Airtran Fare Sale

I wanted to pass along some good airfare prices I have been finding. Airtran has some really good rates right now. I believe you need to book by March 6. The sale includes dates for this summer. I found other airlines are also matching the fares. I have found great rates out of Milwaukee to Orlando and Tampa. Happy hunting and hope this helps :sohappy:

We have flown both Airtran and NW. NW was a nightmare and Airtran was fabulous!!! They took off a few mins early, got us to MCO early, offered refills on the plane and extra pretzels! They were kind, courteous and did everything they could to make us comfortable. I would highly recommend them to anyone flying. They have fantastic fares and clean planes. Sometimes it pays off to fly a smaller airline.

I'm not a fan of Northwest, either! They have some of the worst customer service I've ever seen. And that's saying something since my mom worked for US Airways for 15 years, and whenever we paid for a flight, we NEVER flew USAirways!!

I am planning on going in December (my sister just went in february and got great rates from dayton-to mco (we live in cincinnati so a short distance) -$183. Any of you well-versed Air tran know how early you can book a flight. I just tried to look up flights for December (I know it's early but it's Disney and I get excited) and they aren't listed yet. You can PM me if you prefer. THanks ahead of time. Any Cincinnati or Dayton people with Northwest experience can PM me too with flight help. I'm also flying with a 2 year old (will almost be 3 -anyone know if anyone offers discount flights for little ones)??

I flew to Minneapolis in 2004 on Northwest and was able to get a child fare through Orbitz for my then 18 mo old. I had to call NW at one point, and they said they didn't offer child fares, but it sure was available online! We were able to get his seat for about half price. So, you may want to try orbitz, travelocity, expedia, etc. and see if you can find a child seat deal.

Southwest also says they offer child fares, but you have to call them, they aren't available online. If there's a sale, the online price may be cheaper than the child fare anyway.

Yeah, I know this is my second mention of SW - I just like them! We live 15 min away from a decent airport with both major (USAirways, Delta, United, NW, Continental) and discount providers (Skybus and Allegiant), but we drive over an hour to RDU just to get SW. The last time we went to FL in 2006 we got tickets for $99 r/t.

It is also worth looking at Spirit Airlines (if they fly from your area). We purchased flights in December for January for $16 per person round trip. (YES, that is SIXTEEN DOLLARS). For the five of us, with taxes and fees, it was something like $184. It was a non-stop flight from Detroit on a very clean, large, new-looking plane. There were limits on the number of bags you could take on for free (one carry on + one personal item) and checked bags were an additional $10 ($5 if you pre-bought the bag ticket). And ALL the food, drinks (even coffee) were $$. But, hey, for a $16 ticket, I'll pay for my drink.

They seem to run lots of 24 or 48 hour sales with limited dates... but if you can book a trip on a whim, it can work. We booked on December 18th and travelled on January 4th for 7 days (5 in the park - 2 travelling). I have NEVER before gone with so little planning time, but it was great! :)

I haven't flown airtran for a while but everytime I have flown has been fine. For anyone between the ages of 18-22, you should look into the Airtran U program. It's great for the last minute trips. You can fly nearly anywhere Airtran flies for 69$ one way, but you have to fly standby and can't make reservations, have to just show up on the day you want to go somewhere and get on a flight. I used the program 4 or 5 times back when I was that age and it's pretty awesome, but back when it first started I think flights were 30$'s each way instead of 70.

Princess #1 looked into that, but standby does not mean you will get a flight that day or any day. Since she has a tight schedule she needed a guaranteed seat, but for $79 from Tampa to home its not that much anyway. Each of her flights is sold out so there will be no standby unless somebody cancels and she got to pick her seat.

Airtran must be good. As numerous billboards here in the Indy area can attest, Peyton Manning uses Airtran. Why would a rich guy like hime fly Airtrain if they weren't fantastic? :lookaroun

Seriously, Airtran is incredibly cheap and they provide service on par with other airlines (i.e. none). I just pray that I never run across an article where I learn they are skimping on safety details.

We flew Airtran DFW to MCO last Sept. Granted, it was the 6:35AM flight so there wasn't really time for delays to build up or for the plane to get dirty, but we thought it was great--AND there were only about 10 other people on the plane. So, we practically had a private plane. (those tix were $54, plus taxes, etc.)

On the way back, we flew AA. It was in the evening, and much more crowded. Nice thing about AA was the in-flight movie. Made the time go by much faster--which is nice for an "I'm-worn-out-and-just-want-to-get-home" flight.

I would have no problem flying Airtran again. In fact, I'm hoping for another $54 sale so that I can convince my wife to go to WDW again this year...
