Alien Encounter Petition

With all respect to the diehards in attendance, I kinda doubt that this change will make too many ripples among the average park-goers. Personally, I'm not a big fan of the attraction in general so you can probably deduce my opinion on this, but even amongst those with some degree of fondness for AE, I don't foresee this causing much of an outcry. The heart of the attraction will remain intact, if I understand this correctly. The characters in the preshow are peripheral details; the average AE fan will likely not feel too cheated by the change. Again, I'm not a big fan anyway, so I could be mischaracterizing the people who do like it, but those are my thoughts.

For those who are currently screaming "Save Alien Encounter!"--think of the Toad fans and count your blessings. :D

Ok I'm going to try my best to respond to these two parts.

1. I do not see how in the world the heart of an attraction will remain intact when you take a scary, thrill show for teenagers and adults and you turn it into a kiddie show? And from everything I've heard NOTHING will be exactly the same in the new show from the current one. It's going to be a totally new show without XS-Tech, Chairman Clench, S.I.R., Skippy, Spinlock, Dr. Femus, and of course the Alien. So how will us AE fans not feel cheated? That pretty much IS the attraction gone. (Somebody PLEASE correct me if I'm wrong about the totally new storyline going in and the omission of all the characters I listed earlier. That is one time I would LOVE to be wrong  )

2. And why should we count our blessings because of what happened to Mr. Toad's Wild Ride? Mr. Toad was in the park over twice as long as A.E. was (Ok it's not offically gone yet but you know what I mean by using "was"). Those fans had many more years to ride Mr. Toad than us A.E. fans got to see our attraction. The way I see it the Mr. Toad's fans should be counting their blessings that Disney didn't close the Wild Ride only after 8 years. And while I loved Mr. Toad and wish it was still there you have to admit that Mr. Toad at its peak was a minor attraction. Alien Encounter has been much more popular overall and was the centerpiece of the New Tomorrowland renovation.

And like you said you didn't care for the attraction, it is my favorite so you can probably deduce my opinion on this too :)

Just Update It!

Maybe they should just update the show then. It is an ORIGINAL! Why put in Stitch? Make his his own ride. It is one of the only rides left that does not have a movie theme to it (yet). And if it is becuase kids are scared, I heard the Stitch was going to be scary also, so what is the point??

Just curious.

Everything I've heard from CM's and people in the know on these boards say that the new Stitch show will be aimed mainly for little kids. I don't know how they are going to do it though. Will they keep the "analysis modules" (to deliver binural sound, not to keep people locked in like some would believe)? If so they will still have to have the height requirement which will keep out the target audience. So I am still in the dark about how everything will work out.

The Goals

1. Attract Stitch fans

2. Have a "new attraction" (adding to a sort of complacency)

The Effects:

1. Potentially hurt Alien Encounter's fans

2. Remove Disney's tradition of "original attractions"

3. Pass off option to help other attractions in need of attendance

I hate Alian encounter but I dont think adding stitch is a good idea.Leave the ride alone,Lilo and Stitch was not that good of a movie to deserve an attraction of its own.FYI alien encounter is not original to that spot remember mission to the moon?

I hadn't heard the plans to basically gut the entire attraction and redesign it for the younger crowd. If that turns out to be the case, then I see your beef a lot more clearly. That'd be like taking the HM (my fave attraction) and turning it into a corny Scooby-Doo ghost chase. (Actually, that might not be a bad attraction, but I don't wanna see it in place of the Mansion.) :animwink:

Ok now we're on the same page. I'm glad I could explain it so you could see where we are coming from. But I can see where you were coming from before, now. If you just thought they were just going to add a little Stitch animatronic to the 2nd preshow but keep everything else the same I can see why you would think we were overreacting. I'm glad you see why us A.E. fans are upset now.

Thank you very much. And the thing is most everyone on this board are either Annual Passholders (like me), yearly visitors, or people that go every once in a while but still go enough to care about it. We are the people that keep Disney World going (so to speak). And these are the people that want A.E. to stay as is (certainly not everyone but the majority from what I've read).

I can't take credit for starting the petition (I just stumbled across it) but I am pretty much the one who defends A.E. (which is my favorite attraction). But hey not everyone likes A.E. so I guess Disney feels its time for a change. I've done all I can personally do to save it so I at least feel good about that. And I can always wear my new Alien Encounter T-Shirt with pride

I'm sorry, but Alien Encounter has to be one of my least favorite attractions at WDW. I just don't see any reason to keep this. It's just not "Disney" to me. It just seems like something they put together to compete with Universal. It has no heart, no humor, is rather sadistic, and just not entertaining. I think adding Stitch might be able to add more heart and humor to the attraction, which should help it if not greatly, at least make it somewhat better than it is.

Well that's certainly your opinion and I respect that, I find it to be the funniest attraction in Disney World. I get a huge kick out of all of the one liners, the beathing and tounge on the head, and seeing others reactions. While I can see how it might not be "Disney" to you, it is every bit as "Disney" to me as anything else in the park. To me "Disney" is great storytelling, great effects, and great entertainment. To me no attraction fits that any more than A.E. I have nothing to come back at you with the "no heart" agrument because I guess it kinda doesn't have much heart. But that is also kinda the best part about it  It's a wonderful break from the "cute and cuddley".

But I definately see where you are coming from. A.E. seems to be either a "love it" or "hate it" attraction where most people fit into one of those categories and not too many fall inbetween.
I hope you are happy with the changeover.
