Don't know when your trip is, but FYI - their food court is closed for renovations, and last time I was down there (about a month and a half ago) a CM told me it won't reopen until sometime in December.
I stayed there twice. It's a nice resort for the most part. They'll probably be some crowds because of the half marathon but I mean, it's manageable for a weekend I suppose. There could be worse. And it's the first stop during times when the All-Star resorts share buses during off peak hours or any trip to Downtown Disney.
i LOVE AllStar Sports! Just like you, I go there for value. I go to Disney World to enjoy the parks, the activities etc...not the resort that I'm never in. I'd recommend requesting the football area of the resort. Close to all the amenities (lobby, food court, buses etc)
You veered into my next question, which was about choices for online check in. There were many options. I chose "highest floor" and "near transportation." Would those be the two best options? But there were choices for other areas of the resort, different floors, near the elevator, landscape view, etc.
We always request Touchdown section as it is close to the main building. If we ever stay at Sports again, we will DEFINITELY be requesting a room that does NOT face public areas like the football field, towards the pool, etc... We had an AWFUL experience in May with groups of unsupervised kids screaming on the football field until 2am. Had to call security twice. I know this coming weekend will be busy due to Wine and Dine half but hopefully it won't be busy with hoodlum teenagers. I think any room that's maybe in the back of Touchdown, away from the noisy areas would be ideal.
Well I haven't been able to do the new updated online check in. I am still 64 days out, so in four days I will be able to. Last year I just called Disney and asked them to stick me in the Touchdown area, and they did just that. I personally believe I had the best room (left side of the touchdown area, first room, first floor) if you don't mind climbing stairs, it shouldn't really matter if your on the lowest or highest. Near transportation is literally the touchdown area, or surfs up area. If i were you i'd try lowest floor and touch down area. Or simply just call them to make sure they have the right information. Hope that helped
I requested "highest" because when I was last at POFQ, I had the second floor and could hear steps above me, not to mention dripping water from the sink in the bathroom above. Wouldn't have that problem being on the highest floor.
