AirTran new $15 baggage charge, that starts today.

I have a question for anyone that is leaving WDW today, or in the next few days who booked their flight BEFORE Nov 12th and is using ME.

AirTran started charging $15 a bag today for anyone who booked after November 12, 2008. I booked my flight well before that. But I want I want to know is, how will ME know this? Is there anything I have to do before hand?

oil prices are plummeting and there are airlines introducing NEW surcharges? Ridiculous. They should be repealing these fees.

Their excuse for adding charges more than likely is to recap the losses from having to pay so much for the fuel when it went thru the roof, but then I could be wrong.

You imply that there is logic in airline pricing ISTCNavigator57. It defy's logic to think that at any given time on any given flight that if you polled half the passengers, most paid different prices for the same seats.

I, too, purchased our tickets well in advance of the cut off date, April. I don't know what the answer is and we're using ME so I figured that I would make an extra copy of my receipt for the purchase of the tickets and have that for ME resort check-in's use. I would imagine there is some kind of coding or date attached to our tickets that would indicate the charge or not. We'll see when we leave WDW on the 18th to return home. I also plan to have an extra copy of the receipt, which has purchase date, with me for use when leaving for WDW on the 13th. 8 days!!!!

Returned from Disney using resort check-in on Nov.29. We flew United and booked before they instituted the baggage fee in June. We merely told them that we booked prior to the fee and that was that. I assume when they checked us in that the computer confirmed we owed nothing for baggage.

From the AirTran website:
Effective December 5, 2008, for all reservations booked on or after November 12, 2008, the charge for the first checked bag will be $15. For reservations booked prior to this date, for each fare-paying customer, AirTran Airways will allow one (1) checked bag free of charge, with size and weight limitations (see baggage allowance details below).

So as long as you didn't book after Dec 5 then you'll be fine. We flew back with 6 bags for 4 people, I paid the $10 each additional bag over the phone like the Magical Express packet, that they leave under your door, suggested. When we checked out with ME, they just asked me when did you book, I said July they said ok and that was it. I don't think they can really track it down and I even think one of our bags was slightly overweight and they said nothing.
