According to Intercot...

Animal Kingdom will operate for all guests, August 6-19 -- 9:00 a.m. - 10:00 p.m.

Then, on the Aug 7th and 16th, there will be EMH evenings for Resort Guests, keeping the park open until 1am.

Wow.. too good to be true?

It wouldnt suprise me. I know that now Everest is open, they are going to try to extend normal operating hours in the future. Obviously some of the attractions wont be open.

I wonder if anything ELSE will be open in August... I know Nemo is set for November, but wouldnt it be a nice surprise to see both things running? Granted, no show would go till 1 in the morning (other then comedy warehouse in DD), but it could go till 7.

Sounds stupid actually. Everest will be good, but it won't make AK a park that you can spend that much time in. For some reason I don't think those hours from Intercot are accurate.

It would indeed be somewhat ironic if it stays open late -- to the previous poster, not a Nemo ride, a Nemo show...and I don't know if it is completely inaccurate - with Dinosaur, Primevil Whirl, Expedition Everest, It's A Bug's Life they have 4 major attractions that can remain open late into the evenings, while areas with animals can actually be blocked off. I think they expect EE to be a major attraction for awhile. I agree that it is a "halfday park", but as usual, Resort guests would use the evening hours to return to do the rides so the 1/2 day park thing doesn't really apply. I frequently use EMH at MK while not entering till after 8 spending the day in a different park.

I think there is another issue here, though. I agree that EE is not enough to make DAK feel like a true full day park. However, I think that extending the hours will bring in another crowd. We always hop to a park for the afternoon/evening as the end of the vacation comes. DAK doesn't have that luxury now. So, I think the park will still have a strong evening attendance because people will chose to go there instead of to other parks more. You now especially have the option of BB and DAK on one side of the resort that will easily fill a full day. This may draw a bit away from other parks, but redistribution is always good because it can be filled in with other guests in the future.

How is night lighting in the park, anyway? I don't think I've noticed any lighting anywhere in the park... have they added more recently?
The lighting is fantastic. There are some great night shots of the park on the main page. The park was had all its lighting since day one its just rarely used.

I believe that in August the rummered BK will be opening on the 1st therefore adding many more rides to be open late, they just are hiding the construction of it behind the trees in camp MM so shhhhh...... :lookaroun

But on a serious note, do u think they will add a night time closing show for the park now?

Agreed. The hours for June and July are out and even during the holiday period, the hours are 7pm with EMH nights on Tuesdays until 10pm. The latest times shown are 8pm with EMH until 11pm. The beginning of August usually starts the downswing of attendance, so it's doesn't make sense to increase the hours after the busy July 4 holiday.

Any hour that you get to be in the AK after the sun goes down is a gift from Disney. Take advantage of those gifts

I just checked the park hours for August on Disney's internal website and it has the park closing at 7:00 p.m., so with EMH, that keeps the park open until 10:00 p.m. That sounds more reasonable.

I say Animal Kingdom is quickly becoming a full day park. Maybe for the people who have annual passes and can go anytime they wish not so much, but for someone who goes every couple of years it definitely can be an all day affair...especially with Everest arriving..not to mention the New Nemo show...which despiste some skeptics out there..I am looking forward to that...

Why just August ? The summer crowds will be there from Mid July - not that I'm complaining, if these hours are true then I'll be able to take advantage of them !!
