Sorry if this is a re-post but I found this article this morning.

http://www.opinionjournal.com/la/?id=110007081

Excerpt "The Disney studio's recent string of expensive hand-drawn feature failures, such as "Treasure Planet," "Brother Bear" and "Home on the Range," were the result of poor story choices and corporate meddling in the creative process, not the wrong kind of animation."

Gee, I wonder cough*Micheal Eisner*cough, who they could cough*Micheal Eisner*cough be talking about cough*Micheal Eisner*cough.

This topic has always been so upsetting to me. I mean, don't get me wrong--I love Pixar movies, but why can't we enjoy both mediums? Computer animation doesn't guarantee a good movie. *sigh* I'm depressed.

I think this whole "the computer is taking over the hand" concept is utter garbage. In fact, I can't even comprehend WHY anyone would think that, except for the reason that PIXAR and DreamWorks CGI films have earned quite a bit of money. Which, in reality, isn't a legitamate reason.

Disney is WAYYYYYY off track on this one. It really is a sad time that Disney, the originators of the full-length animated feature, decide to shut down hand-drawn animation studio on the grounds that CGI is more effective.

I really cannot understand this logic.

I agree with you 100%...probably a lot of other people too!!

And that was a VERY good article!!!

Management at Disney has to be obsurd to think that changing animation is going to get them back on track!!

It takes good animation to make a movie, but more importantly a good story too!!

I am sure if Walt were still around, he would find a way to make room for both under the Disney hat...but no....the management in the Animation division are too stupid to come up with any good movies any more!! It makes me sick!!! I think what they really need is another movie along the early 90's way...they need to go out and find someone hot on Broadway music (maybe a team of two) and get going making those good movies again...they could get that Schwartz guy from "Wicked"

And personally, I think Chicken Little is still going to be horrible. Why? because Disney is suppose to be for "the child in all of us." Well, the characters and plot of Chicken Little doesn't appear to be for "the child in all of us." Just the line (and appearance) of the father in the trailer saying..."I'm going to scream like a little girl" makes me not want to go see this....if I wanted to go see a movie where the animators distort the true essence of an animal to an overly large stupid sounding thing, then I will go see a Dreamworks film....

But what I really want is another wonderful Disney film...something that I just haven't seen in a long time...(just look at the Disney DVD upcoming release website...they are selling Miazaki (sorry..totally misspelled)...and Disney channel garbage... and special editions of movies they already released a year earlier...)

Well..I went on long enough...and made myself depressed enough:cry:

VERY good article! But, depressing to read. Micheal Eisner's stupidity and short-sightedness will lead to the ultimate demise of the company. Like I always like to say, it doesn't matter what kind of paint or materials you use to make the painting out of, its what's in the painting that counts. I agree, Chicken Little will be terrible. I mean, come on, why the heck do they have a scene where Chicken Little is running around in his breifs underwear?! Come on, that's just bad taste and not funny. I hope it will flop. It will truly teach Eisner a lesson.

Disney has not shut down hand drawn animation. They have outsourced it to Asia. Same quality (if not better) and far less expensive. Dwelling on the past is not good. Seize the future!
