Actually, Disney's whole point in building new parks is to make sure you don't go anywhere else. When WDW opened, it was just the MK. You could come to Orlando, go to WDW for a day or two, and then head on to your next destination. Then came EPCOT (now Epcot), and that meant that you would have to spend 3 or 4 days at WDW. Then along came MGM, and that added another day to your stay. At that point, if you only had a week for vacation, you were going to spend it it at WDW if you wanted to see all of it. Now there's AK, not to mention the waterparks and DTD! Disney has done a great job of monopolizing your vacation. And as far as that goes, I'm all for it. I could spend a month there and never get tired of it. I'll hit Universal, IOA, and BG on the next trip. Heck, you can make each one of THOSE a day trip! ( I have. ) Dogsrule has hit the nail on the head...Whenever a new park opens, it's not going to be jam packed full of rides like the rest. Parks take time to develop and grow. It's a neverending process. That's why there's always something new to see when I go.
For a really interesting look at WDW read Inside Disney by Eve Zibart. It's published by the same folks who do The Unofficial Guide to WDW, and it's a fascinating read.
At any rate, I really enjoy AK. I like the rides, and I enjoy the animals and shows as well. I find it to be a nice change from the other parks, and I'm looking forward to watching it grow in the coming years.
