And now all flights are cancelled until at least 1am Monday 19 April (uk time), and the volcano is still erupting and is expecting to be for a while yet!

I keep looking to the sky to see this apparent ash cloud that's hanging over us in Manchester, but so far it's been nothing but blue skies.

As for the cancelled flights, that sucks for people whose holidays are affected by it. Will the number of people who are unable to make their wdw holidays (or are delayed by up to a week) have much of an impact of Disney financially? I'm imagining that with the whole of Europe being grounded that the number of guests unable to make it to wdw could be in the tens of thousands.

Good thing this didn't happen over the Easter holidays.

Many of the people who went out for Easter are now stuck in the USA.

If this carries on for as long as some scientists believe (several months:eek:), they will have to bring them all back by ship. Or fly them back to southern Spain then use trains to move everyone north again.

Its invisible to the nekkid eye, allegedly. Im sure Michael Moore and Co will be able to dream up some conspiracy about the restrictions on travel in Europe. Ta ta taaaaaaaaaaa........

At least one plane went to Orlando empty ready to bring back 'stranded' passengers. They claim there wasn't enough time to board people?!

Imagine being stranded in Orlando? :ROFLOL:

Still, nice and quiet around the UK airports for a while.

Its ok getting stranded out there. Thats why man invented plastic. :drevil:

Yep there was a case in the 70s where a BA 747 lost all 4 engines in an ash storm, and visibility out the front window was restricted to a 2inch patch. All ILS landing equipment failed, and in short, was a miracle they made it down.

And as Pumba mentioned, it isn't visible to the naked eye, so that flight Steve mentioned wasn't aware of what was happening until it was in the air for a while. I'm glad that the infromation about how destructive these "invisible" particles can be wasn't obtained by a disaster with loss of life! I don't blame the airlines for being cautious. The delays are an inconvenience, rather than a tragedy. I would rather live to fly another day, thank you very much.

We are due to fly out next Monday (26th) and are very concerned just now, I can't see us being able to go

You should be lucky as your long haul and the cloud scan is showing it moving it away from transatlantic routes, but I heard a report saying 10 days from lifting of restrictions to get back to business as usual for Euro destinations.

CNN is reporting this morning that KLM ran a test with a 737 yesterday evening and found the level of air quality to be conducive for safe air flight. They're expected to ask permission to resume flights within the next few days. British Airways was expected to conduct their own test today.

UK government just announcing the plans they are making.

They sound like they are going to fly everyone into Spain, then transport via train, ferry and bus from there.
They are even talking about the navy helping to transport some people.

My sister and fiance are stuck in WDW right now they were due to fly home on Thursday night but all flights cancelled. As they bought a 14 day ticket but only booked to stay for 10 they went back to disney and booked intoC/beach res for one night then when it got worse they moved to Coranado Springs. Disney have been really good as when they explained what had happened they offered them a discount rate on room instead of normal room rates, they still dont have any real idea when they will fly.

So they get to continue living the Disney dream for an unknown length of time? Wow, WDW really can make dreams come true!!

We were supposed to fly yesterday with Virgin to Orlando, flight was cancelled Saturday morning and Virgin were very good, rebooking us on Wednesday. If the closure goes on any longer than this then I think our holiday may end up being cancelled altogether as I can't fiddle my work roster much more.

This morning me and PrincessBindy should be waking up and going for a nice dip in the pool before heading out to catch a glimpse of the Shuttle landing, instead I'm working the late shift in a deserted Air Traffic Control tower. Joys.
