We'll have the AKL Savannah View w/bunk beds this Friday & Saturday nights. Then Sunday we switch to the Kilimanjaro Club ((cue the theme song from The Jeffersons)). This is our first go-round at AKL so I'll let you know when I get back. :D

It's been a few years but yes. We have two boys and they loved the place. The bunk beds were a huge hit with them. We thought the resort was pretty awesome, just check out the lobby and soak it in.

I don't know if they still do this but every night we got in from the parks my oldest son and I always went out back to the rock croppings and found a CM that had night vision goggles and my son was able to check out the animals in the dark, pretty cool. Restaurants are great, be sure to check them out. AKL is a great resort in our family's opinion.

We stayed in a bunk room at WL. My dd is 5' tall and had no problems in the bed. I don't think my husband who is 6'2" could have slept in one. I guess it depends on how tall you all are as to if you can fit.

We went over to AKL to look for hidden Mickey's one night. It was so much fun. I liked the look of the place but I like WL better. I think it would be cool to see the animals 24/7 though.

we did a bunk bed room at WL when our kids were 11 and 6 (one boy who was already getting tall and one girl) and we all loved it. it was nice for them to not have to share a queen bed giving them both a little space of their own. if i were traveling with young kids again i'd book that kind of room over a standard two queen bed room in a heartbeat.

In Oct 2006, we stayed at AKL in a bunk bed room. At the time, my daughter was a freshmen in college, and my son was a Jr. in high school. They are of average size. Obviously, they slept in the bunk beds, and my wife and I in the queen.

To this day, they prefer the bunk beds over any other sleeping arrangements they have experienced. Now, there is an obvious reason for this, but they have no complaints about the bunks. The person in the bottom bunk just may want to "watch their head", as the top bunk can sit kind of low for a tall person.

And regarding the resort, it was six months after that stay that I made AKL my home resort w/ DVC. So you could say I like it a lot.

FWIW -- We've stayed in the bunk room at both AKL and WL, as well as several resorts with the fold-out single bed like the Poly has.

The fold-out single bed is definitely smaller than the bunks. So, if you fit in the fold-out when you stayed at Poly in the past, you'll have no problem with the bunks. My DD is 5' 3" and was more comfortable in the bunk than the fold out single.

In answer to your other question, my family really liked the AKL, and we're going back to it next spring. I would recommend booking the savannah view, as it really is worth it to be able to wake up and watch the animals every day.

The bunk beds at WL I think are actually just about twin bed size...definately fit a 5'8 person...my children really like them and can't understand why more hotels don't share this feature....nice to have your own space...noone touching you and easier for seperate bedtimes for diverse ages with seperate reading lights....:king:
