First off I want to thank all the members who were helpful with info re: our move to FL.
We recently returned from a week trip and feel a little less overwhelmed.
We put the deposit down on the apartment and got confirmation that we have been approved. We have a move in date (6/1) and hubby will be moving down first with the rest of us to follow after school lets out here in NJ.
I do have another favor to ask. We went looking for furniture stores and took 192 out to 27 but then after a while and there was NOTHING to see, we turned around and went back down 192 all the way to St Cloud. We did stop at 2 places but neither had a whole lot in the way of inventory/choices. Is there some kind of large discount furniture store down there somewhere? Prices actually seemed a little high at the 2 we did find and with having to basically furnish an entire apt we are on a budget of sorts.
TIA

I know my cousin bought some furniture from Kanes Furniture 9545 S. Orange Blossom Trail, Orlando, FL 32837-8305, Phone: (407) 888-3171, 2 Miles South of the Florida Mall. There is a Macy's furniture store in Altimonte Springs area and I thought the JC Penny store in the Florida mall had some furniture. Dockside Imports (there is one on 192 and International Drive) is similar to Pier 1 Imports up here.

Most of the furniture stores are above Orlando. I know there is another one on Rte. 50, but can't recall the name. And there are probably more on OBT around the Florida Mall area.

Hi,
Where did you finally end up renting and how long did the approval take?
I assume you like what you rented, but, what make you decide?
I hope I am not being too nosy here, but, I am just curious and still toying with the idea of moving. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,

No info for you, just wanted to say good luck with your move! We're in the middle of moving too and we're staying with my parents until our house is done. How fun for my husband

Enjoy the sunshine! and happy shopping. We'll be doing the same in another month.

Gail,
We decided on The Alexan off of 192. I visited the complex 3 times and it really is beautiful. It's back off the road and the school bus picks the kids up in a safe area. I was actually told at another complex that I was interested in that a child had been hit at their bus stop which was located on a busy street. Needless to say I crossed that one off right away although that was a nice place too. The Alexan also has a program where a % of your rent can go for closing costs. The apartment is roomy and we got 1st floor, lake view. We handed in our application and paid our deposit and app fee on a Sunday and had confirmation by Saturday. It would have been faster but I had to wait till I got back to NJ to fax some stuff down. They did a credit check and what not. The Staff that we spoke to were all very nice and when I checked out apartmentratings.com there wasn't a huge list of bad reviews. Only a good one. I know that there are some members here that live there and they didn't have anything bad to say either so that was a plus as well.
Good Luck Gail. It is a huge move but a necessary one and I am confident that I made an informed decision.

HI,
Thanks for the information. The Alexan is one of my top picks and it is nice to hear that it is a beautiful place. The photos of it on the web site look great.
Good luck in your move. :)

furniture... err...

I got mine from Rooms to Go and Pottery Barn. I know Pottery Barn is expensive, but Rooms to Go wasn't too bad at all. And they deliver too.

For appliances though... go to Appliance Direct. After living in Orlando, you won't be able to get their name out of your head.

Start at the Florida Mall on Orange Blossom Trail and drive south.

Might as well nickname this area Furniture Store World.

Good Luck.
