Hello everyone

I'm heading back to FL in a few weeks and hoping to borrow an aircraft and take some more aerial shots over WDW, Kissimmee and anywhere else I can get to in the time available. If anybody has any requests for what they'd like to see from an unusual angle let me know and I'll add them to the list...

There are many park photos, but how about some shots of the various resorts and their features?

Good idea, I got a couple last time out - POR, BW, Swan/Dolphin and GF from memory plus the then-under-construction animation resort - any others that might have interesting features?

Could do worse than swing near the south west corner of DAK....

Would this be the mythical Avatar land?!

Yes indeed.

If you want developments you could do worse than head up to Uni. Cabana Bay phase two, Potter phase two and a few developments around Jurassic Park too.

Yeah, I'll probably try and spend a few minutes over Universal - the airspace isn't too onerous and last time I was there the light was a bit rubbish, so I'll have another go. I'll see what I can find in AK too!

Nice shots, yours?

I am naive on this subject, does Disney have some type of agreement with the state regarding planes or helicopters over the resort? It just seems there would be a ton of tourist companies selling flights over if not. I have never seen a lot of air traffic over the parks. Whats the story?

Cool pic BTW :)

If the zealot skywriter can get away with it for so many years then I imagine it is not a big deal. Besides...would you rather pay a $100+ dollars to fly over it or the same amount to be in it? That would be my guess as to why sky tourism does not previal.

Good points, I was just wondering. I would not want to see it even for free, I am nerdy enough to think there is no "behind" the scenes at WDW, it's all real! :)

Someone will correct me about no fly zones, but for dubious reasons there is a 3000ft base no fly zone for a certain distance from the MK and Epcot.

Or something.

From two of out resident pilots...

Do you have to get special clearance to fly over "Disney airspace" or is that a myth?

Mostly myth. Anyone can fly over as long as they're above 3000'. Those of us doing work below that altitude have to get waivers from the government to do it (I suspect some people have permanent or long-term waivers). Law enforcement/Dept of defense and medical emergency flights are an exception, they can go in any time.

Those restrictions technically don't even cover most of Animal Kingdom, Hollywood Studios, the All Star resorts, or Pop Century/AOA.

I've been given clearance to fly through below 3,000, but they always say don't loiter. Get through and get through fast is basically what ATC has always told me.

The comments from Scuttle and Photoflught above are spot on. There is a restricted area centred roughly on Seven Seas Lagoon up to 3000ft, you can fly through with ATC clearance but no loitering. The area covers MK and most of Epcot, I'll see if I can find a good map and post it. The restricted area was put in place after 9/11 and has never been removed.

As for paying to go above it, I'm a pilot and enjoy taking aerial shots when I can so thought I'd take a couple of hours out of the holiday and see what I could get from above WDW - it's a different perspective!

Here's the aviation map of the area (you can view these online at www.skyvector.com). As you can see the area covers well north of MK, and down to Buena Vista Drive so DHS isn't covered but Epcot is. AK is in the clear as is DTD.
