After the Parks close...

I was wondering if anybody had any interesting stories of things that they do after the parks close. I know most people go to Downtown Disney or something like that, but I was looking for something a little different.

I was a CP in spring and most kids just went to bars every night, but me and a girl I met did some interesting things. For example: hanging out at the beaches of the Polynesian and Floridian (sometimes catching the water parade), going on the roof of the Contemporary, getting a drink at different resort bars (Boardwalk was my favorite), etc.

Does anyone have any favorite spots that they like to go to after hours? Any that most people would normally not notice?

Well, usually when we're at Riverside, and if it's not an EMH night or anything like that, we check out one of (we think anyways) best kept secrets of any of the resorts. That would be Bob, at the Riverside bar, doing his very crowd-interacting piano playing show, some of the best entertainment money can't buy, (unless your drinking, then you are paying, and that makes it even more fun!!) As Bob would say, "Nobody has more fun then us!" He's probably right. Seriously, it's a can't miss.

Been to POR many times and this past trip was the first time we caught his act. He is an absolute riot. We did alot of laughing.....your right...it's a can't miss.

I had never heard of Bob until I came to this board.. and that's one of the reasons this place is awesome.

I've seen Bob Jackson perform twice. Once in 2001, I was only 16 so I didn't "get" his act but during my recent trip this year, I'm 21 and LOVED IT! It's great especially when you get involved with the activities that he asks the crowd to do .

One question the college program, How would you get to the Boardwalk and back from your apartment? Do they have buses take you there for you since they know that is a hot spot?

I have a few, but some depend on the time of year, and where I am staying...

- When staying at FW, going for a spin in a golf cart - usually with a small cigar if it's mosquito season
- Again, at FW, having a cocktail at Crockett's
- Light workouts - since theme park walking has an over-abundance of short strides (queues, crowds), I like to stretch my legs at the end of the day. I often break out out my in-line skates and hit a quiet stretch (parking lot, FW loops). Beach v-ball, if it isn't too late, is a favourite (but I usually play 3 nights a week, so it's part of my routine).
- From late fall to late spring, going somewhere to catch a hockey game, especially if I know that I can find somewhere that can get a Leafs game (usually very tough, unless they are playing locally)
- Monorailin' - where we hit the rails and hit the monorail hotels for shopping, gaming, and the like
- Boardwalk - this can be a fun stroll, and there's lots to do - great for walking off the Seafood buffet had over at Yacht Club
- DTD - 'nuff said
- City Walk - I know, I know - evil, evil, evil...but's it's fun.
- Strolling around WL after dinner at Whispering Canyon, esp. outside

A couple of accessories can really help:
- iPod - riding the monorails while listening to cool tracks can feel very surreal. Zooming around Epcot, or through the CR, while listening to tracks like movie soundtracks or trance music is pretty slick. Listening to rock while booting around on a golf cart is fun too. Just sitting on a beach listening to your favourite type of music is a great way to unwind.

Agreed! This really does put a whole new spin on the atmosphere, in a good way too.

OOH! when I was 17 and I went to WDW with some girlfriends for our high school graduation trip... after the parks closed we would sit by the pool (at the Caribbean Beach) and play cards... one night some guys our age walked by and we started a game! it was great fun. People tend to be very friendly on vacation.

The sushi bar at Swan's (Kimono's?) also has karaoke every night. If you don't mind the corniness of karaoke (and I don't) it's a hoot. The only disadvantage is the occasionaly overabundance of Broadway Babies who take any public singing experience WAY too seriously.

someone mentioned Bob's at PO-R, which is a nice night. More predicatable, but also a lot of fun, is Jellyroll's over at the Boardwalk.

Bustin' out the 'smore kit and watching movies outside at Fort Wilderness (especially in the earlier Spring and later fall, when it's cool but not cold, and bug issues are minimized). I know the parks are still open at the time, but it's still a nice respite.

In regards to the College Program....

There are buses that take you to various spots around property, but they are only for work-related travel. I suppose you can take the bus that people who work at Boardwalk take, but I don't have much experience with the buses. Getting back and forth is somewhat of a hassle, and you have to plan to catch the bus an hour before you want to get somewhere. I brought my car with me, and I HIGHLY recommend it. Also, half the fun of the CP was getting in the car after hours and hotel hopping, exporing, etc. You may have an issue with hotel guards asking you questions late at night, but if you're smooth you can get in anywhere.

Yes, you can go on the Contemporary rooftop. The view is amazing, either day or night. You can see all of MK and MK resort area, Spaceship Earth, Wilderness Lodge, Everest, Tower, etc. Bring a camera with a good zoom lens. Also, it is pretty cool to actually look DOWN on a moving monorail.

Most people go up to the California Grill to catch the view...you can walk outside from there. I found it a problem to get up there without a reservation, unless its midday before the crowds hit. My advice is to take the elevator to the highest floor you can, then go to the end of the hallways and take the stairs the rest of the way. BUT.... be sure to put a rock or something in the door so it doesn't shut behind you, otherwise your walking the entire way down.

Thanks for the karoake tip at the Swan, I would have never thought about that. I like closing down Epcot then exiting out the International Gateway and just enjoying the Epcot resort area, so this will be something new to try.
