That or some major sparks flying around off Everest.

Maybe there doing some steel work and you saw like welding sparks or something. Or maybe the Yeti AA exploded.

Wouldn't that be great....I hope the Yeti's fine though.

Why would Disney spend all that money on a theme park that can't stay open past sunset, and never become anything more than a half-day park? The fact that the "real" animal lands are at the north end of the park, and the "imaginary" animal lands are at the south end are enough of an indication for me that AK was planned to at least EVENTUALLY stay open past dark.

Okay, I have a lot to say. Disney's Animal Kindgom was built as a park that would work in the night just as well as the day. The Night Safari that they had is awesome... just wasn't advertised enough. No one told me about it until after they had it. Anyway, all the paths are lit, and lit very well, the lighting is no worse then World Showcase at Epcot or Frontierland in the MK, & every attraction in the park can stay open later minus the animal pathways (Pangani & Jungle Trek) & Rafiki's Planet Watch. Okay, and Flights of Wonder & Pochantas. But still, that's not a lot to close. Look at how well the Disney-MGM Studios does at night! And count the night attractions.

The Discovery River Basin was made to have a night time show. We're looking at a show more with fog, water, lasers, characters, and fire rather then fireworks. However, some low level fireworks could be used. Think of Fantasmic at Disneyland. The park is very well lit at night, and if you haven't seen the Tree of Life at night, you haven't seen the Tree of Life. It's spectacular!

Now that Everest is opening, let's go down the list of the attractions for nighttime use:

-Kilimanjaro Safaris
-It's Tough to be a Bug
-Festival of the Lion King
-Kali River Rapids (really fun at night too... it's lit, & if you've ever done it at night, you know what I mean.)
-Primieval Whirl
-Triceratop Spin
-Dinosaur
-The Carnival Games
-Character Greets
-Expedition: EVEREST
-A possible night time show

I think I've proven my point...

Just for comparison, let's look at a night at the Disney-MGM Studios...

-Great Movie Ride
-Sounds Dangerous
-Magic of Disney Animation
-Backlot Tour (Usually closes early though)
-Tower of Terror
-Rockin' Roller Coaster
-Fantasmic!
-Muppet-Vision 3-D
-One Man's Dream
-Star Tours
-Indiana Jones (Closes early as well)

I feel like I'm missing something, but we know that the new Stunt Show will close early (Well, we know it won't have many shows, and I'm willing to bet most of the shows will be in the day.) Voyage of the Little Mermaid could be added to that list if you really want to get technical, and Millionare could as well. Keep in mind that the Studios was staying open late long before the new stunt show, Rockin' Roller Coaster, or Millionare, and well, I'd say that these parks are about the same with night time offerings. Give AK a night time show and I think we're all set.

DLP uses specially developed `quiet` fireworks for its regular version of Fantasy in the Sky - since there are a lot of farms and hamlets north west of Disneyland Park the locals complained A LOT about the nightly noise of the bangs... and this in a formarly middle of the countryside location (guess thats the difference between Marne le Valle and Anaheim). Oh - and when French complain...well!!

Anyone who has seen this show knows the pyro `crackles` and `hisses` rather than `bangs` and `cracks` (technical terms... honest) and even then, its quieter than `quiet` pyro used in the US parks. And it is a relatively low level show. WDI has the means to incorporate some pyro into AK (maybe even not as much as DLP if the show is water based) but I`m sure they would need to do a lot of convincing the public and professional groups that it is `animal friendly`

BTW - does the water course round AK feed into any animal / fish areas? Just wondering about possible contamination from fallout / pyro / flame effects etc.

A nightly open AK has a lot of ptential, if advertized well. With the addition of Everest the range of attractions that could stay open is large enough to make it happen.

Night Safari's were only used during heavy attendance periods like Christmas and Easter.

They shoot off fireworks behind Dino_Rama for conventions.

Riding Kali at night is great. The flame effects at the Burn Zone and the fog give it like a eerie X-Files effect.

I do think there is boundless potential for nighttime activities, but it would have to be promoted to change people's minds about the "day park."

Wouldnt they have to clear a lot of obstacles (trees) around that cove "show area" in order to get room for people? Its not like the Epcot lagoon, that has mostly clear viewing all around. I almost prefer the established foliage to leveling the perimeter of the cove...

I think we are about 3 or 4 more attractions and at least 2 sit down restaurants from serious evening hours. Even with the late parade, it seems like the place is almost empty after 3:00. Another issue is the fact that there are no resorts connected to AK by monorail or boat. I for one am much more likely to return to a park at night if I know I will have quick transportation back to my resort.
I'd love to see the AK at night. I just don't think it's going to happen anytime soon.

I agree- Sit Down Resturaunts are a MUST for a late night park. How do they expect AK to be anything more than a half-day park without Table Service Resturaunts?? Hopefully, the new Resturaunt by Everest won't just be another fast food joint.

Sit Down resturaunts are a must... even one would do it... but the extra attractions aren't needed. You're going overboard.

AK *is* beautiful at night!

I did one of the family gatherings event dinners there two weeks ago and it was well after nightfall when we left dinner and walked back through the park to the exit. everything is all lit up and beautiful, its a shame most people don't get to see it!

A night show would be great if they could work it out.
I'm rooting for something with rafiki if it had to be hosted by a character.

i agree that i night show would be fantastic, and i've never personally seen DAK at night, with the lighting and stuff, so if anyone has any good pics, i'd love to see them
