All Things Jungle Cruise

Yeah, if I remember right there was no reference in the script to a name for the cave.

I only worked Jungle while I was there. I did some parade duty and so forth but Jungle is where I stayed. I have worked at other parks and I wouldn't say Jungle was harder than other rides....just different.

It took me about 3 solid days to learn the script. Going around the Jungle 20 or so times a day it became second nature. I pretty much kept the same delivery for every trip. If a crowd didn't buy into the schtick I didn't try to work them over. Some people have more fun with Jungle than others.

I actually sometimes preferred working load or unload because there was some time to interact with the guests.

Back when I worked it was an all male crew and we still had the guns. That gave it a different "feeling" than they have today.

I never really thought about it before, but each park has one live tour guide ride:

MK: Jungle Cruise
EP: Living with the Land
DS: Great Movie Ride
AK: Kilamanjaro Safaris

Cool!

Oops, I forgot about Backstage Tour. Do these jobs pay any better than other ride operators. I mean, you obviously have to have better people skills and speaking skills to do these jobs.

I like what DL has done with incorporating The Indy ride in the radio broadcast and the Tarzan treehouse.

Any one have ideas to upgrade either the DL or MK version of the ride. I think DL should add Jungle Book characters to theirs, I'm not sure if that could work at MK, although Aladdin is now heavily incorporated.

The DL version is more condensed and has different jokes and has the addition of Maynerd so that works good.

One of my fav quotes from DL:

"This is Araja (or some Indian name), the goddess that brings good luck to travalers (points to elephant). That's Bob (points to monkey on the other side). He invented the churro."

You mean Aladdin was incorporated to JC or to Adventureland?

 To the Adventureland, thus making it harder to tie in the rest of the land to a cartoon theme I think. At least with Tarzan Treehouse you are still in the jungle and therefore Jungle Book could fit easily. If you make Tarzan treehouse directly across from the Aladdin area I think you will clash a lot now, but maybe not.

No, I agree, you're totally right. They went too far with the whole Agrabah thing...

I heard somewhere that Robin Williams, Steve Martin, and Timothy Fey (The kid who was caned in Signapore) were all Jungle Cruise tour guides at some point during their lives. Any confirmation on that?

Just a couple random notes:

The DL JC goes past the indy ride queue. The queue is quite big and noticeable, so the ride spiel has been changed a bit, and at night you'll find the boats "Shining" the people in line.

We had a good joke last time we were on the WDW one. At the point where the elephant makes noise, it went like this:

"This is an african elephant. We've got this one trained. Watch....speak (elephant makes noise). Speak louder (elephant makes noise again), one more time (Big noise from elephant). Okay, now hose the boat (nothing).

Well....no treats for her"

Steve Martin, I believe, worked in the magic store on Main Street. As a Skipper I heard the same rumors (not the one about Timothy Fey) but I never got confirmation from a reliable source.

i was a jungle skipper in 97, so I can answer some of the questions accurately
1 the guy caned in singapore was a jungle skipper.
2you have a spiel you are supposed to follw exactly, they have people called the "speil police" that check up on the skippers and if you get caught changing or adding things you get written up

I always thought that skippers where incouraged to come up with a little personalized things in the spiel to make it origianl

My guess is that in order to minimize the chance of offending anyone, they are required to stick to the speil now. :(

Bums me out... I used to LOVE the part when you'd be going into the temple, and see the broken beams, and the skipper would say the beams were Disney's first attempt at a monorail system.

You would love my bus ride then... my ride is filled with Jungle Cruise style corny jokes...

"I just wanna apologise about the bumps in the road that you may be feeling. But I want to let you know, it's not my fault. And it's not the busses fault. It's the asphalt."

odd tidbit on the jungle cruise - when riding the jungle cruise, when you get to the 3 headhunters, towards the end of the ride, listen to what they are chanting... one of them says "i love disco".. we were told of this when we were on the keys to the kingdom tour last sept and it really is true... the tour guide said it was because the ride was developed during the disco craze... i don't know how true that is, but if you listen, you really will hear him say "i love disco"...

It was a long time ago... maybe 20 or more years ago, I went with my father who had a redish beard and brown hear... don't ask the genetics on how this happenned... but I have the same type of coloring.

Anyway, we came out from under the water fall in the Jungle Cruise and the skipper said... "I'm really sorry sir, we seemed to have rusted your beard." really cracked everyone up on the boat... well at least us. Anyway it is an example of an Adlib that I heard.
