ash or throw out their butts. As a fat, lazy non-smoker, I think I'm pretty tolerant towards smokers if they're considerate- ask if I mind, try to sit near a window, dont't throw butts on the ground, etc. But there are enough inconsiderate smokers that all the non-smokers felt the need to stand up for what they want, and apparently, wdw listened. So if you wanna be a bunch of WATBs, complain to the people who really screwed you over, your thoughtless carcinogen stick-lovin' brethren.

I think someone already mentioned this is a business decision not an anti-smoking decision. In one of the few cases in modern history the majority is ruling on this issue and the majority does not want to stay in a room that smells like smoke. I could give a rats a** what someone does on their own time so long as I do have to inhale what they are doing. Smoke away in your own place in your own time. As for Disney give them a few more places to do it in. Hell have a cigar cafe in Downtown Disney. Just give me a place to be away from it and give them a place to do it. Off my soapbox

I am so happy to hear WDW is going non-smoking! I have little sympathy for smokers who are complaining they have nowhere to smoke. No one forced you to start smoking...now you're addicted and screaming "smoker's rights!" -- maybe you should put more effort into quitting.

I've always been amazed by the rude people who take it upon themselves to smoke out on the balcony - sure it's outside but the smoke always ends up in our room. So, instead of enjoying the balcony, we non-smokers are forced inside. No one is saying smokers can't sit on the balcony - you just can't smoke out there and pollute everyone elses air.

My husband has asthma and I also get very ill from smoke -- even just smelling it on someone's clothes -- so, I applaud Disney for taking this step as this is a very serious public health issue.

I can't begin to say how much I hate smoking, so to say this is thrilling news is an understatement! Now, if they will only ban smoking in the parks totally(we all know they don't enforce the designated smoking areas anyway, which in itself is a total joke) I will be ecstatic!

So yes, to answer my question, you are by insurance standards, FAT. And according to you lazy also.

This is Jamie's wife posting, not Jamie. First of all, Jamie may weigh 290, but he is 6' 2", and weight lifts, so no dear, he is NOT FAT. And, if he was, he wouldn't use it as a crutch. And lazy he is not. The man works 50+ hours a week at a very physically and mentally demanding job. He may joke that he is lazy, but trust me he isn't.

As an addict I encourage to quit you will feel better.

As far as him quitting is concerned, no one would want him to do it more than me and our daughter, trust me. However I think non-smokers see all smokers as inconsiderate oafs. And that he isn't either. He smokes outside of our home, not anywhere near our daughter or me for that matter.

All this rule will do is encourage some smokers to smoke in their rooms bathrooms and stink it up. I know my husband won't do that, but some will. We always get a non-smoking room and he would go out on the balcony and smoke. He was also very courteous of other people walking by, etc.

If this question has been answered, please forgive me. I just saw the thread and didn't have time to read all of the posts.

Anyway! We will be staying at AS Music in June. My mother-in-law is going with us. This is her first trip to the World! My husband and I don't smoke but my Mother-in-law does. I have never even thought about designated smoking areas in the past, but now she is asking me where she can smoke. I told her that she couldn't smoke in the rooms but probably could on the balcony. Now with this new rule (which I think is wonderful!! I want my kids to have pink lungs not black!), I'm sure she will be asking me where at our resort she will be able to smoke. Anybody know where the designated smoking areas might be at the Value Resorts?
