Ak's severe lack of kid's rides.

Wonders of Flight is all about conservation and shows allot of the endangered spieces, i.e. ball eagle.

why does every park have to have a massive amount of rides. Why can't we find pleasure in the simple things, nature. Why does it always have to be thrill after thrill after thrill.

I would like to take a bet how many people have seen at the Ak the Baby white cheeked Gibbon. He or she is so cute. We were lucky enough to be there the day he or she was born, so we go to see him or her each and everytrip. We have adopted him or her as our baby.

We enjoy walking around the park, finding and seeing new things each and every trip we take, which is 4 or 5 times a year. Our granddaughter 8 and grandson 6 choose this park of MK all of the time. It ususally takes us at least a day and half to see it all each time and that is not going on many rides or shows.

Also, I refuse to consider those wannabe broadway "stage"shows as a good breather attraction. All they do is take up space that could be used for some good innovative dark rides that would have families lining up to ride.

I, for one, love Animal Kingdom the way it is. It is hah different style and is not just the same type of amusment park. As for the 'wannabe broadway stage shows' taking up space, I think Festival of the Lion King is one of the best attractions in all of Disney. I also Love going on the safari, and walking through the trails. A few rides are great, but I dont think they should turn it into a Busch Gardens. The way I look at it, MK is for rides, MGM is for shows, EPCOT is more educational and AK is for animals. Each park has their own uniqueness.

Most people are unwilling to pay $57 to visit a zoo. They come to Disney for rides, not animals and trees. Right or wrong, that is the feeling and the reason for the "nahtazu" promotion.

I've seen the little chappie. :D
Refreshing to hear that your grandkids enjoy AK. It's my favourite.

It's our favorite too. Takes a couple days as well and then since it closes so early, we can either hit parades and fireworks elsewhere or spend the evening in DisneyQuest.

I just see so many little kids and so many parents fustrated because of the way their kids act or because theyre so small.... I'm just trying to understand the rational behind it.

Perhaps this is just a larger issue that gets into parents and parenting and that sorta thing.

That is the key right there - it is a parenting issue. Kids that are acting inappropriately are not being disciplined and kids that are crying are hot, tired or hungry and hopefully the parents will take care of that for them.

Ok, I am not even going to go there with the "don't bring young kids to WDW" topic. Give me a break! Only people who don't have kids say that. My DD has been to WDW 4 times before she turned 3. It is very favorite place on earth (ours too.) and each trip we all had a ball. I don't regreat it for one second. DD #2 will be there when she is almost 7 months old (and she hasn't been born yet, 27 days untild due date!)

Anyway I agree that AK does need more atractions that young children can enjoy. Especially when you split up and one (or some) aduts and older kids ride the other rides and some stay with the younger kids. I do know that DD loved the bone yard and conversation station when she was 2. AK does have a few not to be missed atractions for families, but not nearly enough. There is some nice quiet places to explore and kids really like that too (good down time, nice and relaxing.) Ironically the baby care station at AK is one of the best!

I would have to say that MGM is even worse, a few good atractions (Playhouse Disney, Little Merrmaid and HISA playground, maybe Bueaty and the Beast, but that only has a few show times.) It really needs more, espcecailly just rides you can go on and not have to wait for a time (like a show.)

When you have kids MGM and Ak are half day parks, they need more so the whole family can enjoy it at the same time. I know some familes that only do MK and I feel they are missing alot by skipping the other parks, but Ak and MGM need a few "add on's" to round them out.

We have found that MGM is a good park for characters. There are only 3 rides that aren't "kid-friendly" at MGM - Star Tours, Rock n Roller Coaster and ToT, but my DD is tall enough for those except RnRC which I do by myself. AK is about 3/4 a day for us as we like to explore and find characters and the trails are great. I would like more family rides though. Shows are great and all, but it is the rides that get us to go to the parks. I hope Disney adds a family ride to AK soon after Everest is open. A nice dark ride would be best. There have been rumors of Flick's Fun Fair being cloned at AK, but I would much rather have something more unique or if they want to have a Flick's place then expand it to have more rides than whats at DCA.

Well, you did. Because we didn't bring it there, youre misreading out of context. Long story short, there's nothing wrong with bringing little kids who are ready for WDW. There are problems when you bring kids who arent ready. The line between the two varies with age.

For instance, Pixie's 2 y/o Nephew was ready for WDW based on a number of reasons, including how he was raised. Conversly i see plenty of 4, 5, and 6 year olds who arent ready the parks. My issue is that of why parents bring kids who aren't ready for the parks, because i see it every time i'm there.

About the young kids going to WDW, i just think that parents should know their children's signs of distress. Unfortunately, a lot of times this isnt the case which is very sad...

Now, about family friendly rides, there are a lack of them...maybe if there were more family friendly rides in MGM and AK, there would be less of a crowd in Magic Kingdom...

I think a great idea for a dark ride in AK would be a Rainforest theme ride...there are a lot of people that are fascinated with the rainforest, yet know so little about it...it would be neat to learn about the wildlife that live there and even the plant life. Since the rainforest harbors so many animals, it would be perfect! It would make an excellent boat attraction like POTC....and after the ride they could have a station to get a closer look at the animals (my fav. personally being poison dart frogs b/c of their brilliant colors)....

i also like the idea about an endangered species ride at AK...so many possibilities! :brick:

Then dont tell my mom or dad that. They will totally disagree with ya. They left my two year old butt home while they went to Disney without me and I was a very good kid. They just did not want all the hassle with the parent switch and stroller. Plus I went when I was 4 and remember it and my parents and I had a wonderful time!

Oh and do not knock the shows, you are missing a big point to a theme park without good shows, a HUGE part actually.

Gotta love the shows!!! I love Festival of the Lion King!!! Its great.

I am taking my 14 month old daughter to WDW.... and her grandparents...

That way when she is tired of it all, voiala,..... Grammy goes back to the hotel.....

About AK, I agree that a nice family ride would be nice... but as most anyone has pointed out.... any additional ride would be well-received.

ARGH...ok...once again...BACK TO DAK!

I completely agree that more "FAMILY" rides need to be built at DAK.

Here are some of my ideas.
Camp MinnieMickey:
1. A canoe ride down a river seeing animatronics of Mickey and the gang while they are "camping." Along the way you would see live deer, moose, and bears.

Africa: (I'd hold off for now because children can go on the safari)

Asia: (I'd hold off for now because KRR and EE will be there for the "thrill section" of the park)

Dinoland USA:
1. Destroy Chester/Hester's DinoRama!
2. Stick to the theming of "family friendly" dinosaurs and take a ride through a dinosaur breeding facility. (Make it seem like DAK is trying to make dinosaurs roam the earth once again). Teach people about dinosaurs (what kid doesn't like learning about dinosaurs?) along the route. When you exit, you could have an animatronic dinosaur that could interact with the people leaving. (NO NOT A T-REX...something "family friendly"...like...a realistic Lucky)

Australia:
1. Head out into the Outback and see live Kanga's, Eagles, Koalas, Tazmanian Devils, etc. (walking tour)
2. Theme a ride to the Rescuers Down Under (I liked the idea of flying on the eagle...and that would be a great tie-in). Bernard and Bianca need your help to save the little boy (name eludes me at the moment) from McCleach.

Granted, these are just rough ideas but things CAN be done...I also loved the idea of the "Living with the Land" style attraction focusing on animals. Maybe that could go in Africa and the "storyline" could focus on "The great circle of life" and how all things rely on other things to survive.

I like your Australia ideas, but your Dinoland idea doesn't work for me. Why? Because it's already been done. Perhaps you have visited the Discovery Center at Islands of Adventure's Jurassic Park "land"?

DOH...completely forgot about that (it's been a while since I've been there and it was only once). My bad...good catch Kyle.

How about a Triceratops Encounter? :lookaroun (jk btw)

Any way to do a "Stegasaurus" ride? Maybe use the technology of the free-roaming 4 legged animatronic that was "unveiled" on the Imagineering special...sorta like an elephant ride...but on the back of a large dinosaur? (What kid wouldn't love THAT???)

Good ideas.... I love the canoe idea it would feel like a harking back to the Davy Crocket canoes,... and I know we are hiding some out of commission canoes still on property.

One more thing to defend the shows, the have a high capacity so during show times there is a good chunk of people taken off the streets of the parks.

first of all-- i don't mind children at disney [hello!?! it's DISNEY... ofcourse there will be children] as much as i dislike... or should I say.. HATE parents who do not use discretion. It annoys me to no extent when parents have been warned out the wazoo that an attraction may be too intense for small children..... and what do-ya-know... their 7th month old cries bloody murder throughout the entire thing RUINING the experience for EVERYONE else! :brick: :brick: my worst experiences with this above listed problem happened in 1.) ITTBAB and 2.) sounds dangerous...

anyway, back on topic... wdwfreak- you had some good ideas.. i would just nix the jurassic park idea as you've already been told.. but other than that.. good ideas, and i ESPECIALLY like the camp minnie-mickey canoe idea... very neat.
