Alien Encounter to close in October?!

Rumors and Only Rumors

Alien Encounter to close LATE this year, but this is a very weak rumor. Nonetheless, if it does close in October, which is POSSIBLE, or later, it may be open early in 2004. Or, it may close in 2004, and be done within a few months.

Also, Jim Hill reports Haunted Mansion Holiday may be on its way (meaning HM closes next September in WDW, reopening in October..)...he seemed pretty confident.

Been tracking this one since Sep 2002. :)

Yeah I know what's going on with this, but I heard just today that October was the month it was going down. I know the basic idea of the changes and that they are going on but this was the first I have heard of the timing and so soon. I was just trying to get other's input on the timing and if there was any validity to that. I am just asking because I love this attraction and I won't make it till December and I am hoping to catch it one last time before it gets butchered.

8 January 2002: Alien Encounter/Stitch rehab

Further to the 16 September 2002 update below, it is now almost certain that the Stitch makeover will happen over at Alien Encounter. As plans stand, Alien Encounter will close February 2004, and will reopen in October 2004 with the new Stitch storyline. A budget of around $10 million is being used to rework the attraction, including the creation of Stitch Audio Animatronics beginning this summer at WDI. As always, this is not officially released information, and may be subject to change.

Right I read all that, but I figured since that was from January 2002 that maybe it wasn't that up to date, considering it is now over a year later. But I guess since that is the only published info regarding the time table on this then I'll stick with that.

Well, tomman710 it doesn't look like there is much time left before the butchering takes place.

My favorite CM at AE said that it will close in October but he also said that WDW was asking for 25 million for the attraction but they are currently set to only recieve 10 million. He also said the changes will include the deletion of Skippy but S.I.R. will become a policeman (Not sure why). Again this comes from a CM so take that for what its worth.

Well I for one can't wait for the change

While there are plenty of advocates I dont think even Disney knows how much we love Alien Encounter. Ever since Stitch rumors started coming in the love has gotten that much stronger. I for one sort of took the attraction for granted. I didnt think there would be any way they would replace such a great attraction. But now alot of people are really coming together to show their support now that it is almost gone. Although it may be too late I can always boo at the end of Stitch Encounter (which I plan to do on several occasions :drevil: )

Trust me you are not the only one  The thing I was most shocked at is how much the cast members at the parks hate the change too. It seems maybe that Disney doesn't really know how much so many people like it.

I only saw Lilo and Stitch twice but in the beginning on the spaceship isn't Stitch being chased around by space "policeman"??

You could be right. I don't really remember alot about the movie. I saw it twice too and I still feel the movie is ok. Not bad by any means but nothing spectacular. The best part of Lilo and Stitch were the funny trailers having Stitch invade other Disney movies. It's just sad now he has to invade AE :(

CM's aren't the most trustworthy, do you know this one well?

No I don't know the guy and like I said take it for what it's worth. Even though I talked to him quite a bit during my visit I would say I am far from knowing him at all. But unfortunately ALL of the CM's I asked about the fate of AE all were pretty sure it's days are numbered. And like I said earlier they weren't happy about it.
