AirTran Opinions?

I'm looking at Southwest flights for a certain day, and the best departure time for a nonstop flight is an AirTran flight. If you've used AirTran, how do you like it? Is it similar to Southwest? Do they board in groups, or can you pick your seat when you book? Are the seats about the same size?

Thanks!

I love this airline and am afraid what will happen when it totally becomes Southwest down the road. Its more formal than Southwest, though it is owned by them now. You can pick your seats when you book, and they are reasonable compared to Southwest and others. Their employees seem to be really happy working there, and its the typical board-by-row-numbers airline. They also seem to take off on time. Highly recommended.

We just switched to Southwest last year, and making 3 trips on Southwest between now and November, however Airtran I am told is terrific. Although bought by Southwest, everyone I have ever spoken to who flew Airtran, LOVED it.. They also offer some of the best rates going.

My brother-in-law flies AirTran very regularly, once or more per month for years. He loves them. When you get to the airport you can see if there's any upgrades to business class available. For not that much $$ you could end up in business class in a little nicer seat having free drinky-drinks. Can't beat that!

One Little Spark...
I used them a lot several years ago, and used them last year. I've never had a complaint (unlike Delta...which I normally fly, but hate)

This year I'm thinking about using AirTran again to get to MCO and back.

I love AirTran. I have never had a problem and have always been happy. You can pick your seats with a small fee added but I like being able to do that. You do pay for bags also. Hope they keep up the quality when it changes to Southwest.

I have questions about Airtran......

I booked through Southwest, but they have us connecting in Atlanta and flying from there into Orlando on Airtran. Then on Airtran back to Atlanta when coming home. My questions are: Since I cannot choose my seats on Airtran (Not even pay extra for it) and there are three of us, how likely will it be that we can negotiate seats together? Shouldn't the computer assigning seats see that three people have a reservation together and seat them together? Also, I got the Early Bird Check in from Southwest, so how does that work after the layover and the departure flight from Orlando that have us on Airtran? Will they board us the same as SW?

I'm not sure why you can't choose your AirTran seats -- you should probably call Southwest and ask those questions and get your AirTran seat assignments...

I called SW. They said that my seats will be assigned at the gate and that eventually they will be doing away with seat assignments on Airtran. I am just afraid that since I booked through SW and cannot choose my seats that they will separate us on the plane.

Ugh. Really? I booked an Air Tran MDW-MCO flight through SW the other day and I was wondering about this. I would not mind being split up, but my son (11) has Asperger's Syndrome and while he's quiet on the plane, I don't know what he would be like not sitting by one of us. I think I just might rebook us on a SW flight. We are on one returning, anyway.

We have flown airtran on our last 14 trips to Disney and will use them again in June. We like them alot as you can tell. Fares are reasonably priced and services is much better then SW in my opinion. Best part is you have assign seats too so no worries about getting there early to get in line and even though they charge for baggage I have still found AirTran to be cheaper then SW.
