Alcohol in the Magic Kingdom

While I rarely have a drink in WDW, this still doesn't bother me from a tradition standpoint, especially if handled correctly as many have suggested. What bothers me here is the timing. We're going through a period of unprecedented upcharges and price increases, seemingly called for from the higher-ups looking to soften losses and expenses elsewhere in the company.

This could have happened at any time in the past 45 years, so I don't think it's any coincidence why it's happening now. Like most of the other changes it likely won't affect me personally, but what continues to be affected is my opinion of a company I used to admire and love. Just hard to look at Disney the same way when they're attempting to drain every last dollar from my bank account.

I don't see you getting either of those inside the MK park. Currently I expect it to be offered at waited service only.

But also (and I know everyone is different) but even at Epcot, DHS and AK I didn't personally feel the need to buy an alcoholic drink outside of a table service place. Florida is tooo hot for me to want too much booze, the slushy is just as refreshing without alcohol and $7 cheaper!
Thanksgiving week and the week before/after beginning around (I think) 2012 every year, I would regularly see CM's pushing iced-down carts with beer for sale in HS starting in the late afternoons. I've also seen them in March (2015) and June (2015). But only at the end of Sunset near ToT and RnRR.
I didn't see it..but I wish I had. I also wish they would implement this practice for the people in line for JTA sign ups..but instead of alcohol sell Starbucks..or send order takers taking pre payments. Something so I can have a coffee while waiting for 73minutes!

Missed out on the fun
Apparently I did too. I didn't notice any drunk people at Epcot. I did have a delicious holiday adult coffee, and another drink in Germany..sadly the lines were too long in France and I didn't get food or beverage from their kiosk. :(.

I don't understand why people here are equating drinking to be drunk. I would safely place a bet that the majority of adults having a drink at WDW are not doing so to get wasted.

Sam's was checking ID at the door month before last. That was a welcome change from what we saw in May.

I think it goes 21+ after 8? (Could be earlier). Similar to the cruise ships where the kids get kicked out at a certain time. Disney has gotten comfortable with walking this line as an org. MK had to always be on the roadmap.

I can confirm that it's adult only after 8. I used to have to pass by every night when returning to my room..staring longingly and enviously at everyone sitting on the patio.

I love the atmosphere, drinks, and food at Trader Sam's!

Most people don't understand the concept of moderation, especially on a vacation that can be stressful when everything is on a schedule and people get impatient/upset/frustrated.

Also, coming from the same person who somehow didn't notice the tents in TL, I'm not surprised you didn't notice drunk people in Epcot.

Most adults do realize that.

The second part-
True. I'm usually preoccupied with having fun with the people im there with :)

To be fair the only 2 places I've ever seen someone sloppy in a theme park is at Epcot and at USF both times by men who were over 40 and should have known better. Never anyone sloppy at DAK, DHS or IoA.

So in other words.. 2 people out of thousands. Totally sounds like the "majority" as was charged.

Side note, it's been a few years, but F&W was not the way people describe it now back when I used to visit. I've read that HHN is a picture of sobriety and F&W is full of pukers in recent years.

I love both of those events so much..but typically HHN was the one with the probability of getting bumped into by someone who had 1 too many..although still I never witnessed anyone vomit there either.

Tell that to the several mobs of drunk idiots screaming profanity to each other a couple nights ago at FestivalCOT. I'm actually sitting on a bench in the park right now and just watched someone puke their guts out in the bushes.
Oh, hurray. The old "puking in the bushes" line again. And since you are being repetitive, so will I:

The problem at EPCOT is during the festivals a not inconsiderable number of people set out to do the 'EPCOT pub crawl' i.e. get a drink in every country and FW. You mes ami are focused on having FUN but in your mind FUN != drunk, I'd say no more than 5% at most at EPCOT are there to get blotto but it's more than enough to earn EPCOT the 'Drunkytown' because that 5% is for lack of a better word 'hammered'.

I've no problem with enjoying an adult beverage or two but I know my limits and part of that is I also entertain as part of my job so I need to stay sober and can't allow my business guests to become blotto either.

TDO really needs to re-think their alcohol policy and a good first step would be employing servers who have current alcohol training, Heck I volunteer for a non-profit and we have a booth at a NASCAR track and even I have CURRENT alcohol server training and I don't directly serve alcohol but I supervise those that do and no refusing service to an intoxicated guest is never fun but that's what Security is for, i.e. persuade the guest that they have had enough and if they are too feisty hand them off to the local cops.

I don't have issue with alcohol being served in sit down restaurants. There is no difference between drinking alcohol with lunch at Grand Floridian Cafe and returning to the park, than there is drinking in a Magic Kingdom sit down restaurant.

What I dont think is necessary is beer sales in lines of attractions or even really around the park.

I think what needs to happen is Disney needs to review how it goes about managing crowds and individuals who don't know when to stop drinking, especially at EPCOT festivals. An example could be having a policy of no beer crawl t-shirts allowed, increased security around World Showcase - and actually security that are able to implement a firm 'you've had enough now'. I'd even welcome (at festival times) a policy presence in the park - stationed discretely but so you know they are monitoring folks to get them home. I'd even suggest that a policy should be in place that if you are considerably drunk - ie unable to stand, then you cannot use resort transportation.

As said in other posts also, CM's need to be firmer with sales and if someone is considerably intoxicates then sales should be refused.

I think the way things are managed need to be improved, but serving alcohol with dinner is the least of people's worrie!;

And one persons experience doesn't reflect the majority. The park is open all year, plenty of time for wasted people to puke in the bushes.

You're at a theme park. I'll puke in the bushes if I go on the teacups.

Alcohol is available. Seeing drunkenness is a risk.

There, now we have set reasonable expectations.

Monitoring others' cups is more offensive to me than a happy drunk. But again, we all have different sensibilities. Just coexist.
