It's a real tree. They wouldn't have a fake tree (or a cell phone tree) in the middle of the park like that were you can walk up to the trunk and examine it up close. You'd put it somewhere on the edges of the park so that you can't get near it. You also have to power it and be able to get to the equipment inside the fake trunk, all of which would make placing it in the middle of the park a terrible idea.

I'm not sure if that is real. It is perfectly shape and very large. I have seen them in real life where they grow and it is an odd example.
That tree would have to be 50 years or so to be that height which means it also should be producing seed cones which I have not seen on it.

Don't know about a cell tower but I also doubt it's real.

On the it's real side, the leaves/needles on the older branches have fallen off which is what is supposed to happen. Real or really good fake?

It is 100% real. I remember back in December of 1998 when they trimmed back much of the lower branches to install the "Christmas Tree". Which was basically a very bright, very plastic, totem pole-esque structure that surrounded the trunk. It only lasted one year.

The tree is real.

I wonder if Discovery Island will get new costumes once all the projects are complete. The current color scheme doesn't really jive with the new low-key, dark colors. I never really noticed until this photo update.

Great observation I hope so too.

Yes
Which, interestingly enough, also seems to be made to look like a Monkey Puzzle tree. Oh, WDI...

Not sure that's a WDI thing... We had one in S. FL city park that also looked like one of these trees... Iron ice thing is the associated building was clearly visible and "accessible" from inside this park. The tower was only "disguised" from a distance and even then it did not look like the surrounding trees...

We have them around campus at The University of Alabama, and they are usually designed to look like the oaks and pines around here. They're also shorter, and used for both cellular and wifi networking on campus. Pretty cool, and definitely not just a WDI thing, but that design is unusual because it sticks out and doesn't blend completely.
